I saw John Legend perform at Glasgow's Hydro

US singer John Legend brought soul to the Hydro on Tuesday night by performing an intimate set to a smaller crowd than the arena is used to. A trio of backing singers signalled his entrance by teasing vocals before the Ohio-born star appeared dressed in a satin suit. He then asked: 'What's up Glasgow?' - before demanding, 'Get on your feet, c'mon,' to perform Get Lifted. (Image: John Legend performs at the Ovo Hydro in Glasgow, May 2025. Picture by Calum Buchan.) With a little swagger, he then launched into the tracks that featured on his 2004 debut Get Lifted including the Snoop Dogg featured I Can Change and Alright. The night was about celebrating the two decades since that album's release, and vocally Legend has never sounded better. This was particularly evident when he took it back to church for a performance of Take My Hand, Precious Lord. His voice was just beautiful. He then laughed: 'I am having so much fun going back 20 years with you all.' This moment marked the start of him reminiscing about his career. He revealed he played piano when he was just starting out on Lauren Hill's Everything is Everything before demonstrating the beat he created with his voice for Kanye's Jesus Walks - which featured on the rapper's debut The College Dropout - and the sound was quite something. He also boasted his CV included writing credits on Estelle's American Boy while he sang background vocals on Alicia Keys' You Don't Know My Name. This section of the show lifted the mood instantly as the atmosphere up until that point had been rather lacklustre. A crowd that small in the Hydro just gets lost, and it showed. Surprising a fan, he got her on stage for a dance, and she seized the moment making the audience laugh. Finishing things off, he showed off his own dance moves again on Green Light which featured Outkast's Andre 3000 while All of Me was the moment of the night. He signed off: 'It's been so beautiful hanging out with you.'

Olly Murs reveals when he's ‘hoping' to be back onstage after cancelling gigs and apologising to fans

OLLY Murs has told fans when he is 'hoping' to return to the stage after dramatically cancelling his gigs. The singer, 40, was forced to abandon a show in Glasgow on Thursday night after falling ill and has since pulled the plug on two more. 5 5 But Olly has now give fans a shred of hope by revealing when he plans to be back to it. Taking to Instagram, Olly has said he has every intention of returning to the stage on Sunday night in London. The star has also told fans that he will also be performing in Brighton on Tuesday next week, all being well. In a new Stories post, he said: "Cancelled shows... Tonight - Manchester. Saturday - Birmingham. "But am gunna rest up next 48hrs!! "Hoping to be back for... Sunday - The O2. Tuesday - Brighton." Olly finished his message with both a red heart emoji and a 'praying hands' one. The Heart Skipped A Beat star's post came three hours after he confirmed tonight's concert in Manchester and tomorrow's in Birmingham have both been cancelled. On Thursday night, Olly was forced to end his set after just five songs in Scotland when his voice began failing him. He told the audience at Glasgow 's Ovo Hydro: "This has never happened to me before but you can hear my voice is going. "I want to give you the concert you deserve so I can't go on. "I'm going to come back, but I need to go now." Olly has since given an update after seeing a doctor and said he has been ordered to go on voice rest for 48 hours. In a lengthly post, the devastated pop star admitted letting his fans down has "hit him hard". "To everyone in Glasgow last night, I want to start by saying sorry,' he said. "What happened last night has never happened to me before and I'm truly gutted and upset about it. "In 15years I've never had to leave the stage after 30minutes into a show, but my voice was failing me. I was panicking and worrying on what to do which gave me no choice but to address it." Olly continued: "The thought of upsetting people and letting you the fans down has hit me hard today. "Speaking in front of you last night and seeing people upset was hard to see but from the bottom of my heart I'm sorry but I had to put my health first." Olly, a dad-of-one, went on to say he is "deeply sorry" for having to cancel this weekend's shows in Manchester and Birmingham. Explaining that he has a "respiratory infection", Olly added: "(I) have been instructed to go on a strict 48 hour voice rest by the doctor to ensure no further damage to my vocal chords. " I've been having the best time on this tour and I'm so sorry to let my fans down, I'm hoping to be fighting fit in a few days to finish this amazing 15 year celebratory tour with a bang." These are unfortunately not the first concerts Olly has had to cancel during his tour. Last month, the former X Factor star apologised to fans with tickets to his Hull and Brighton arena shows in a statement after a stomach bug had "ripped through" his band. In February, he cancelled a show in Dubai at the last minute after being struck down with a throat infection. Olly had been due to perform at Bla Bla Dubai but took to Instagram just hours before the gig to apologise and saying doctors had ordered him to rest. 5 5 5

Olly Murs abandons Glasgow concert over voice struggles

Singer Olly Murs has walked off stage at his show in Glasgow amid struggles with his voice. The Troublemaker singer left the Ovo Hydro venue just six songs into his set on Thursday night. In a video posted to Instagram stories, the 41-year-old offered his audience an apology "from the bottom of my heart", telling fans he was "so sorry". "I've never done this in 15 years," he said. "Most of the time, as singers, you can get through it if your voice is not 100%. "I walked out tonight thinking my voice is great, maybe felt a little bit run down. But I didn't think I couldn't do the show or I wouldn't have come out otherwise." The Up singer said he would see a doctor later that evening ahead of shows in Manchester, Birmingham and London over the weekend. "It's unfair for you guys who spent all that money to come and see me, you deserve the best show," he said. "Hopefully, I can recover from this." The Essex-born singer rose to prominence on the sixth series of the X-Factor in 2009. His self-titled debut album, released the following year, was certified double platinum. Murs's most recent album, Marry Me, was released in 2022. The Dear Darlin' singer is set to play at The Marquee in Cork on Sunday July 13. He played in Dublin's 3Arena last month.
