Denver Nuggets being sued by their mascot in NBA stunner
The man behind the suit, Drake Solomon, is seeking unspecified damages from Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, which owns the Nuggets, for an alleged violation of disability protection laws.
The Colorado Sun reported this week that Solomon was diagnosed with a bone tissue condition, avascular necrosis, during the 2022-23 season, and was eventually forced to have multiple surgeries, including a hip replacement procedure during the following season.

When Solomon told his supervisors about the impending hip replacement, he claims the team decided to hold tryouts for the mascot gig 'due to his record of impairment and their lack of confidence in his health.'
Solomon said he recovered quickly from his hip replacement and returned to work during the 2023-24 season.

The lawsuit claims his return to work included a 'hostile work environment,' and the team decided to hold tryouts for the new Rocky because he 'burned them last time.'
Solomon was fired in August 2024, shortly after tryouts for a new Rocky, which he says violated his rights under the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act.

Solomon began his career with the team in 2012 as a 'trampoline dunk artist.'

His father was the original Rocky for over 30 years and retired in 2021 when Solomon took over the gig in a private, closed-door tryout.

'It was not easy to go ahead with this because I love the Nuggets,' Solomon said. 'They've been my whole life and my family. For things to end the way they did, it was pretty heartbreaking.'
The Nuggets won the NBA Finals in 2023, which wound up being one of Solomon's last seasons as the team's mascot.

NBA considers Bucks, Pacers as Thunder rivalries for 2025-26 Rivals Week
It's August, which means the NBA has released its 2025-26 regular season schedule. In one of the more fun days of the league's calendar, all 30 teams learned when and where they'll play their opponents in the upcoming campaign. The Oklahoma City Thunder learned that they'll be a household name. The schedule-makers have rewarded the NBA champions with 34 national television games. That's tied for the most in the league with the Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors and New York Knicks. Not bad for a small market. The Thunder had one of the greatest seasons the NBA has ever seen the past year. They had a historic 68-14 regular-season record, which featured the league record for point differential at a plus-12.9. The Thunder will be involved for Opening Night and Christmas. They'll also be included in the NBA's Rivals Week. To add intrigue during an otherwise mundane part of the season, the league has branded the Jan. 20-24 period as when rivals clash. The Thunder have two of their games highlighted during the event. Surprisingly, though, they're against teams that most fans would hardly consider as rivals. The two opponents left many confused as the NBA branded them as an OKC nemesis. The Thunder will travel to face the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday, Jan. 21. The 8:30 p.m. CT tipoff will be broadcast on ESPN. The Thunder will then host the Indiana Pacers on Friday, Jan. 23. The 8:30 p.m. CT tipoff will be broadcast on Amazon Prime. Maybe you can spin some angles. The Thunder lost to the Bucks in the 2024 NBA Cup finals. On the flip side, they defeated the Pacers in seven games in the 2025 NBA Finals to capture the championship. Perhaps rematches for both prestigious matchups are enough to warrant being part of the NBA's Rivals Week despite zero bad blood. Even if you believed that, most fans won't buy it. The more likely explanation is that the NBA tried to include the Thunder in their week-long event and couldn't figure out the logistics to do it against a team that's actually considered a rival or, at the very least, in the same conference.
