Apple's AI-powered Siri has now become an awaited upgrade for iPhone users. While the promises were delayed due to rushed decisions and management constraints, Apple has confirmed to roll out the expected features in the coming years. However, no set timeline was provided, leaving customers disappointed. Now, the company is again fast-tracking the iOS 19 launch with expected AI enhancements. Several reports suggest that Apple is rigorously working to fix Siri, and it might have found a way to integrate AI for smart functions. Additionally, the iOS 19 update is expected to be the first step of slowly bringing AI-powered capabilities to iPhone's popular voice assistant, Siri. Know what the plans are to fix Siri's AI functionalities.

During the iOS 18 introduction, the AI-powered Siri preview was rushed even though the voice assistant was not ready or functional. A Bloomberg report further highlighted that the Siri team faced several challenges and engineering problems in integrating Apple Intelligence, causing the delay in a stable rollout.
Reportedly, the iOS 18 version of Siri has two systems, one that manages basic commands and the other that is designed to handle complex commands. However, combining these two systems came with several challenges, and the system encountered several bugs along the way. Later, Apple software SVP Craig Federighi acknowledged that none of the promised features are working.

Now, Apple is focused on improving and bringing Siri's AI capabilities with iOS 19. Firstly, Apple's AI and Siri team has undergone major leadership changes. Reportedly, Vision Pro's chief, Mike Rockwell, is looking after the Siri department. It is also rumoured that several engineers from the Vision Pro software group are working on Siri enhancements.

To develop promised Siri features such as on-screen awareness, personal context, and cross-app actions, Apple has developed a new Siri architecture from scratch. This new architecture may revamp how Siri functions, but in a smarter way. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman also suggested that the tech giant could introduce this new architecture at the upcoming WWDC 2025 with the iOS 19 update. However, the official rollout is not expected till iOS 19.4 in spring 2026.
Now, the WWDC 2025 is just two weeks away, which means we will be certain if Apple has made any progress on improving Apple Intelligence or Siri.

We Might Finally Know How The iPhone 17 Air Model Will Be Thin And Light

Last Updated: iPhone 17 Air is going to be the next sleek device in the market and Apple seems to be planning something big for it. iPhone 17 Air could be the next premium model this year to feature a sleek and lightweight design. Samsung has taken the first honours for doing that with the Galaxy S25 Edge but Apple has got people excited in a whole different way. The iPhone 17 Air will sit in a unique position in the series lineup later this year and new details keep coming out that shows what the company might be planning for the new device, how to handle its size and what is the best way to fit the ideal battery pack inside. iPhone 17 Air Battery Tech Revealed Earlier leaks suggested the iPhone 17 Air will come with a 2,800mAh battery which will help the device to weigh around 145 grams and get 5.5mm thickness. However, new details hint at a different plan which in some ways is better than the earlier reports. Tipster Majin Bu is back in the news again, and this time he talks about Apple using the silicon-carbon battery tech to offer a bigger unit on the iPhone 17 Air without reducing its size or making the device thick. This suggests the Air model will come with a bigger unit than the supposed 2,800mAh battery. We really hope the company also brings faster charging speeds for the new model. But along with being a sleek device, Bu claims Apple will make sure the iPhone 17 Air will be durable thanks to its use of the 7000 series aluminium alloy for the frame which will give it a lighter touch compared to the iPhone 16 Pro titanium frame. Bu was also on hand to share the supposed bend test video of the iPhone 17 Air model and the test video suggests the iPhone 17 Air has been built using solid materials which means the model is able to stay in shape despite the person putting strong effort to try and bend the device. Global smartphone sales to grow just 0.6% this year as tariff threats loom: IDC

