Egypt's FM, Qatari Counterpart Discuss Bilateral Ties, Gaza Developments in Phone Call

Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, Badr Abdel Aaty, held a telephone conversation on Monday with H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar.
During the call, the two top diplomats reviewed the state of bilateral relations between their countries. Dr. Abdel Aaty praised the positive momentum in Egyptian-Qatari ties, highlighting the strong bonds and shared interests that unite Cairo and Doha in support of their peoples.
The conversation also focused on the latest developments in the Gaza Strip. The ministers exchanged views on the ongoing situation and discussed joint efforts, in coordination with the United States, to resume the ceasefire, ensure the release of hostages and detainees, and guarantee the urgent and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Moreover, the two officials explored the next steps in implementing the Arab-Islamic plan for early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza. They also addressed preparations for the upcoming Cairo International Conference on Reconstruction, which is being organized in partnership with the Palestinian government and the United Nations.
Both sides welcomed the recent announcement of the release of American detainee Aidan Alexander, describing it as an encouraging step toward reviving negotiations and giving momentum to the mediation efforts led by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States.
Also, the ministers emphasized that such developments are vital to achieving a comprehensive, just, and sustainable peace in the region.

The strategy includes structural reforms, setting specific objectives, incentive-driven fiscal policies and open trade policies. It also focuses on encouraging the private sector and continuing digital transformation as fundamental pillars for development. Investors are encouraged by simplifying and streamlining investment-related procedures and approvals, facilitating licensing procedures through the launch of a unified platform that offers electronic licensing services, and reducing non-tax financial burdens on investors and companies, according to a statement by the presidential spokesperson. The meeting also addressed the progress of a project to construct an Unclean Dry Bulk terminal at Abu Qir Seaport in Alexandria, as part of efforts to transform Egypt into a global hub for transportation, logistics, and transit trade. A study was also reviewed on establishing a logistics terminal for receiving and handling raw iron and billets in Adabiya, Suez, as part of efforts to transform Egypt into a global hub for the iron and steel industry. The meeting also touched on the work of The Sovereign Fund of Egypt for Investment and Development, including the operational and legislative frameworks for maximizing the value of the Fund's affiliate companies, as well as efforts to list and monitor state-owned enterprises to ensure increased investment value and internal returns from these companies. President El-Sisi gave directives to continue efforts to maximize returns from state assets and generate added value for the Egyptian economy through their effective management by innovative strategies and partnerships with the private sector. The meeting also addressed increasing Egyptian exports, including the development of non-petroleum exports. The meeting reviewed the contribution of Egyptian exports to the Egyptian economy from 2003 to 2024, as well as export targets, which include access to new export sectors, efforts to increase the competitiveness and attractiveness of Egyptian products in global markets, and efforts to invest in export-supporting infrastructure. The meeting also addressed the launch of the National Economic Development Narrative and its various axes, which include policies supporting the private sector to be the main driver of achieving growth and employment, creating an economy that focuses on manufacturing and exports, achieving structural development for the Egyptian economy, implementing the necessary structural reforms to boost the economy, enhancing macroeconomic and financial stability, promoting foreign direct investment, and enhancing industrial development. Haleon captures over 20% market share in Egypt, locally manufactures 90% of product portfolio
Haleon, the global consumer health leader, has reinforced its footprint in Egypt following its demerger from GSK in July 2022. The company now holds over 20% of Egypt's consumer health market and manufactures approximately 90% of its flagship brands locally, according to Asif Alavi, General Manager for North Africa at Haleon. Speaking to Daily News Egypt, Alavi said that local production covers trusted household names such as Sensodyne, Parodontax, Panadol, Otrivin, and Voltaren Emulgel, underscoring Haleon's commitment to supply chain resilience and economic contribution through technology transfer and export capabilities. Egypt serves as a key regional base for exports to the Maghreb, Gulf countries, and Saudi Arabia. Alavi emphasized that local manufacturing has helped shield the company from global economic volatility, including inflation, currency fluctuations, and supply chain disruptions. 'Our strategy has significantly minimized exposure to global shocks, enabling us to maintain stability and accessibility in the Egyptian market,' he noted. Globally, Haleon is advancing its innovation pipeline, including a £130m investment in a new Global Oral Health Innovation Centre in Weybridge, UK, slated to open in 2027. The facility will support Haleon's category leadership in oral health and accelerate R&D for key brands like Sensodyne, which Alavi described as resilient due to its therapeutic value and strong dentist recommendations—even during economic downturns. Recognizing the price sensitivity in emerging markets, Haleon has adopted a multi-format, tiered pricing strategy to ensure broad accessibility. Egypt Recovers a New Batch of Stolen Artifacts From France
As part of ongoing national efforts to safeguard Egypt's heritage and ancient legacy and in line with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives to reclaim smuggled and stolen antiquities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has handed over a remarkable collection of recovered artifacts to the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. The retrieved items repatriated from France, date back to the Late Period and include a limestone votive coffin, a limestone statue of a man, a wooden statue of the god Anubis in jackal form, two detached wooden hands from painted coffins, three rare papyrus scrolls sealed with royal stamps, and a cylindrical container inscribed in hieroglyphics used to store scrolls. These artifacts were successfully recovered by the Egyptian Embassy in Paris in collaboration with the French Ministry of the Interior. Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, attended the handover ceremony held at the embassy in February, following the French authorities' successful interception of an attempted sale by smugglers. Egypt also took legal action, joining the case in Paris as a civil plaintiff, which resulted in the conviction of the defendants and a court-ordered compensation of €23,000 in Egypt's favor. This marks the third such handover this month. Earlier in May, Egypt received 25 rare artifacts from U.S. authorities via its Consulate in New York, followed by the return of 20 significant pieces from Australia through Egyptian missions in Canberra and Sydney.
