Saif Ali Khan To Train In Kalaripayattu For Oppam Hindi Remake, Filming Starts Soon
Saif Ali Khan will star in the Hindi remake of the 2016 Malayalam hit Oppam. Directed by Priyadarshan, the film will start production by year-end.
So, it's really happening! After months of rumours and anticipation, Saif Ali Khan is officially set to star in the Hindi remake of the 2016 Malayalam hit Oppam. The actor and filmmaker Priyadarshan, who have been talking about adapting this Mohanlal-starrer for a while now, are finally making it official.
Last week, the makers dropped a big announcement in a trade magazine, revealing that they've secured the rights to remake Oppam in Hindi. The film is all set to go on floors by the end of the year.
Saif isn't just going to show up and do his usual thing in this upcoming film. He's diving deep into something totally new! The actor will be training in Kalaripayattu, an ancient Indian martial art form, to pull off some intense action sequences in the film.
Before the cameras start rolling, Saif is diving into some serious prep. A major part of his preparation will involve training in Kalaripayattu, an ancient martial art. According to sources by Mid-Day, 'Saif will take a two-month break after finishing Rahul Dholakia's movie. During this time, he'll undergo workshops to prepare for playing a blind character. After that, he'll head to Kerala to train in Kalaripayattu, as his character is a skilled martial artist."
Produced by Antony Perumbavoor, Oppam revolves around Mohanlal's character, Jayaraman, a visually impaired man with extraordinary senses of smell, hearing, and touch. When a retired judge is murdered by a man he wrongfully sentenced, Jayaraman steps up to protect the judge's daughter. Sources reveal that Saif Ali Khan has been in talks with Priyadarshan and the producers of Oppam since 2023.
'In the months that followed, Saif focused on Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins, while Priyadarshan got busy with his projects. Now, Saif has secured the rights for the remake and set the shoot dates. Priyadarshan is already working on the script, and filming is expected to begin by the end of 2025 after Saif completes Rahul Dholakia's film and Priyadarshan wraps up Bhooth Bangla with Akshay Kumar and Tabu," shared the insider, according to Mid-Day.
In an exciting twist, Bobby Deol will join Saif Ali Khan as the antagonist in the Oppam remake. Interestingly, Samuthirakani, who played the villain in the original Malayalam film, is also expected to play a significant role in the Hindi version.

Prithviraj Sukumaran's Wife Supriya Menon Names Online Harasser After Years Of Abuse
1/6 For seven years, Supriya Menon, journalist-turned-film producer and wife of actor Prithviraj Sukumaran, chose silence over confrontation. But that ended this week, when she publicly named a woman who she says has stalked and abused her online since 2018. Supriya took to Instagram to reveal that the woman behind the years-long harassment is a Malayali nurse named Christina Eldo, also known as Christina Babu Kurien, reportedly based in Chattanooga, USA. According to Supriya, the woman has been creating fake social media accounts and consistently harassing her with personal and abusive comments. The harassment, she said, escalated over time, even targeting her late father. (News18 Malayalam) "I found out who she is years ago," Supriya wrote on her Instagram story, but sge let it go because the accused had a small child. Her decision to go public now, she explained, was prompted by the continued abuse and the attacker's refusal to back off, despite being blocked repeatedly. "Even that filter she has on is not enough to hide the ugliness she holds inside", Supriya added, sharing a filtered photo of the woman. A TOI report quoted a promotion consultant with ETimes who confirmed that the woman Supriya identified is a nurse currently residing in the United States. (News18 Malayalam) Supriya Menon, who came from a middle-class background, rose to prominence first as a journalist with a major media house in Mumbai. It was during that time she met Prithviraj Sukumaran. After their marriage, Supriya stepped into the world of cinema, not just as the actor's wife, but as the head of Prithviraj Productions. She went on to carve her own identity in the Malayalam film industry, taking up the producer's role in multiple successful projects. Despite these achievements, Supriya has often spoken about how her identity is still frequently defined by her husband's fame. In interviews, she has openly expressed her wish to be acknowledged as a woman who achieved success on her own terms. "Many people invite me as Prithviraj's wife," she once said, "but I want to be seen as someone who has built something of her own." (News18 Malayalam) Supriya described the harassment as a part of her daily life. Each time she blocked one account, another would appear. Initially, she tried to ignore it, hoping that disengagement would end the cycle. But when the attacks extended to her deceased father, it became a line she could no longer tolerate. In a post from 2023, Supriya had hinted that she might take action after offensive comments appeared about her father. This week's revelation appears to be a follow-up to that threat - except now, she's named the alleged harasser. (News18 Malayalam) The Instagram story, posted to her profile with over 10 lakh followers, also included a scathing caption. Supriya added that the woman's primary activity seemed to be posting abusive comments under every account that posts something about her. It remains unclear why Christina targeted Supriya in the first place. Supriya herself has expressed confusion over the woman's motives or whether there's any real-world connection between them. (News18 Malayalam) What is clear is that the abuse wasn't a one-off. It lasted for years, spanned dozens of fake accounts, and became a regular feature of Supriya's online experience. Supriya has not yet indicated whether she plans to pursue legal action. But by naming the woman publicly, she's made it clear that the silent tolerance of harassment is over. (News18 Malayalam)

Karan Johar regrets remaking Mani Ratnam's film with Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor: 'I've gone wrong'
Karan Johar is one of the leading filmmakers of today's time. He recently opened up about how his first instincts are the biggest decision-makers when it comes to giving chances to new talents or movie projects. Whenever he listened to his instincts, he succeeded, and when he ignored them, the filmmaker failed. Karan Johar reveals his first instinct was not to remake Mani Ratnam's O Kadhal Kanmani In a recent podcast with Jay Shetty, Karan Johar revealed his initial instinct not to remake Mani Ratnam's much-loved movie O Kadhal Kanmani in Hindi. He said, 'I remember there was a film. It was an adaptation of the Mani Ratnam film. It is called OK Jaanu. Aditya (Aditya Roy Kapur) and Shraddha (Shraddha Kapoor) just had a blockbuster called Aashiqui 2. They had already agreed to do the film. And that film came to me as a project ready with a great remake. Shaad (Shaad Ali) was a wonderful director, and yet in my heart, I had actually felt that, Should this film be remade? Because it's so much at the moment. Can that moment be recaptured?' The Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani director went on to add, 'Somewhere, the magic of the original we couldn't recapture. And it was nobody's fault. But my instinct told me I shouldn't do it. And I did it. And that's when I realised that I should listen to my instinct. I have gone wrong.' Karan Johar owns up to his failures While emphasizing the importance of listening to one's instincts, Karan Johar acknowledged his failures alongside his successes throughout his long career. He further said, 'Every failure of mine is as special to me as success. It's just the way I look at it.' For the unversed, OK Jaanu, starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor, was co-produced by Karan Johar under his banner, Dharma Productions. The 2017 musical romantic drama received negative reviews, which led to its box office failure. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.
