Two Doors Down star shares update on BBC show's return – and there's a major twist
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) TWO Doors Down star Doon Mackichan has revealed the show is finally set for a stage special after years of rumours. The actress, who plays boozy neighbour Cathy in the hit BBC comedy, dropped the bombshell news as the cast wrapped filming for a Christmas special. 2 The cast recently filmed a Christmas special. Credit: Steve Welsh 2 Doon is excited at the prospect of a live show. Credit: BBC Speaking at a Smack the Pony reunion at the Edinburgh Fringe, the 63-year-old admitted the popular programme was unlikely to continue on TV, but that they'd soon be hitting the OVO Hydro in Glasgow. She said: 'We've just shot the Christmas special for Two Doors Down. "I don't think we're going to do any more, but it looks like we're going to do a live show next year at the Hydro, so that's very exciting.' The festive episode - written by Gregor Sharp - came after doubts over the show's future following the sudden death of co-writer Simon Carlyle aged 48 in 2023. He always wanted to see the antics of the residents of Latimer Crescent transferred to the stage and it now looks likely that they'll honour his dream. Doon previously said: 'I tend to think it would be better to do a live show as a goodbye. 'I don't think it's that easy to do a series. "Simon and Gregor used to sit together for about six months and write it. "It's an incredible amount of work and it takes the magic of those two together. 'It's been really hard for Gregor to do it and there has been such pressure on him.' Elaine C Smith reveals the most requested Two Doors Down quotes she gets from the show's fans Two Doors Down launched in 2013 and seven series have been broadcast on the BBC. Other cast members including Jonathan Watson, Alex Norton, Elaine C Smith, Arabella Weir, Kieran Hodgson, Joy McAvoy and Graeme 'Grado' Stevely will all be returning for the Christmas special. Rab C. Nesbitt star Smith, 67, who plays foul-mouthed Christine, first mentioned plans for a live version of the show two years ago when they were put on hold following Carlyle's passing. She said: 'That would be the perfect tribute to Simon.'
