Dialogue is foundation of democracy: Yogi

Gorakhpur, May 12 (UNI) Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said that democracy thrives on meaningful dialogue, while stressing that public participation and open communication are key to achieving ease of doing business and living.
Speaking after inaugurating the Urban Service Centre and Senior Citizen Day Care Centre in Civil Lines, the CM said, "In a democracy, the public is not just seen as ordinary citizens, but revered as 'Janata Janardan'. It is with this spirit that we must move forward."
Reflecting on India's global progress, he said the country is reaching new milestones in a rapidly changing world. "Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India, during the Amrit Kaal of Independence, overtook Britain, its former colonial ruler, to become the fifth largest economy. And now, we have surpassed Japan to become the fourth largest economy in the world," he said.
He said, "The nation's prosperity must be the collective goal of all citizens. Aligned with this vision, Uttar Pradesh has launched a sustained campaign to promote urban development over the past eight years."
Describing Gorakhpur as the lifeline for nearly five crore people of eastern UP, Yogi noted the city's remarkable transformation. "Not long ago, Gorakhpur resembled a Nagar Panchayat. But today, it is a municipal corporation counted among the state's major urban centres. Progress in connectivity, tourism, sanitation and public services reflects our commitment to inclusive growth," he said.
He praised the Municipal Corporation for successfully developing the Urban Service Centre and the Senior Citizen Day Care Centre. "The Service Centre will offer residents of 16 wards one-stop access to key municipal services, while the Day Care Centre will provide health, recreational, and learning facilities for the elderly," he said.
The CM said, "Today, Gorakhpur is changing, and it is essential that the common citizen becomes part of this transformation,' CM Yogi said. 'Real change happens when people embrace it as a collective movement. The vision of a Smart City will only be realised when every citizen engages with the new systems being put in place."
He also urged citizens to take ownership of urban development by forming mohalla sanitation committees, ensuring proper functioning of street lighting systems and creating designated vending zones to improve traffic flow. "Citizens, too, have a vital role in shaping the cities they live in," he said.
During the event, Yogi directed the Municipal Corporation to begin early monsoon preparations, stressing the need to prevent water logging by promptly clearing drains and removing silt. He also urged strict enforcement of the plastic ban.
Highlighting recent progress, he said, "The city's drainage system has improved significantly. Today, Gorakhpur is recognised for efficient drainage, not for waterlogging. With the completion of the Gordhaiya Nala Project, this system will be further strengthened and the site itself will be developed into a tourism spot."
The Chief Minister also felicitated several Municipal Corporation personnel, including the Assistant Municipal Commissioner, for outstanding performance in tax collection, presenting them with certificates and mementos.
Following the inauguration, CM Yogi inspected the Urban Facilitation Centre and the Senior Citizen Day Care Centre to review the infrastructure and services offered.

Rajasthan BJP to observe Aug 14 as 'Horror of Partition Day'

Jaipur, Aug 3 (UNI) The Rajasthan unit of BJP has decided to observe August 14 as Horror of Partition Day (Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Divas) to condemn the catastrophe of the partition, the party state president Madan Rathore said on Sunday. The move of partition that was enforced on August 14, 1947, caused traumatic sufferings to numerous citizens as it unsettled lakhs of the people, Rathore said. "Many citizens lost everything they owned and forced to live like refugees. Many people even lost their lives in violent clashes that had broken in aftermath of the partition", he said. "Recalling the suffering - sacrifices of those numerous Indians, we will pay rich tributes to all of those patriots and will also reaffirm our resolve for working to keep intact the national unity and integrity and strengthen (communal) harmony and brotherhood", Rathore, a sitting Rajya Sabha MP said. "For next day the Independence Day August 15, our workers will try to provide the tricolour to all households so that every family can hoist the national flag for making success our "Har Ghar Tiranga" campaign," he added. "The BJP workers would reach out to people of all sects and strata irrespective of their faith, ideology or the party allegiance, for providing the flags to them and appeal to them to unfurl the tricolour rising above party-lines," the BJP state chief minister said. 8.5 lakh govt jobs given in 8 years, 2.17 lakh recruited in police: Yogi

As many as 8.5 lakh government jobs were given to the youth of the state in the past eight years, chief minister Yogi Adityanath said on Sunday. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath distributed appointment letters to 1,374 assistant operators and 120 workshop staff selected for the UP Police telecommunications department. (HT Photo) The police department saw the highest recruitment, with 2,17,500 young people joining the force since 2017, he said while addressing the appointment letter distribution ceremony for 1,494 newly selected assistant operators in UP Police telecom department. 'Before 2017, nepotism in police recruitment weakened law and order in the state and corruption dominated the recruitment process in the state. Under previous governments, recruitment was marred by bribery and bias, ruining the future of the youth,' he stressed. 'Post-2017, police recruitment reflects transparency and public trust, not just numbers,' he added. He recalled how past practices led to riots, terrorist attacks and a climate of fear, citing incidents in Ayodhya, Kashi, Lucknow and Rampur. He personally handed over letters to several recruits during the event at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan. 'After the double-engine government came to power in 2017, the first major step was to make the recruitment process transparent and fair. The Police Recruitment Board was strengthened as part of this effort. As a result, Uttar Pradesh now ranks first in the country for police recruitment and providing government jobs,' he added. The CM added that transparency in recruitment also boosted investments, creating local employment opportunities for nearly 2 crore youth in their own districts. With support from outsourcing, technology, and policy-making, Uttar Pradesh has now emerged as one of India's fastest-growing economies, he said. He also highlighted that when the first recruitment was conducted in 2017-18, the state had very limited training capacity. Earlier, only around 3,000 police personnel could be trained, but now training arrangements for 60,244 recruits are being managed within UP Police's own training institutes. In the past eight years, police lines, headquarters, and residential facilities in Uttar Pradesh expanded rapidly, he said. The long-pending police commissionerate system, pending since 1971-72, was implemented by the double-engine government and seven new commissionerates have been created so far, improving both modern policing and accountability, he asserted. The chief minister said that UP Police at present has become a model force, symbolising a riot-free, law-abiding and safe state. He highlighted the Mahakumbh as an example of the police force's dedication and sensitivity, where their commitment and conduct ensured the event's success. He reminded the police that people notice not just their work, but also their behaviour. To ensure women's participation, 20% reservation has been implemented in the police force. Out of 1,494 candidates selected for the telecom department, around 300 are women, and this number will increase further in the future. He further said, '20% reservation will be given to Agniveer recruits in the Uttar Pradesh Police. This decision will allow trained and disciplined youth to join the police force.' Praising the telecom department's excellent work during the Mahakumbh, he said communication is the backbone of any police force. The CM said that as India moves towards becoming the world's third-largest economy in the Amrit Kaal of independence, the police must be both sensitive and strict. Uttar Pradesh finance and parliamentary affairs minister Suresh Khanna, principal secretary (Home) Sanjay Prasad, DGP Rajeev Krishna, DG Telecom Ashutosh Pandey, DG Recruitment Board S.D. Shirodkar and DG PHQ Anand Swaroop were present on the occasion.
