Baked beans, a British kitchen staple, have become the centre of a lively Reddit debate on whether seasoning enhances this classic meal.
One Reddit user raised the question, "Do most British people season their baked beans?". This prompted over 3,000 comments as Brits shared their tips for sprucing up beans.
The individual who started the conversation added: "According to my boyfriend, you're only supposed to take them out of the tin into a bowl and microwave them, or to put them in a pot on the stove for like three minutes. The only allowed flavour is the tomato sauce they come with."

It turns out that smoked paprika emerged as a fan favourite for elevating beans to new culinary heights. A bean enthusiast on Reddit penned: "Try a bit of smoked paprika on baked beans. You're welcome."
Another chimed in: "Smoked paprika adds some smokiness that you would normally get with bacon," as noted by the Express.
Another also heralded the praises of smoked paprika: "Smoked paprika is a game-changer. It goes well with the flavours of baked beans."
Intrigued by these suggestions, Senior Lifestyle reporter Angela Patrone decided it was time to test the popular advice and break out the smoked paprika from her kitchen cupboard.
Angela shared her culinary experiment by stating: "Smoked paprika is one of those seasonings I love to add to my chicken or when I'm making homemade chips, but I never thought to add it to baked beans."
She detailed her process: "I started by adding the spice to the beans in a bowl. While it wasn't mentioned how much smoked paprika to use, I opted for one teaspoon."
Angela explained her time-saving method: "I usually heat my baked beans in a saucepan, however, I was short on time this day, so I used the microwave instead. I left the beans in the microwave for one minute before stirring them and putting them in for another minute."
Upon tasting the modification, Angela enthused: "Opening the microwave after the second minute was up, I could smell the delicious smoky scent. I served the beans on a slice of toasted sourdough bread."
She concluded with approval: "The seasoning offered a fantastic depth of flavour to the semi-sweet baked beans. I would say a teaspoon is just the right amount, as any more would probably overpower the baked beans."

Tackling global warming is key to keeping Dartmoor ‘special', says William

Restoring nature and tackling global warming are key to keeping Dartmoor 'special', the Prince of Wales has said ahead of his visit to the area. The Duchy of Cornwall and Central Dartmoor Landscape Recovery Project (CDLR) launched a new project to 'create a resilient environment' and meet the changing needs of Dartmoor's communities. William, the Duke of Cornwall, is visiting restored peatland there on Thursday as part of the 20-year plan for the duchy's Dartmoor estate. In a foreword to the Landscape Vision project, the Prince of Wales said: 'Dartmoor is a magnificent and complex ecosystem – the balance between nature and people has evolved for thousands of years to shape the landscape we recognise today. 'To keep Dartmoor special, we must respond to the twin challenges of global warming and the requirement to restore nature, while ensuring the communities on Dartmoor can thrive. 'The Dartmoor Vision shows us what might be possible and how that might be achieved. 'It is bold and ambitious and something that I hope, by working together, can be delivered for not just the current generation but for generations to come.' Researchers found the average number of frost days in Dartmoor is expected to halve over the next 40 years while the odds of a dry summer will rise by 30%, the Duchy of Cornwall said. It added that 2C of global warming could prevent Dartmoor being suitable for blanket peatland, which stores carbon and water and sustains biodiversity. The project will focus on 'coordinated public and private investment' to restore peatlands and upland mosaic habitats in the south Devon area. It is also seeking to create 'partnerships between landowners, farmers and wildlife teams' and foster 'collaboration and mutual respect in what has historically been a contested landscape'. The duchy said it will promote sustainable farming as well as initiatives to provide affordable housing for landscape managers and retiring workers. Around 35,000 people live in Dartmoor and more than two million people visit each year. Claire Hyne, project manager at CDLR, said: 'The Central Dartmoor Landscape Recovery Project plans to continue to work alongside the duchy, farmers and commoners to co-create integrated land management plans whilst identifying opportunities for green finance and funding to help sustain farm businesses, test new ideas and deliver positive environmental outcomes.' Matthew Morris, rural director at the Duchy of Cornwall, said they want to set up a 'shared and multifunctional approach to the way the land is farmed, managed, and used, and in doing so create a more resilient Dartmoor environment'. Mr Morris added: 'With the Dartmoor landscape increasingly vulnerable to climate change, the need to build resilience is clearer than ever.'

Groom's Parents Gave Couple Money for Their Wedding — Then Demanded It Back After Drama on the Big Day

A bride shared on Reddit that she recently got married and her in-laws demonstrated "hurtful" behavior on the big day When her husband later sent "a calm and respectful" message to his parents about what happened, they demanded that the couple return the $5,000 they were given toward their wedding expenses "It feels like they are using money to avoid taking responsibility for their behavior," the bride pointed outA new bride says her in-laws spoiled her wedding with their "hurtful" behavior — and when they got called out, they demanded that she and the groom return the money they were given. The bride shared her story in a post on Reddit's "Wedding Drama" forum, explaining that she and her husband recently got married and the day was "beautiful and full of love." However, instead of basking in the warm memories, she said she "can't stop thinking about how my husband's parents behaved, especially my [mother-in-law]." She went on to recount some of the frustrating things that happened with the groom's parents. On the morning of the wedding, her mother-in-law was supposed to join the bride, along with her mom, grandmother and bridal party, at 9 a.m. to get ready as a group. "At 9:01 a.m., she texted and said she had decided not to come early after all. Instead, she would show up at 2:00 p.m. with my [father-in-law]," the OP (original poster) said, noting, "I had already paid for her hair and makeup, so her last-minute cancellation left me out about $250." The OP said that while her mother-in-law's no-show was "disappointing," she was more hurt by the fact that the woman "did not say a single word" to her during the wedding. "No congratulations, no acknowledgment, not even a hello," she wrote. The mother-in-law caused further trouble when she and the groom's father, after previously agreeing to smoke only in the designated area at the venue, "disregarded" the rules multiple times. "The venue staff had to ask them repeatedly to stop smoking near the building," the OP said. Then, as the wedding reception was carrying on, the in-laws left early without saying goodbye to their son and daughter-in-law. Baffled and hurt by his parents' behavior, the groom later sent them "a calm and respectful" message expressing why their actions had been disappointing. He and the OP were taken aback by their reply. Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. "Rather than acknowledging anything or being open to a conversation, they responded by demanding that we return the $5,000 they had given us toward the wedding," the OP wrote. "This money was given as a gift. We never asked for it, and there were no conditions attached at the time," she continued. "Now it feels like they are using money to avoid taking responsibility for their behavior." The OP concluded her post by asking fellow Redditors if they've "dealt with something similar," while noting, "[My in-laws'] actions have made it difficult to imagine how we move forward from here." Some readers were quick to urge the bride to keep the money and shrug off the drama from her in-laws. "It was a gift. Do not return it," one person wrote, while another said, "Nope! It's yours now." Others, however, felt the couple should give back the money so the in-laws wouldn't have anything to "hold over" them. "Send it back so that the ledger is clear," one commenter advised. "They paid nothing for your wedding; they have nothing to hold over you now or ever. Then you can move on with your marriage and ignore them." One reader told the OP that she should take a step back and let her husband manage his own parents. "This is a situation where your husband must have a sit-down discussion with them. He needs to get them to tell him what the problem is," they wrote. "This is not about the money. They are just using it as a weapon against you for whatever has gotten them upset." "Don't wait. The longer they have to stew about whatever it is, the harder it will be to resolve it," they added. Read the original article on People
