Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola expressed profound distress over the conflict in Gaza, stating it 'hurts my whole body" during a poignant speech at the University of Manchester. The 54-year-old made these remarks while receiving an honorary doctorate from the university on Monday.
'It's so painful what we see in Gaza; it hurts my whole body," Guardiola said in excerpts of his speech shared on social media. He emphasised, 'It's not about ideology or who's right or wrong. It's about the love of life and caring for your neighbour."
Guardiola cautioned, 'We might think that seeing children as young as four being killed by bombs or in hospitals is not our business. But be careful. The next victims could be our own children."
He added, 'I see my children, Maria, Marius, and Valentina, and every morning since this nightmare started, I think of the children in Gaza. I'm terrified."

Guardiola has previously expressed political views, notably supporting the campaign for Catalan independence. He received the honorary degree for his unparalleled success at Manchester City, where he has won six Premier League titles, and for his work with the Guardiola Sala Foundation, which supports disadvantaged communities through various projects.
Other members of the football community have also spoken about Gaza. In October 2023, Liverpool and Egypt forward Mohamed Salah urged world leaders to 'prevent further slaughter of innocent souls". The following month, Bundesliga club Mainz dismissed Dutch winger Anwar El Ghazi, now at Cardiff, over social media posts related to the conflict.

Mikel Arteta's side showed this season they have improved to the point where they are in contention for major honours, including knocking out Real Madrid in the Champions League, but came up just short. For a player of his quality, who has spent six seasons playing regularly at the top level, Saka could do with expanding his medal collection. Arsenal will be disappointed to miss out on the prize money too, as they try to overhaul Liverpool and Manchester City, who have dominated the English game in recent seasons. Manchester City have left out Jack Grealish from their squad for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 after the England international was not included in the 27-member travelling list announced by the Premier League club on Wednesday. The omission of Grealish was anticipated after the midfielder fell down in the pecking order at Manchester City after playing a huge role in their treble in 2023. He made just seven Premier League starts in the 2024-25 campaign and wasn't called out of the bench during Manchester City's 0-1 defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final last month. Grealish was also left out of Manchester City's match-day squad for their final Premier League game of the season at Fulham. The 29-year-old had signed for £100 million from Aston Villa four years ago. There is a growing speculation thar Grealish might leave with a number of clubs in England and in Europe showing interest in the midfielder. Just like Grealish, Kevin De Bruyne has also not been included in Manchester City's trip to the United States. The Belgian playmaker is leaving Manchester City this summer but could still have played before his contract expires on June 30. Jack Grealish left out of Manchester City's Club World Cup squad
In what could be a move that foreshadows Jack Grealish's future at Manchester City, the club left out their 100 million pounds signing from the upcoming Club World Cup squad. City manager Pep Guardiola named a 27-member strong contingent with Grealish's name a notable omission. He also said Grealish has to fight for his place in the starting XI. 'Savinho is in better shape and everything than Jack, and that's why I played Savinho. Do I want the Jack that won the treble? Yeah, I want it, but I try to be honest with myself for that. They have to fight. You can say it's unfair,' Guardiola said. 'If you think that, then it's fine, but you have to prove (to me), 'Okay, I'm going to fight with Savinho, to deserve to play in that position', every single day, every single week and every single month,' the Spaniard added. But things didn't get any better for Grealish in the remaining few months of the season as he remained out of favour and City finished trophy-less for the first time in many years.
