Chris Martin defends keeping Coldplay kiss cam in shows after Astronomer CEO ‘debacle'

New York Post11 hours ago
Chris Martin isn't changing a thing.
During a 'Music of the Spheres World Tour' stop at Craven Park in Kingston upon Hull, England, on Monday, the Coldplay frontman joked about last month's Jumbotron 'debacle' that outed Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and HR exec Kristin Cabot.
'We are so happy to be here,' Martin, 48, began during the Aug. 18 concert, per NME. 'Many of you have written signs. So, I'll take some time to try and read some signs. Then we'll see what happens.'

One fan revealed that they were also at the now-infamous Coldplay show in Massachusetts last month, and the 'Viva la Vida' singer thanked them for returning despite the kiss cam backlash.
'You were at that Boston gig,' Martin said. 'Well, okay, thank you for coming again after that debacle.'
The 'Yellow' singer then explained why Byron and Cabot's exposed cheating scandal won't stop Coldplay from continuing to show fans on the Jumbotron during their concerts.

'We've been doing it a long time, and it is only recently that it became a…yeah,' he said. 'Life throws you lemons and you've got to make lemonade. So, we are going to keep doing it because we are going to meet some of you.'
The Jumbotron kiss cam 'debacle' unfolded on July 16 as the 'Fix You' rockers performed at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
After Byron and Cabot were caught embracing during a song, the pair tried to duck away and conceal their faces from the camera.

However, it was too little too late, and Martin unknowingly teased the secret couple about having an affair.
'Oh, look at these two! All right, c'mon, you're okay,' he joked. 'Oh, what? Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy.'
The incident quickly went viral on social media, and the pair was identified as Byron and Cabot. It was also revealed that the woman the Astronomer CEO was cuddling with on camera was not his wife.
Byron ultimately resigned from the $1.3 billion AI company a few days later.

'Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding,' the company announced July 19. 'Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met.'
'Andy Byron has tendered his resignation, and the Board of Directors has accepted,' it added.
Cabot, meanwhile, resigned one week later.

'I can confirm that Kristin Cabot is no longer with Astronomer,' a rep told The Post. 'She has resigned.'
The saga did not end there, as Astronomer later hired actress Gwyneth Paltrow, Martin's ex-wife, as a 'temporary' spokesperson for the company.
'I've been hired on a very temporary basis to speak on behalf of the 300-plus employees at Astronomer,' the 'Shakespeare in Love' star, 52, said in a video posted on the company's LinkedIn page.
'Astronomer has gotten a lot of questions over the last few days, and they wanted me to answer the most common ones,' she added.

Former ‘Home Improvement' star Patricia Richardson looks unrecognizable ahead of reunion with castmates

A former sitcom star might have fans doing a double-take when she reunites with her ex-castmates on the small screen this fall. 'Home Improvement' actress Patricia Richardson looks nearly unrecognizable since she portrayed Jill Taylor on the popular ABC sitcom starring Tim Allen throughout most of the '90s. The 74-year-old no longer has a chestnut brown bob, like the one she flaunted during the seven-time Emmy Award-winning show that followed the work and family life of Tim 'The Tool Man' Taylor. 4 Patricia Richardson started growing her hair out during the COVID-19 pandemic. Getty Images Richardson now rocks a head of shock white hair, which she started growing out during the COVID-19 pandemic. 'Ok here we have covid hair grow out,' she captioned in an Instagram post showing the stark difference between her dyed hair and white roots in Oct. 2020. 'Just don't want to cut it! So…. new covid fashion raccoon hair?' Fans flooded her comment section, cheering on her 'beautiful' and natural style which she seemingly kept over recent years. Richardson flaunted her white hair during a 2021 episode of 'NCIS' and also showed off her mane on the red carpet for the premiere of 'Chantilly Bridge' in March 2023 and during a SAG-AFTRA event in Los Angeles in December 2023. Richardson will soon reunite with her former 'Home Improvement' husband and some of her former co-stars during the Season 2 premiere of Allen's current ABC show, 'Shifting Gears,' according to a report by Deadline. 4 Richardson flaunted a chestnut brown bob when she was on 'Home Improvement.' The reunion comes over 25 years after 'Home Improvement' ended in 1999. Richard Karn, known for playing Al Borland in 'Home Improvement,' and Debbe Dunning, who portrayed 'Tool Time Girl' Heidi Keppert in the '90s show, will appear alongside Richardson in Allen's show about a widowed owner of a car restoration shop, the outlet reported. It's not been revealed which fictional roles the trio of guest stars will play in the upcoming premiere but the cast is supposed to help Allen's fictional character, Matt Parker, in an 'unexpected way,' per Deadline. 4 'Home Improvement' ran for eight seasons on ABC in the '90s. ©Touchstone Television/Courtesy Everett Collection The Season 2 premiere of 'Shifting Gears' won't be the first time Richardson has reunited with Allen, 72, on television. The four-time Emmy Award-nominee appeared as Helen Potts, an inconsiderate neighbor, in two episodes of his 'Last Man Standing' series in 2015 and 2016. Richardson has maintained her career since 'Home Improvement' ended. She portrayed Dr. Andy Campbell in dozens of episodes of 'Strong Medicine,' political strategist Sheila Brooks in 'The West Wing' and had a series of guest star roles on shows like 'Grey's Anatomy,' 'NCIS' and 'The Blacklist.'

Jack Draper, Jessica Pegula share funny post-match exchange at US Open: ‘Old married couple'

While Jack Draper and Jessica Pegula may have said all of four words to each other before teaming up for this week's U.S. Open mixed doubles tournament, the two already sound like an 'old married couple,' one reporter joked during a hilarious back-and-forth on Tuesday. Pegula and Draper were speaking with reporters after they had defeated Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev and Mirra Andreeva to advance to the semifinals. Draper was asked about his seriousness on the court during the matches and what it would mean to win, he replied that 'it would mean a lot' and that 'obviously it is like a bit of an exhibition format. It's nice to play with someone.' AFP via Getty Images That kicked off a funny exchange as Pegula jokingly admonished Draper for calling it an 'exhibition.' 'You shouldn't be saying that, but that's OK,' she said to him. The No. 5-ranked men's tennis player in the world was a bit confused at first, thinking that his comment about winning was what Pegula had first been referring to. Advertisement 'Yeah. It's not an exhibition. I know what you're saying,' she added. 'I'm hearing that a lot, it's a bit of an exhibition, a bit of fun, why am I so locked in,' Draper continued. 'It's a good opportunity to play, do well, get a lot of points in before next week, yeah. Like, I'm enjoying being locked in. I don't know why it's a crime to be locked in.' The moment amused Pegula as she jumped back in laughing as she said, 'No, it's fine. I'm just laughing at the 'exhibition' part.' Getty Images It led the reporter to chime in about the two sounding like they had known each other for quite some time. 'No, it was a great answer,' Pegula added with a smile. The pair certainly played like they've known each other for a long time as Pegula and Draper dispatched their first round opponents, 4-2, 4-2 and then sent their quarterfinal opponents home in quick order, 4-1,4-1.
