The Hindu2 days ago
Filmmaker Karan Johar, whose credits include films such as Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and My Name Is Khan, slammed a troll on social media for addressing him as "nanny of nepo kids" and called for lesser negativity.
Johar shared a post on his Instagram handle on Monday praising Saiyaara actors, Ahaan Panday, who made his acting debut, and Aneet Padda, known for featuring in web series Big Girls Don't Cry and the Kajol-starrer film Salaam Venky.
Directed by Mohit Suri, Saiyaara was released on July 18 and has garnered a positive response from the audience. Johar penned a heartfelt note and also called the film Suri's best directorial.
In the same post, one of the users left a comment pointing out Johar, but the filmmaker was ready to answer. The comment under the post read, "A gaya nepo kid ka daijaan (here comes the nanny of nepo kids)".
Johar responded by saying, "Chup kar!!! Ghar baithe baithee negativity mat paal! Do bachon ka kaam dekh !! Aur khud kuch kaam kar (Shut up. Don't breed negativity while sitting at home. Watch the work by two kids and do some work yourself)."
The filmmaker often faces negativity when it comes to the topic of nepotism as he has launched several star kids, including Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Ananya Panday.

Saiyaara just fixed everything Bollywood broke about love

Let's be honest. Bollywood has been selling us some wild ideas about love for years–the kind where the guy is a 'damaged genius' with zero emotional regulation, and the girl is just there — quiet, loyal, crying in the corner while he throws a tantrum. Enter Saiyaara, a film that doesn't scream love through violence or manipulation, it whispers it through respect, space, and personal growth. Directed by Mohit Suri and led by fresh faces Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, Saiyaara feels like a collective exhale after holding our breath through Animal and Kabir Singh. Ahaan Panday–yes, from that film family–doesn't ride in on nepotism fumes. He shows up with real emotion, vulnerability, and pain as Krish. And Aneet Padda? She's a force. Her Vaani isn't just a love interest. She's a whole, layered woman with agency, a past, and clear boundaries. Let's back up. In Kabir Singh, the hero's idea of romance is slapping his partner, getting high, hooking up with strangers, and still being handed a redemption arc. In Animal, Ranbir's Ranvijay labels himself an 'alpha' while emotionally torturing his wife. And guess what? These women stay. They always stay. Because apparently, that's 'true love.' But, in reality, that's trauma bonding with a Bollywood filter. What makes Saiyaara radical is what it doesn't do. No over-the-top monologues about dying for love. No obsessive texting. No chasing people through airports. Just two people–Krish and Vaani–learning to choose each other after choosing themselves. Krish walks away from a toxic home, gives up on his drunkard father, not out of rebellion but survival. He says, 'Mujhe kuch banna hai, aise gareebi mein nahi jeena.' Vaani, recovering from being ghosted before her wedding, refuses to marry out of fear or pity. Even when Krish proposes to her in hospital, she gently says no. Not because she doesn't love him, but because she doesn't want him to give up on himself. She says, 'Shadi hojayegi kabhi bhi. Nahi bhi hogi toh regret nahi hoga. Regret hoga agar tum apne sapne chhod doge.' ALSO READ | In Saiyaara's final act, Mohit Suri channels the best of Aditya Chopra's brand of romance Let that sink in. A Bollywood heroine says no to marriage because she wants the hero to chase his dreams. When Vaani is later diagnosed with Alzheimer's, she doesn't cling to Krish. She walks away–again, not out of weakness, but clarity. She wants to remember who she is without becoming someone's emotional project. And when they reunite? It's not to complete each other, but because they've already completed themselves. And the best part? Saiyaara never shames you for choosing yourself. It doesn't guilt-trip the characters (or the audience) for walking away from chaos. Instead, it says: if it costs your peace, your dreams, or your identity — it's not love. It's just noise. In a world where Ranvijays and Arjun Reddys are dominating our idea of love, Saiyaara challenges them. It's soft and self-aware. It tells you love isn't about fixing broken people–it's about building something healthy with someone who's also doing the work. This film doesn't glorify pain, it celebrates healing. It tells you that you can take time, walk away, come back, and still be whole. That the right love won't ask you to shrink. It'll see you fully. So maybe, just maybe, Saiyaara is the romantic drama we have been waiting for. Jyothi Jha works as a Copy Editor at the Indian Express. Mohit Suri says he cast Aneet Padda in Saiyaara as he ‘wanted someone who hadn't altered her face or body'

Filmmaker Mohit Suri's Saiyaara is captivating hearts and breaking records at the box office. Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda's chemistry in the film has become the talk of the town. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Mohit revealed why he chose Aneet as the lead heroine and recalled their disastrous first meeting. Mohit Suri reveals what made him cast Aneet Padda in Saiyaara. Before the release of the film, Mohit talked about the casting process and revealed that it was Aditya Chopra who introduced him to Ahaan. Although he didn't initially see his film's character in Ahaan during their first meeting, he spent time with him and eventually recognised the qualities he was looking for. Mohit Suri reveals why he chose Aneet Padda for Saiyaara Mohit further opened up about the reason he cast Aneet in the film and said, 'I'm sorry if I don't sound politically correct, but one thing that was very scary was that I wanted a 20–22-year-old girl who hadn't done anything cosmetological to her face or body in today's age. That was a big requirement. I wanted someone who felt real and hadn't altered her body. Aneet had done some work before, and she was great at it. She was predominantly a great actor, especially for the part I required her to play. She came through all the slaughtering of auditions.' He added that other actors also gave good auditions, but they were 'too done up'. He then opened up about how he broke the ice with Aneet and said, 'It was a disastrous first meeting with her. She came into the office wearing a yellow costume, and Ahaan was there with me. I told her, 'What the hell are you wearing?' Someone had told her that's how the character was. She must have got really scared, and when this generation gets scared, they get chatty. But Ahaan tried to take all the chattiness onto himself. Her tests, though, were damn good.' He revealed that Ahaan saved the situation for Aneet that day. About Saiyaara The romantic musical drama features Ahaan as a struggling musician whose life takes a turn when he crosses paths with Vaani Batra (Aneet), an ambitious aspiring journalist. Their love story unfolds through a series of emotional highs and lows, set against the backdrop of dreams, passion, and heartbreak. Apart from Ahaan and Aneet's chemistry and Mohit Suri's direction, what struck a chord with the audience is the music. From Tum Ho Toh, Saiyaara, Barbaad, to Humsafar, fans can't stop crooning the melodies. The film has crossed the ₹100 crore mark at the box office in just four days and continues to attract audiences to theatres.
