By far the most popular pet in the UK, they make for wonderful companions, all the while improving both our mental and physical health.
The army of dog owners continues to grow, with 221 different breeds of pedigree dog to choose from, alongside numerous crossbreeds .
Choosing the right breed is absolutely essential – for example opting for a small dog if you don't have much room at home, or a hypoallergenic dog if you suffer from allergies.
Of course there's also the practicalities of affordability, with different breeds commanding very difference prices - and upkeep costs like insurance.
Getting insurance for your dog is crucial if you don't want to face astronomical vet bills should your pet fall ill.
A new study by pet insurance comparison website Pet Insurance Deals used data from Animal Friends to determine which dog breeds command the highest and lowest insurance premiums across more than 150 recognised breeds.
Here are the 10 breeds of dog that will see you paying the lowest monthly insurance premiums.
1 . Lhasa Apso

2 . Parson Russell Terrier
The Parson Russell Terrier also costs an average of just £4.85 per month to insure - that's £11.18 less than the most expensive dog to insure, the Flat-Coated Retriever. Starting from humble beginnings in the Bundesliga with Augsburg and Mainz, Tuchel has gone on to manage some of Europe's biggest clubs. Despite these roles not always going smoothly, the compensation he has received will likely have eased the pain of any departures. Finance Monthly recently estimated the seasoned coach is worth approximately £37million as of this year. However, it's evident he accepted the England job at least in part due to his passion for the game given it meant taking a substantial pay cut. The same cannot be said for the end of his tenure at Chelsea, who reportedly paid out £13m to remove him from their payroll in September 2022. Despite securing the Champions League title with the Blues less than 18 months earlier, his exit from Stamford Bridge was rather untidy, resulting in the significant pay-off. Tuchel also spent two-and-a-half years at the helm at Parc des Princes, where his annual income was believed to be £6m. Each of these amounts are subject to tax and fees in their respective jurisdictions, but it all adds up to one strategist who is certainly not short a bob or two. Why did Thomas Tuchel get a divorce? In April 2022, it was revealed that after 13 years of marriage, Tuchel and ex-wife Sissi had parted ways. It's understood the coach's constant travelling played a significant role in their separation as his work took him to France and England. Sissi, a former journalist the German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung, married Tuchel in 2009 and the pair share two daughters together, Emma and Kim. An insider revealed to the Mail on Sunday in 2022 that, despite efforts to keep together, Tuchel and Sissi reached the point where separation appeared to be the only solution. The research, which was undertaken by estate agent comparison site looked at where the highest proportion of retirement properties for sale were, as well as the ratio of homes to stock sold. Discussing the spot further, Rest Less dubbed it a "cosmopolitan town" with "plenty going for it." With dozens of historic sites, museums and attractions, as well as the world's largest arts festival, the city is sure to keep those in their golden years busy. However, it was noted that these "attractive points" mean house prices here are much higher than the Scottish average, standing at around £338,307. House prices here average at around £229,959, according to the site, and while the city has had a reputation for being "rather gritty" in the past, it is now undeniably a "national hub of culture". The city is home to the Scottish Opera, Scottish Ballet and National Theatre of Scotland, ensuring there is plenty to go and see. Last year, Glasgow was named one of the best cities to retire to because of "key factors" like its cost of living and the amenities on offer. Using these metrics, each location listed by Moneypenny was given a score. It ranked well for its cost of living as well as the number of cafes and golf clubs around the city. The Scottish location was also praised for its great number of fitness clubs and green spaces.
