World Social Media Day 2025: Top 5 Games That Are Social Media-Approved

Hans India28-06-2025
'Is it even social media-approved?' That's the question we all ask these days before trying anything new, whether it's a restaurant, a movie or even a new outfit. Social Media's got this crazy power to shape what's hot and what's not. As we roll into World Social Media Day on June 30th, it's the perfect time to check out how it's totally transformed gaming, especially for classic games that have been around forever.
These old-school favorites aren't just going digital; they're getting a full-on revival thanks to platforms like Snapchat, Instagram, and more. Social media has turned them into a global hangout spot where players swap strategies, show off wins, etc. So, let's take a look at the top five games that are absolutely crushing it online this World Social Media Day.
1. Ludo on Zupee: The Cult Classic Goes Viral
Ludo's that game you've played at every family gathering but the digital versions on online skill-based platforms like Zupee have kicked it up a notch. It keeps all the nostalgia while adding slick features that reward skill over chance. Matches zip by in 8-10 minutes - perfect for a quick break - and the vibrant interface is made for sharing. Users are all over social media, posting their winning streaks, funny moments and clever moves. It's Ludo, but make it 2025, and the online buzz is unreal.
2. Sudoku: The Brain Teaser That's Still a Hit
Sudoku's come a long way from newspaper grids, now it's got millions of mobile players hooked. No pens, no paper, just endless puzzles right on your phone. Social media has been a real game-changer here (pun intended). People love sharing their solving tricks, completed puzzles, and hot tips. The clean, simple app designs make it super shareable, whether you're bragging about a tough win or dropping a mini tutorial. It's brainy fun that's never out of style.
3. Carrom: From South Asia to the World
Was there ever a summer vacation that went by without a game of Carrom? The beloved South Asian classic is making rounds across the globe now, thanks to the growing popularity of its digitized versions over social media. What started as simple videos of millennials enjoying their favourite childhood game on their smartphones and laptops, soon catapulted the game to become a global fad. The thrill of bagging the 'Queen' was, and still is, unmatched!
4. Checkers: Simple, Fun, and Totally Shareable
Checkers proves you don't need fancy rules to make a splash. Online, it's all about flexibility. Play real-time or take turns whenever you've got a minute. That ease makes it a social media star, with players posting about rivalries, strategies and quick wins. Mobile apps let you challenge friends or strangers with a tap and its straightforward vibe is perfect for a fast, fun share. Classic? Yes. Boring? Never.
5. Chess: Mad Skills Meet Mad Thrill
For the brainiacs around the world, there's probably no game better than chess. From Indian origins to Russian dominance and being used as a tool to assert dominance during the Cold War - the game has seen it all. The traditional version of the board game had its limitations - it required two players, seated across from each other, for matches that could last hours, if not days. Modern, digitized chess does away with these challenges. You can play from anywhere, at any time, which is what made the digital versions an instant hit. Social media took the craze further, with players uploading videos on YouTube and Instagram, and even live streaming the matches.
Why These Games Are Taking Over Social Media
Wondering what's the deal? It's all about nostalgia, easy access, and that community feel. and Instagram's visual vibes make these games perfect for sharing gameplay clips, strategy breakdowns and player connections. This World Social Media Day, it's clear these classics aren't just surviving; they're thriving with the advent of online skill-based platforms like Zupee, and social media is the stage they were born to shine on.

LinkedIn launches new casual game for its users; company executive says: ‘We don't want to have…'

