TL;DR: This open-box Ember Mug 2 keeps coffee or tea at your exact chosen temperature on its charging coaster, on sale for $69.99 (MSRP $129.95).
There's a small window when coffee is perfect. Too hot and you're waiting. Too cold and you're disappointed. The Ember Mug 2 is on sale for $69.99 and makes that window last as long as you want — up to 90 minutes on its own or all day with the included charging coaster.
Set your preferred drinking temperature between 120°F and 145°F, and the mug holds it there. Out of the box, it's preset to 135°F, so you can start sipping right away. For more control, pair it with the Ember app on iOS or Android to customize presets for different drinks, change the LED color, and get a ping when your coffee or tea hits that sweet spot.
The 10‑ounce mug is built from ceramic‑coated stainless steel with a scratch‑resistant finish and is IPX7-rated, meaning it's safe for hand washing and can be submerged in water up to 1 meter. The built‑in battery recharges on the USB‑C powered coaster, so you can keep it at your desk and never worry about your drink going cold halfway through a meeting.
It also features auto sleep, shutting itself down when not in use and waking back up when you pick it up or pour in liquid. A smart LED lets you know what's happening at a glance — heating, ready, or on standby.
This unit is an open-box item, which means it may have retail stickers or minor handling marks on the packaging, but the mug itself has been verified to be in like‑new condition. It comes with a one‑year warranty.
If you want your coffee, tea, or hot cocoa to taste like it's fresh‑poured every time you take a sip, this might be the easiest upgrade you make all year.

Amazon may abandon its Fire tablet software

Amazon could finally be ditching its proprietary software on Fire tablets, according to a report by Reuters . The company is reportedly prepping a higher-end tablet that'll run on Android. This device could come next year and will reportedly cost around $400. Amazon's Fire tablet software is itself a heavily modified version of Android, but the upcoming tablet will reportedly use the actual OS. This is great news for those who want easy integration with other Android devices. It's also great news for app developers. The primary downside of Fire OS is that it mandates the use of its own app store. The custom nature of the OS requires developers to make separate versions of apps for Amazon tablets. This has severely limited the store's variety, especially when compared to the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. The downside to all of this is likely the aforementioned $400 price tag. Fire tablets are known for being inexpensive. The Fire Tablet 7 costs $60 and sales can bring that down even further. The company's most expensive tablet is currently the Fire Max 11 , which costs $230. Amazon has declined to comment on the matter and we don't have any information regarding specs of the upcoming tablet. Hopefully the price increase translates to much better internals. This isn't the first time the company has given up on a product that used a proprietary operating system. The Fire Phone was released back in 2014 but failed to win over consumers. Amazon stopped selling the device in 2015 .

Amazon's next tablet might run Android

Amazon is preparing to launch a new tablet that could run on Android instead of its custom FireOS software, according to a report from Reuters. Multiple sources tell the outlet that Amazon plans to release the 'higher-end' Android tablet as early as next year. Amazon currently powers its Fire tablets using a forked version of Android, forcing developers to create apps compatible with FireOS and distribute them on the Amazon App Store. The company's upcoming tablet could soon change this, potentially giving users access to a wider variety of Android features and apps. The updated Fire tablet could cost $400, according to Reuters, marking a big jump from the Amazon's $230 Fire Max 11 device. Amazon still plans to launch cheaper tablets with the Linux-based Vega operating system used in some of its Fire TV streaming devices, but the company's full lineup of tablets will eventually adopt Android, Reuters reports.
