Apple Program Empower 196 Female Graduates at Tuwaiq Academy
Tuwaiq Academy announced the graduation of 196 female students from the Apple Developer Academy in Riyadh. The event marked the fourth cohort of graduates since the academy's launch.
The ceremony was held in the presence of Abdulaziz Alhammadi, CEO of Tuwaiq Academy, and Ohood Al-Nayel, Director of the Apple Developer Academy. Other notable attendees included Sadia Atcha, Region Lead of Apple Content Services for the Middle East, Türkiye, and Africa, and Zeina Hatem, Regional Leader of Apple in the Middle East and Africa. Leaders from the technology and education sectors also attended the event.
Tuwaiq Academy reported that the students completed a nine-month academic journey. The program included specialized training in app development, design, and entrepreneurship. It also focused on building leadership, creativity, and innovation.
According to the academy, the curriculum encouraged self-directed learning and teamwork. Students developed app solutions for various sectors, aiming to serve different segments of society.
During the event, Ohood Al-Nayel stated that the graduation reflects national support for the technology sector. She credited Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for driving digital progress in the Kingdom. Abdulaziz Alshamadi praised the academy's collaboration with Apple, calling it essential for shaping future business leaders in Saudi Arabia.
Al-Nayel also highlighted the graduates' ability to turn ideas into functional apps. She emphasized their achievements in creativity and collaboration.
Susan Prescott, Apple's VP of Worldwide Developer Relations, said the graduates are shaping entrepreneurship in their communities. She noted Apple's pride in supporting their journey in tech.

UAE-backed GlobalFoundries expands partnership with Apple
US-based semiconductor manufacturer GlobalFoundries, owned by Abu Dhabi's sovereign fund Mubadala Investment Company, and Apple have deepened their partnership as part of the global tech giant's pledge to invest in US manufacturing. The announcement comes after Apple on Wednesday said it intends to invest an additional $100 billion in the US, bringing its total investment commitment to $600 billion in the next four years. In its pledge, Apple also announced the American Manufacturing Programme to boost its supply chain and help move advanced manufacturing to the US. GlobalFoundries is among the first partners in the programme that also include Texas Instruments, Samsung and Broadcom. 'This is part of our $600 billion commitment to the US over the next four years, and we couldn't be more excited about the future of American innovation,' Apple chief operating officer Sabih Khan said in a statement. Apple's investment announcement came after President Donald Trump had threatened to impose tariffs on the company for manufacturing its flagship iPhones outside the US. During a call with analysts after reporting earnings last week, Apple chief executive Tim Cook said a 'vast majority' of its iPhones are made in India. Mr Trump doubled India's tariff rate to 50 per cent earlier on Wednesday. GlobalFoundries investments GlobalFoundries said its partnership with Apple will allow it to speed up investment at its facility in Malta, New York state. 'This is a testament to GF's technology differentiation, coupled with our unique secure and onshore capabilities, and the trust Apple has placed in GF to deliver and build the advanced chips that power its next-generation smart mobile technologies,' GlobalFoundries chief executive Tim Breen said in a statement. The UAE-backed company in June also teamed up with Apple, SpaceX, AMD, Qualcomm, NXP and General Motors as part of its plans to invest $16 billion to expand its semiconductor manufacturing and advanced packaging in New York and Vermont. GlobalFoundries said that investment commitment, which came after the US President's visit to the UAE, was the result of collaboration with the Trump administration and support from leading technology companies. The company on Wednesday said its partnership with Apple, as well as its $16 billion planned investment, is supported by the Trump administration's efforts to prioritise US leadership in artificial intelligence, including manufacturing semiconductors domestically.

US smartphone and technology behemoth Apple have announced a $100bn investment in US manufacturing, seen by many as a move designed to fend off potential tariffs from US President Donald Trump. The announcement was made during a press conference hosted by US President Donald Trump that was held yesterday at The White House. The investment increases Apple's initial commitment of $500bn in US manufacturing to $600bn over the next four years. Many analysts believe the fresh investment from Apple has been done to ring-fence any potential tariffs being imposed on the company by the Trump administration. Trump hailed the investment by Apple, which he sees as a big political win for him amongst his base of MAGA supporters. Trump said, 'This is the largest investment Apple has ever made in America and anywhere else.' The announcement also coincided with the launch of the American Manufacturing Program, which is dedicated to bringing a greater amount of Apple's supply chain to the US. The tech giant will also provide incentives for other companies to manufacture critical components domestically. Trump stated that it was his desire to see iPhones that are sold in America being made in America. 'Apple will massively increase spending on its domestic supply chain for the iPhone and will build the largest and most sophisticated smart glass production line in the world. This is a significant step toward the ultimate goal of ensuring that iPhones sold in the United States of America also are made in America with the mass infusion of capital it's announcing today.' During an earnings call last week, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that the company took a whopping $800m hit from tariffs in Q3, with that tally expected to rise to $1.1bn by the end of Q4. He admitted that the company will try to do more when it comes to the development of its supply chain domestically. Apple plans to build semiconductors across 12 US states in 24 factories. The meeting between Trump and Cook was very cordial, with the US President describing Apple's CEO as a genius and one of the most esteemed innovators in the world, but their relationship has been fractious at times. In May, Trump took to his Truth Social media platform to declare that he expects iPhones sold in the US to be manufactured domestically, warning that if Apple fails to do that then it will be hit with a 25% tariff. In addition to its investment plans for US manufacturing, Apple has also been proactive about moving more of its production out of China and into countries such as India. However, India is now in the crosshairs of Trump after its decision to purchase oil from Russia, with Trump slapping a 50% US tariff rate on goods coming from the country.