LinkedIn has launched a new, casual game, Mini Sudoku, for its 1.2 billion users. The Microsoft-owned professional networking site's latest addition is a scaled-down version of the classic puzzle, designed to be completed in just two or three minutes. This is the sixth game to be introduced on the platform. The new Mini Sudoku aims to spark friendly competition among colleagues and friends, with puzzles getting progressively more difficult throughout the week. What the company said about the new Mini Sudoku game In an interview with CNBC, Lakshman Somasundaram , a senior director of product at the company said: 'We don't want to have a puzzle on LinkedIn that takes 20 minutes to solve, right? We're not games for games' sake.' LinkedIn's creation of the game stemmed from a meeting with Japanese publisher Nikoli , known for popularising Sudoku. Last year, Somasundaram and a group of LinkedIn associate product managers visited Nikoli's Tokyo headquarters, where they discussed puzzles with the publisher's employees through a translator. This meeting led to weeks of collaboration between LinkedIn, Nikoli, and Thomas Snyder , a three-time World Sudoku Championship winner who has been advising LinkedIn on its gaming strategy. The team aimed to make Sudoku more approachable, experimenting with several prototypes before deciding on a board featuring six rows and six columns. 'It's very easy to just make a Sudoku grid. It's very hard to make art in the form of Sudoku. And that's what both Nikoli and we do. I think it's got the potential to be the largest of the games, just because it's going to have a lot of brand awareness from moment one,' Snyder noted. Snyder, who is the founder and CEO of Grandmaster Puzzles, a publisher of Sudoku books, holds a PhD in chemistry and is known as Dr Sudoku. He has worked on the hint feature for LinkedIn's Mini Sudoku and created some of the puzzles. Each day's puzzle will be accompanied by a video of Snyder demonstrating his solving process. However, this is not the first game LinkedIn has introduced. The platform added games last year to bring a sense of fun and offer users fresh ways to engage with each other. According to a company spokesperson, millions of people play LinkedIn's games daily, with peak activity at 7 AM ET (4.30 PM IST) and Gen Z make up the largest share of players. Among the ones who play on a given day, 86% return the next day, and 82% are still playing a week later. UBON SP-85: Portable Party Speaker On A Budget AI Masterclass for Students. Aditya Roy Kapur Says He Doesn't Read Online Buzz About Him: ‘Ignorance Is Bliss'

Aditya Roy Kapur admits his looks overshadow his work but trusts consistent roles will prove his talent. Aditya Roy Kapur has always chosen diverse roles in his career. From the romantic drama Aashiqui 2 and action-packed Malang to his layered performance in The Night Manager and his recent outing in Metro… In Dino, the actor has consistently worked across genres. Yet, despite this body of work, the conversation around him often seems dominated by his physical appearance rather than his acting skills. The actor admits this observation isn't entirely wrong. 'I guess I do get that," he told the Hindustan Times when asked whether his looks overshadow his performances. However, he doesn't dwell on it. 'I don't try and think about that or lose too much sleep over it. Eventually, water finds its level, and the more work you do, that'll come to the fore." Aditya Roy Kapur On Getting Attention For His Looks Instead of allowing this perception to frustrate him, Aditya consciously chooses to see the silver lining. He believes that if people are praising something about him, even if it's just his appearance, it's still better than being on the receiving end of negativity. 'Eventually the work speaks for itself," he shared, emphasising that over time, consistent performances will make people recognise an actor's worth. The Ludo actor admits he doesn't disagree with the idea that his looks often get more attention, but says, 'I don't fixate on it or allow myself to get cynical or negative about it." This, he feels, keeps him grounded and focused on the bigger picture. Social Media Isn't His Focus The entertainment industry has undergone a seismic shift with the rise of social media. Aditya acknowledges that things are very different from when he first started. 'Things have changed a lot actually in the last 10-15 years," he said, adding that social media has become an inseparable part of the profession. Still, he admits he's 'an amateur" at navigating it and prefers to keep a healthy distance. 'A lot of it is just about disconnecting from a lot of the noise," he explained. Aditya avoids reading too much about himself online, believing that sometimes 'ignorance is bliss." For him, mental clarity is about controlling what you consume. 'You can choose how much you want to clutter your head or declutter your head," he said, stressing the importance of knowing what information benefits you and what doesn't. For Aditya, the real magic lies away from the glitz and chatter of social media. 'As an actor, the part of the job that I love the most is collaborating on set, working on my character, or just being on set and doing that work," he revealed. That core experience is what drives him, while the rest of the industry's noise is something he tries to simplify in his mind by disconnecting when necessary. Balancing The Big Screen And OTT Aditya's career today straddles both traditional cinema and digital streaming platforms. While Aashiqui 2 cemented him as a romantic hero and Malang showcased his action chops, The Night Manager allowed him to shine in the digital space with a performance that earned widespread praise. His recent appearance in Metro… In Dino is another step in a journey that blends mainstream appeal with nuanced roles. Whether on the big screen or a streaming platform, Aditya aims for one thing: to let his work speak louder than any label or public perception.
