In a thrilling announcement for Indian rock fans, legendary alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins are finally headed to India. The iconic group will make their long-awaited India debut this October as part of their 'Rock Invasion 2025' Asia Tour, with concerts scheduled at Transform Arena in Bengaluru on October 11 and Jio World Garden in Mumbai on October 12.
Presented by EVA Live, one of India's premier live event companies, the two-city tour promises to be nothing short of historic. For over three decades, fans in India have waited to witness the band's explosive live performances—and now, that dream is becoming a reality.
The India shows will feature a career-spanning setlist that blends the band's most celebrated hits with newer sonic explorations. Audiences can expect to hear fan-favourite anthems like 'Tonight, Tonight," '1979," 'Today" and 'Bullet with Butterfly Wings", alongside newer work from albums such as ATUM, Aghori Mhori Mei (2024), and recent tracks like 'Sighommi" and 'Beguiled."

Asia Tour After a Decade-Long Hiatus
The India leg is part of a larger two-month-long Asia tour, their first in over a decade. The tour kicks off in Japan this September and includes stops in Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka, Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Busan, Manila, Bangkok, Jakarta, Singapore, Bahrain, and Abu Dhabi. The band returns to Asia after 12 years, and this will mark their first-ever performances in India and the Middle East, making the 2025 edition of Rock Invasion a momentous milestone.
In a statement, the band shared their excitement, 'We're thrilled to be finally coming to India, some 36 years after we started in Chicago. Formed in Chicago in 1988, The Smashing Pumpkins have sold over 30 million albums worldwide and bagged numerous awards including two GRAMMYs, seven MTV VMAs, and an American Music Award. Their discography includes landmark albums like Siamese Dream (1993), Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995), and Machina/The Machines of God (2000). In 2023, they released ATUM, a sequel to their 90s classics, and followed it with Aghori Mhori Mei in 2024—a return to their guitar-heavy, visceral sound.

Kol to host jury for India's Oscar entry
Kolkata: The president of the Film Federation of India (FFI), the umbrella organization for all major film associations in India, has announced that Kolkata will host the jury meeting to select India's official entry for the 98th Academy Awards. At its managing committee meeting on Tuesday, the FFI executive committee also opened applications for films seeking nomination in the International Feature Film category. Kiran Rao's 'Laapataa Ladies' was India's official entry for the 97th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category, but it did not make the shortlist. The FFI will appoint a jury chairperson, along with experienced professionals from creative fields, to form the selection panel. The final entry will be determined by a vote after all screenings are completed, with the announcement scheduled by late Sept. According to FFI president Firdausul Hasan, the organization has overseen this selection process in India since 1957. "That year, 'Mother India' was the Indian entry," Hasan noted. The Mehboob Khan film starring Nargis and Sunil Dutt had reached the final five in the Best Foreign Film category. "Since 1957, there have been two occasions—2019 and 2021—when the jury met in Kolkata. The first was in 2019, chaired by actor-director Aparna Sen. The second was in 2021, with director Shaji Karun as jury chairman," Hasan added. In 2019, 'Gully Boy' was chosen as India's official Oscar entry, while in 2021, "Koozhangal" (Pebbles) was selected. On both occasions, the jury convened at Bijoli Theatre for screenings and deliberations. "This year, we plan to hold the meeting at one of Kolkata's multiplexes," he said. According to the guidelines, eligible films must be released in India between October 1, 2024, and September 30, 2025. Each film must have a public theatrical run of at least seven consecutive days in a commercial cinema for the benefit of the producer and exhibitor. The Academy also permits films to qualify if they are theatrically exhibited outside their country of origin (excluding the USA and its territories) for at least seven days with paid admission. Eligible entries must have at least 60% of their content in a local Indian language or dialect. Among other things, submissions must also include a list and synopsis of artists and technicians, an English-subtitled version, details of film festival entries or awards received, and a website or page for the film. Films unreleased as of September 10 this year but seeking Oscar consideration must submit an undertaking and confirmation from the production and distribution company that the film will be released for at least seven days in a theatre before the deadline. Passenger on India debut: I would love to work in a Bollywood film
Though he's visited India quite a few times as a tourist, his week-long sojourn this November is extra special. Passenger aka Mike Rosenberg is looking forward to marking his music debut in India with a three-city tour. 'India has always been close to my heart. I've been to Kerala so many times and the place is magical. But I never got a chance to travel to other parts of the country. During my week-long musical trip to India, I wish to soak in the magic and culture of the beautiful place,' says the multi-award-winning English singer-songwriter, who will be performing Passenger India 2025 across Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. 'Thanks to social media and other music platforms, I get to gauge the love Indians shower on me and my music. Since I'm a lot into indie folk, I know Indians resonate with that kind of work. I can't wait to take the stage and offer all that I have to my fans during my India tour. I want my concerts to be the best Indians have seen. People spend money and invest so much time and emotions in attending a concert, and I make sure I make my gigs interactive so that they feel a part of it,' says Passenger. The 41-year-old, who calls himself 'lazy' when it comes to educating himself with music from other countries, says he's aware of the kind of popularity Indian musicians such as AR Rahman command globally, and he hopes to learn more about such artistes and their works. The singer, best-known for his chartbuster Let Her Go, shares, 'I would love to work in a Bollywood film. Though my trip is really packed, I hope to catch up with some artistes and explore the possibility of collab. I feel I can connect with Indian audiences, as the themes for my music - love, loss and introspection- are something Indians resonate with.'
