Most of these infants were born on May 9 and 10 during the Operation Sindoor against Pakistan as India's strong reply to the Pahalgam terror attack."My baby was born on May 9, two days after our brave soldiers avenged the Pahalgam attack. While I empathise with the pain of the bereaved families, I also wish to thank the brave soldiers who guard our borders. So, I have named my daughter 'Sindoor' as a tribute to them," Neha Gupta told TOI.This also has broken the tradition for many Hindu families in this eastern UP district where newborns are named by their paternal aunt.'Sindoor' (vermilion), applied by married Hindu women, has become a mark of solidarity for women who lost their husbands in the Pahalgam attack.Dr RK Shahi, principal of Government Medical College (Autonomous) in Kushinagar, confirmed to TOI that 17 babies born in the hospital have been named 'Sindoor'."Sindoor has become a symbol of sacrifice and national unity after India's counter-terror operation in Pakistan," he said, adding that he was also overwhelmed to see how people celebrate their love for the nation.Social activist Rajesh Mani said that the trend is an example of 'collective emotion and shared feeling of pride'."A good number of families in Kushinagar and some other districts of eastern UP have a family member serving in the Army. Maybe the nationalist sentiments owe their genesis to this connection. Nonetheless, one can hope that these babies grow up into strong women willing to serve the nation in uniform.""Even before the birth of my baby, I decided that Sindoor will be his/her name as it now stands for courage and resilience," said Archana Shahi of Bhedihari village, holding her newborn daughter. Her husband Ajit added that the name is a tribute to the soldiers who restored national pride . "We are safe here because of the soldiers, this is the least we could do to show our respect," he said.

The Thai authorities announced the move following the killing of a Cambodian soldier during a brief military clash on May 28 in an area known as the Emerald Triangle. What makes the region significant is that here is where the borders of Thailand, Cambodia and Laos meet. It is important to note that Thailand and Cambodia share an 817 kilometre (508 mile) border, first mapped by France in 1907 when Cambodia was its colony. For decades, the two Asian neighbours have disputed various undemarcated points along the frontier. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The full-scale fighting between the two nations first broke out in 2008. Interestingly, the fight was over an 11th-century Hindu temple, and the clashes ultimately led to sporadic violence over several years. In 2013, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled that the disputed area belonged to Cambodia. However, Thailand says it does not accept the ICJ's jurisdiction and seeks a bilateral settlement. What is Thailand's take on the matter? In a statement on Saturday, authorities in the eastern province of Chanthaburi said that they had 'temporarily suspended' crossings by Thai and Cambodian tourists at two permanent border checkpoints. Soon after this, the Royal Thai Army cited a threat to Thailand's 'sovereignty and security' as the reason behind the move. The army made it clear that trade would be unaffected, and Cambodian workers could still be allowed to enter Thailand. Apart from this, six other border checkpoints tightened their opening hours and issued bans on six-wheeled vehicles. In a separate statement, Thai Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai said the army had reinforced its military presence at the border in light of increasing deployment on the other side of the border. 'There has been a reinforcement of military presence [by Cambodia], which has exacerbated tensions along the border,' Phumtham, who is also deputy prime minister, said in a statement. 'Consequently, the Royal Thai Government has deemed it necessary to implement additional measures and to reinforce our military posture accordingly,' he added. On Friday, Thailand's army made it clear that it is ready to launch a 'high-level operation' to counter any violation of Thailand's sovereignty. The Thai Foreign Ministry later said on Saturday that the country was committed to holding bilateral talks with Cambodia on June 14 to resolve the dispute. What has Cambodia said? Meanwhile, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said in an address on Saturday that his country's stance was 'not to initiate conflict, but to defend ourselves.' Earlier this week, Hun said that the kingdom would file a complaint with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over the border dispute. As of now, the two neighbours had agreed to ease tensions following last month's killing, but Cambodia eventually said that it would keep its troops in the area, in defiance of a request by Bangkok. Earlier, Sulochana Shetty, mother of slain activist had also urged the state government to transfer the investigation of her son's murder case to the the probe agency. Sulochana had expressed concern about the state government's handling of her son's murder investigation, and had claimed that authorities were impeding a thorough inquiry into the case. 'We seek justice for Suhas. A group of over 50 individuals subjected my son to torture before taking his life. Both home minister G Parameshwara and district minister Dinesh Gundu Rao wrongly labelled my son Suhas as a rowdy.I clarify that Suhas was not a rowdy, but worked with Bajrang Dal. Only an NIA investigation can ensure we receive proper justice," she had said. Suhas Shetty Murder Suhas Shetty, a known rowdy sheeter and Hindutva activist, was murdered by an unidentified group on May 1 within the Bajpe police station limits in Mangaluru. He was attacked at around 8:30 pm while he was traveling with five of his associates when their vehicle was intercepted near Kinnipadavu Cross by the attackers. The attackers, around six people, were traveling in a Swift car and a pickup truck. They reportedly attacked Shetty and his group, assaulting him with deadly weapons causing serious injuries. Shetty was the main accused in the high-profile 2022 murder of Mohammed Fazil. Mohammed Fazil was killed by four masked men on July 28, 2022, with Shetty being the prime accused in the case. The then Basvraj Bommai-led BJP government had not granted any compensation to the deceased family. However, the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government had granted a compensation of Rs 25 lakh to Fazil's family in 2023, something that was also offered to three other families that saw members lose lives to communal murders. Did Pakistan hit Adampur, Bhuj air bases during Operation Sindoor? Satellite images show otherwise
In the wake of Operation Sindoor, Pakistan has been projecting a narrative of wins against India, with new reports adding that Islamabad hit the Adampur air base in Punjab and damaged a Sukhoi-30 MKI parked there. Top Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) imagery analyst Damien Symon has debunked the claim, pointing out that Pakistan used a pre-conflict photograph to push its narrative. Symon posted the image used by Pakistan to claim a hit on Adampur air base in a post on the social media platform X. The image used to support the claim purportedly shows a jet near what Pakistan claims to be a burn mark. But according to Symon, it was taken in March of this year, much before India's Operation Sindoor. 'New report alleges a direct hit at India's Adampur Air Base by Pakistan damaged a Su-30, however a review reveals this image taken in March 2025, pre-conflict actually shows a MiG-29 undergoing maintenance, the dark soot near the engine test pad is routine, not battle damage,' the post read. Pakistan not only falsely claimed to hit the Adampur air base, but it also made a similar claim for the Bhuj air base in Gujarat. There, Islamabad claims to have destroyed an S-400 radar. Damien Symon debunked that claim, too, pointing out that what Islamabad claims to be marks of destruction are actually likely to be just oil stains in the air base's service yard. This image also predates Operation Sindoor and the India-Pakistan conflict. 'An image is being circulated now as a Pakistan destroyed S-400 radar in India, a review however indicates it's likely just oil stains at Bhuj military base's vehicle service yard, also the image predates the recent Indo-Pak conflict as it was taken in February 2025,' Symon's post read. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror infrastructure at nine locations in PoK and Pakistan's Punjab province. The operation was in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists, in Jammu and Kashmir's resort town. The operation prompted a confrontation with Pakistan for the next four days, with India hitting multiple military targets while defending its own. The conflict subsided after a ceasefire understanding was reached between the neighbours on May 10.