International Data Corporation (IDC) has cut down its global smartphone shipment growth forecast to 0.6% from 2.3% citing high uncertainty, tariff volatility and macro-economic challenges like inflation and unemployment across various regions. IDC further predicts that growth will remain in the low single digits throughout the forecast period and a five year (2024-2029) compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.4% owing to increasing smartphone penetration, lengthening refresh cycles, and cannibalization from used smartphones. Speaking about the impact of US President Donald Trump's so called reciprocal tariffs on the smartphone industry, Nabila Popal, senior research director at IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, said, 'Since April 2nd, the smartphone industry has faced a whirlwind of uncertainty. While current exemptions on smartphones have offered temporary relief, the looming possibility of broader tariffs presents a serious risk,' 'Smartphone vendors — particularly those shipping to the US — must now navigate complex geopolitics alongside ongoing supply chain diversification efforts. Despite these headwinds, India and Vietnam are expected to remain the key alternatives to China for smartphone production. However, additional tariffs of 20-30% on US bound smartphones could post a serious downside risk to the current U.S. market outlook.' Popal added. Amid the rising trade tensions between US and China, Apple had planned to increase its reliance on India by doubling down on its iPhone manufacturing in the country and producing all the US bound iPhones this year in India. However, earlier this month, President Trump toldApple CEO Tim Cook that he doesn't want Apple to make iPhones in India and any iPhones not made in the US would be subject to a 25% tariff. However, US and China are still expected to have a modest growth of 0.6% in smartphone shipments this year. China's smartphone market is forecast to grow 3% YoY driven by government subsidies on Android devices. Meanwhile, Apple could be the biggest loser of the geopolitical tensions with a 1.9% decline in 2025 amid ongoing competition frm Huawei and overall economic slowdown.

iPhone exports to US trump last year numbers by 76%

Apple 's vendors shipped 2.9 million iPhones to the United States from India in April, according to market research firm Omdia, a 76% surge year-on-year, as the American tech firm persisted with its plan to meet domestic demand from the South Asian nation despite President Donald Trump's mounting pressure to switch to manufacturing locally. Similar numbers are expected in May, following the company's move to shift production out of China to reduce its overreliance on a single production base. In April, China suffered a commensurate 76% fall in iPhone exports to the US, at 900,000 units, from 3.7 million a year ago, Omdia said. Market tracker Counterpoint Research said its initial estimates peg iPhone exports from India to the US in April to be around 2.9-3 million. The April numbers were, however, lower than in March, when the Cupertino-based company raced to meet the April 2 deadline when the US imposed steep retaliatory tariffs on countries with which it had a trade deficit, with China the hardest hit. Industry executives said that Apple's shift toward India was accelerating and that the lower export volume in April was in line with the weak shipments usually seen in the April-June period, ahead of the launch of new models in the September quarter. Tariff Threat Apple has to contend with President Trump's threat this week of imposing a 25% tariff on iPhones sold in the US that are not made locally. However, producing iPhones in the US is likely to increase sticker prices substantially, with some experts estimating the Pro models to cost well over $3,000 apiece, from $1,119 now, on account of higher labour cost and complex logistics in sourcing the necessary components. 'In terms of profitability, it's way better for Apple to take the hit of a 25% tariff on iPhones sold in the US market than to move iPhone assembly lines back to the US,' said Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple analyst at TF Securities, Hong Kong. Live Events CAPACITY EXPANSION Last week, Apple's manufacturing partner Foxconn (Hon Hai) announced a fresh $1.5 billion investment in expanding its Chennai facility in a bid to strengthen capacity. The manufacturer has also constructed a new facility in Karnataka which will start shipping iPhones from June. Similarly, Tata Electronics, the company's second largest vendor for making iPhones in India, is expanding capacity at its Hosur facility for both enclosures and full-scale iPhone assembly. It has also acquired the majority stake in Pegatron's facility, which is Apple's third supplier in India. Some say India's manufacturing capacity is unlikely to scale up fast enough to fully meet the US demand for Apple. According to Omdia, the US market requires about 20 million iPhones per quarter, but India is expected to meet only about 80% of that demand by 2026. PARTIAL SHIFT LIKELY In the first quarter of 2025, India accounted for 21% of global iPhone shipments, with projections suggesting an increase in its share to 25-26% by the end of the year. The constraint India faces is not technical, but that of scale, as per analysts. With Apple now making even the high-end Pro and Pro Max models in India, much of the workforce training is complete, said Omdia. 'A full transition of US-bound iPhone production to India within a year remains unlikely. A partial shift is more feasible, though it still requires substantial investment in infrastructure and continued reliance on China for key components,' said Sanyam Chaurasia, analyst at Canalys (now part of Omdia). Apple is navigating a complex balancing act among its three most critical markets — China, US and India – not just as customer bases, but as an integral part of its global supply and production network, experts said. 'China remains deeply entrenched in Apple's manufacturing ecosystem, home to over 200 key suppliers. Shifting assembly to the US is not a logical move. It would mean attempting to relocate a tightly interwoven supply chain,' said Chaurasia. Meanwhile, India has rapidly evolved from a secondary hub to a central pillar of global tech manufacturing, underscored by the sharp increase in iPhone exports from India, he said.
