Singapore woman calls the police after man "purposely came close to her face" and laughed near Little India MRT station

SINGAPORE: A woman has spoken out about a distressing incident outside Little India MRT station last Saturday (7 June), which left her shaken and deeply traumatised.
The incident reportedly occurred around 4pm near Exit E of the station. Speaking to Stomp, the woman described being approached by a man. According to her account, he came uncomfortably close and appeared to make an attempt to touch or kiss her face before bursting into laughter with a friend who was nearby.
She said, 'He and his friend started to laugh loudly when I looked very scared. I am still very traumatised by it as his reaction showed that he did this on purpose.'
The woman said she immediately called the police following the incident.
'He was laughing until I got out my camera to take a picture of him,' she added, 'He started getting nervous and that was when he started to apologise.'

The woman told the citizen journalism portal, 'I just wish to warn females and anyone else about this guy as from my understanding is that he went back to the same back corner of the street to probably pull this sick stunt on another victim.'
Stomp has reported that there is currently no ongoing police investigation into the matter.

Woman accused of causing husband's death gets new charge of obstructing justice for washing, hiding knife
SINGAPORE: A woman said to have caused the death of her husband during a scuffle in 2023 was handed a fresh charge of obstructing the course of justice on Friday (Jun 13). Baniyah Shap, 52, is said to have intended to obstruct the course of justice by washing and hiding a silver foldable knife that was used in a fight which resulted in the death of 62-year-old Mohamed Ali Saaban. She stands accused of causing Mr Mohamed Ali's death through a negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide, after allegedly giving him a puncture wound with a silver foldable knife during the scuffle. The alleged scuffle took place around 11.52pm on Dec 11, 2023, at the void deck of Block 631 Ang Mo Kio Ave. Baniyah then allegedly washed and hid the knife in a unit on the same block after that. Baniyah was charged shortly after the incident, and was also handed a count of possessing the silver foldable knife with an approximately 6.5cm blade at the time of the scuffle. She was then remanded for psychiatric assessment after she was observed to behave erratically. Apart from the charges arising from the death of her husband, Baniyah faces numerous others, including providing internet banking access information details to others to effect transactions without authorisation. Baniyah indicated that she intended to plead guilty, but court records did not state which charges she would be admitting to. The prosecution will file its court documents by the end of June, with the mitigation plea from Baniyah to be filed later. According to a hearing list, Baniyah is represented by the Public Defender's Office. Currently on remand, Baniyah is expected to plead guilty on Jul 4.

Ryde temporarily suspends 5-star driver who left sick passenger stranded for over 10 hours
SINGAPORE: A Ryde customer was left stranded after a driver who accepted his booking became uncontactable and remained stationary for more than 10 hours, raising questions about the ride-hailing platform's cancellation policy. The incident, which occurred on the night of May 24, was shared with Stomp by a frustrated passenger named Kenneth. According to Kenneth, the ordeal began at 11:15pm when he booked a ride through Ryde. While a driver accepted his request, the vehicle did not move from its location and the driver could not be reached. 'I waited for a driver who accepted my request that remained stationary and uncontactable for over 10 hours, from 11.15pm till 9.14am the next day,' Kenneth told Stomp . Unable to cancel and rebook the ride without incurring a $6.50 cancellation fee, Kenneth said he was effectively left in limbo. 'I ended up having to wait forever,' he said, 'I could not go home to take my medication when I was already feeling sick, having just been discharged from Changi General Hospital.' He also expressed frustration over Ryde's cancellation policy: 'Ryde should review it. Why punish your customer? If we cancel after three minutes, it must be for a genuine reason.' In response to queries from Stomp , a Ryde spokesperson said the company had launched an internal review following Kenneth's report. 'We take all feedback seriously and have conducted a thorough internal review,' said the spokesperson, who described the incident as an isolated case involving a single trip. The company confirmed that Kenneth's account had no history of issues. According to Ryde, the driver in question holds a consistent five-star rating and has no record of past violations. However, the spokesperson added that the driver has been 'temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure pending further investigation.' 85-year-old woman dies in hospital after getting struck by ComfortDelGro taxi in Geylang
Photo: Comfort DelGro SINGAPORE: An 85-year-old woman has succumbed to her injuries and passed away after she was hit by a taxi while crossing the road in Geylang on Tuesday morning. The police said they were alerted to the accident at about 10.35am on June 10. The collision, which involved a taxi and a pedestrian, occurred along Lorong 1 Geylang towards Upper Boon Keng Road. The elderly woman was found unconscious at the scene and was taken to hospital, where she later passed on. In a statement, the police confirmed that a 68-year-old male taxi driver has been arrested for careless driving causing death. According to a report by Shin Min Daily News, the woman was on her way home, after finishing her breakfast at a nearby coffee shop, when she was struck by the vehicle. A hawker selling fried dough sticks told the Chinese daily that the woman was a familiar face in the neighbourhood and a regular at the coffee shop. 'She was eating wanton noodles alone,' the hawker said. 'An uncle told me later that he had reminded the old woman to pay attention to safety when she was crossing the road.' A spokesperson for ComfortDelGro said: 'We are profoundly saddened by this accident and our heartfelt condolences go out to the family of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time.' The company added that it is fully cooperating with the police in their investigations and will provide all necessary assistance. Police investigations are ongoing.
