Relay team aims to break Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon record set in 2007
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon is just a few days away. Runners are getting their final training in including those running the four person relay.
Since 2007, a course record of 2:55:00 has stood for the marathon relay. Lauren Roth, Katie Baksa, Eliza Dickenson and Liz Whelply are hoping to break that record during this year's race. Knoxville's relay is not spilt into equal lengths; first leg is 6.8 miles, the second is 6.1, third leg is 7.0 miles, and the final leg is 6.3 miles.

'I think the first goal is to have fun,' said Roth.
Dickenson added, 'And to wear Bound. We are going to be representing team Bound, so cheering on our friend here. If we can run hard, piece it together, it would be nice.'
'We've been texting each other over the last month or so, saying 'Ok, are you getting your workouts in are we ready?' We know what pace we need to hit to get the course record but it's going to be hard,' said Baksa.
The team will be wearing matching running sets made by Baksa's company Bound.
'That's one of my favorite things about my running friends and the running community as a whole. It's just a very positive, supportive group of people,' Dickenson said. 'It kind of makes you believe in yourself and makes you want to go after crazy goals or try crazy things and start stuff like a running apparel company, which is so amazing. Being able to support her in this way is exciting and fun.'
Where to cheer on runners during the 2025 Knoxville Marathon
The group has previously run 100 mile races in relay form, most recently in the Florida keys. They said this marathon course will be a lot easier for them.
'Oh yeah, that was also in Key West, very hot. This is just one leg versus like eight or nine,' they said.
Come race day you'll be able to tell them apart from the rest of the runners. The group likes to wear matching colors and outfits.
'We like to match to, so that's kind of fun. We're going to get our nails done, all the same color, we'll wear all the same colors,' Dickenson explained. 'We like to say, 'look fast, feel fast, be fast,' our nails and our outfit will help.'
What's the fastest Knoxville Marathon time ever recorded?
The record pace is right around a 6:33 mile. The group hoping they can put it all together and take home a new record.

17th annual Canaan Mountain Bike Festival to take over Davis this weekend
DAVIS, (WBOY) — The 17th annual Canaan Mountain Bike Festival is set to take place in Tucker County this weekend, and event organizers expect more than 300 bikers to come out and explore Canaan Valley and the Monongahela National Forest. The weekend will include group rides, skill sessions for bikers to improve, biking competitions, a morning session to help maintain a local trail, a hike on the Nature Conservancy's newly acquired Dobbin Slashings Nature Preserve and a dinner on Saturday night. New Dobbin Slashings Preserve in West Virginia is open to the public Other than the normal bike rides and chances to socialize, this year's event will include something a little different, a 'bike hash,' where one biker gets a 15-minute head start on the group and makes an improvised path that everyone else tries to follow. 'I've been biking a long time and it just still never gets old,' Haywood said. 'I love doing it with my friends and I like this area. It's challenging terrain and you know the weather can be wild and it's just a fun, beautiful place to ride a bike,' Blackwater Bicycle Association President Sue Haywood said. Event organizers said another unique thing about this festival is that normally bike festivals are centered around a big campground facility, whereas this one is centered around the two local towns. Michigan basketball expected to add German 7-footer Malick Kordel to 2025 class
Michigan basketball expected to add German 7-footer Malick Kordel to 2025 class Dusty May has been cooking on the recruiting trail and via the transfer portal, bringing in players like five-star combo guard Trey McKenney, No. 1 transfer Yaxel Lendeborg, and other key pieces like center Aday Mara, forward Morez Johnson Jr., and guard Elliot Cadeau. And it appears that Michigan basketball's recruiting class is getting bigger — literally. The Wolverines had one late addition in three-star Patrick Liburd — who officially signed this week — and appear set to add another. Having played in Germany for the Fraport Skyliners, Malick Kordel rings in at 7-foot-1, 250 pounds, and also had interest from Iowa, Butler, Villanova, Xavier, and others. With the Skyliners, Kordel averaged 11.9 points per game, 8.4 rebounds, and shot 71.4% from the field. Kordel appears to be Ann Arbor-bound after appearing in the University of Michigan directory. There has been no official announcement from either Kordel, any of the recruiting sites, or Michigan basketball at this juncture. Should he join the fold as expected, that would give the maize and blue to run with two seven-footers on the floor again — this time with Kordel and Mara — as they had last year with Vlad Goldin and Danny Wolf. The scouting report from the Villanova Rivals site: A raw athlete with growing understanding of basketball, Kordel still has a lot to learn about the game, considering he just recently picked up the sport within the last several years. At the same time, he uses his physical tools well in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL). With those tools, Kordel is an uber-effective screener, making it look as though opposing defenders are running into a brick wall when he sets a pick. When he dives to the basket, Kordel uses his long frame to catch passes from the ball-handler as the roll man for easy dunks and finishes around the rim. He thrives in the high pick-and-roll. The added athleticism he possesses allows Kordel to take one or two bounding steps -- either from the free throw line or the opposing elbows -- and go up for a lob or find open space in the defense for a pass from a teammate that leads to an easy deuce. His size also allows him to post up defenders with ease. Though he needs to grow in his technical skills around the rim, Kordel uses his strength and overwhelming bulk to set himself up for easy buckets. He also has the ability to out-strength or out-size other bigs close to the rim, while serving as a lob threat in the pick and roll. In addition to bully ball, Kordel can use touch within five feet for floaters or soft hooks from a few feet out. Assuming his commitment, that would give Michigan four pledges in 2025, with McKenney, Liburd, Winters Grady, and now Kordel in the fold.

Metcalf, Rodgers building rapport at minicamp
PITTSBURGH (BLACK & GOLD NATION) — If Aaron Rodgers is the new sheriff in town, that makes D.K. Metcalf his first deputy. He's a 6-foot-4-inch 27-year-old all pro who may just be the best receiver to wear a Steelers uniform since Antonio Brown. 'I like his whole personality and his approach and the way he is on the field, his professionalism,' said Rodgers of his new WR1. The Steelers traded for Metcalf this offseason and promptly signed him to a 5-year, $150 million extension. In six seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, Metcalf posted 900-or-more yards in each season while tallying 48 touchdowns. Steelers unfazed by Watt's absence His best season came in 2020 with Russell Wilson at the helm. He caught 83 passes fir 1,303 yards and 10 touchdowns. Success he hopes he can repeat as he is once again reunited with a former MVP (4x) signal caller. 'How quickly he released the ball and me getting off the line of scrimmage fast, I think is one thing that stands out first,' Metcalf said of Rodgers. 'But also his playmaking ability after a play breaks down or hit him, or contort his arm in a different way just to get the ball out. I think he's unique and I think he's going to help not only me, but a lot of receivers and tight ends and in the offense.' Rodgers and Metcalf began working out in March, months before Aaron had even signed with the team. The two met in California where Rodgers lives, something they both hope to continue before traveling to Latrobe. Rodgers in camp and committed to Steelers 'DK's been blowing me up for a while,' said Rodgers. 'You know, we got to get together out west, but I've gone against him a number of times. He's big, athletic, fast. [He's] got great hands, ball skills.' 'I like the way he views the game from a receiver standpoint, but also from a quarterback standpoint,' said Metcalf. 'I think I can gain a lot of knowledge just from being around him because he's seen a lot of football. So, [I'm] just trying to soak a soak up as much, information and ball as I can.'
