Michigan's Sherrone Moore refuses to name Bryce Underwood as starting QB, says it's an open competition
Not so fast.
Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore refused to name Underwood as the team's starter, calling the position an "open competition" for now.
That may come as a surprise to some considering Underwood's status as a highly touted recruit. But Moore is willing to see what Mikey Keene can do during camp before making his decision. Keene, who joined Michigan as a transfer from Fresno State, threw 18 touchdowns against 11 interceptions last season. While Underwood comes with more hype, Keene does have experience, playing in 39 games over his college career.
For all the excitement over Underwood, he could lack the polish necessary to start from Day 1. Underwood will almost certainly see time as Michigan's starter this season, but it's possible Keene's experience makes him the better option for the team initially.
Competent quarterback play would go a long way for the Wolverines, who finished 8-5 last season despite a miserable offense. Any improvement on that side of the ball — particularly at quarterback — would go a long way toward making Michigan a national championship contender. Despite last year's struggles, the team still appears on early top-25 lists ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Moore has a few weeks before he needs to make a decision. Michigan opens the year against New Mexico on Aug. 30. Who will open the season under center when the Wolverines take the field for that contest? Moore is willing to give it some time before he makes that call.

2025 AL MVP odds: Cal Raleigh is new betting favorite to win the award, ahead of Aaron Judge
Early in the Major League Baseball season, it seemed the American League MVP award was all but wrapped up. New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge — the reigning AL MVP award winner — was flirting with hitting .400 and one bettor had even wagered $2,000 at 175-1 odds at BetMGM that he would accomplish the feat. Even if that was highly unlikely, Judge was still as high as a -10000 favorite to win the AL MVP at BetMGM in early June, which equates to roughly a 99% implied probability. But as Judge cooled off (relatively), Seattle Mariners Cal Raleigh caught fire and now leads the majors with 41 home runs. Raleigh is second in RBIs (86, one ahead of Judge) and thanks to Judge's flexor strain that landed him on the 10-day IL, Raleigh has improbably become the new favorite to win the AL MVP award at BetMGM, with -135 odds to Judge's +105. Detroit Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal (40-1) has the next-best odds. Back in June, when Judge was -10000, Raleigh had 35-1 odds to win the award, or roughly a 3% chance. Due to those long-shot odds, some liability on Raleigh winning the AL MVP has piled up at BetMGM at the sportsbook. "It wouldn't be pretty for us," Halvor Egeland, trading strategy manager at BetMGM, said via text message on the prospects of Raleigh winning MVP. "Cal has a pretty decent liability with us. In the beginning of June, he was 50-1, so there was a good amount of time for bettors to get a nice big number on him." While there aren't any singular wagers with massive liability at BetMGM, small bets at big prices, including a few $100 wagers at big odds per Egeland, add up quickly. It will be a fascinating race to watch the rest of the season, especially if Judge can get back on the field soon.

Latest TE Updates When I miss out on an elite tight end in my drafts, I often end up with one of my breakout candidates — Tucker Kraft, Dalton Kincaid, Colston Loveland, Tyler Warren. That group has the potential to challenge for a spot amongst the top seven fantasy tight ends, but can often be drafted in the 10th round or later. It's the sweet spot at this position and the area I highly recommend targeting. There was speculation all offseason that the Seahawks could release veteran tight end Noah Fant, but they waited until right before training camp to make the move. That helps disguise the fantasy value of second-round rookie tight end Elijah Arroyo, who seems headed for a big role in Klint Kubiak's scheme. While I prefer the long-term value of other Day 2 rookie tight ends like Mason Taylor, Harold Fannin Jr. and Terrance Ferguson, Arroyo has a chance to outproduce all of them in Year 1.
