Changur Baba, His Girlfriend Nasreen, Sent To UP ATS Custody In Conversion Racket Case

Jamaluddin alias Changur Baba, who is accused of running a major religious conversion racket, was sent to the 7-day ATS police custody, officials said on Thursday.
His alleged girlfriend Neetu, also known as Nasreen who allegedly played a key role in the racket, was also sent to police custody by the NIA court.
The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad will have the custody of both of them from July 10 to 16, during which the ATS will grill the duo and gather information about their wider gang network operation across the country.
The police will also take action against Changur Baba under the Gangster Act, which includes the seizure of his properties.
The Balrampur Police are cooperating with agencies in the arrest of named and other accused individuals
Earlier, the UP Police intensified their crackdown on the accused and demolished parts of his 70-room mansion in Balrampur. On Tuesday, the authorities brought down 20 rooms and a 40-foot-long hall. The operation resumed the next day. The administration has declared a 40-room section of the mansion illegal.
The UP ATS arrested Baba and his alleged girlfriend from a hotel in Lucknow. The duo was staying together in Room No. 102 of Star Rooms Hotel in Vikas Nagar of the city for the last 70 days. The police probe revealed that the room was initially booked on April 16 for four days using their Aadhaar cards; however, it later became a hub for continued conversion activities.
The investigation found that Neetu comes from a middle-class Sindhi family in Balrampur and studied only up to Class 7. In 2015, she went to Dubai with her husband, Naveen Ghanshyam Rohra. Reports say that during this trip, both of them converted to Islam — Neetu changed her name to Nasreen, and Naveen became Jamaluddin. Later, in 2021, Naveen's entire family also converted to Islam.
They also submitted an affidavit in the Utraula Civil Court in Balrampur, declaring Changur Baba as their spiritual leader.
Neetu soon became a close aide of Changur Baba and was reportedly involved in a network that focused on religious conversions. Investigators say she used to befriend poor Hindu families, especially young girls, by offering help and talking about supposed 'miracles' done by Changur Baba.
She would often share how her life changed after converting and promised money or medical help to attract people. Once they agreed, she would introduce them to Changur Baba and help with the conversion process.

Man held for communally sensitive post on WA
Mangaluru: Surathkal police arrested a man for allegedly spreading communally sensitive and false messages about a local resident across multiple WhatsApp groups. The accused has been identified as Ram Prasad alias Pocha,42, a resident of Kulai, Mangaluru. Mangaluru City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH said a complaint was filed by Rajesh, a resident of Kulai. In his complaint, he alleged that malicious and fabricated messages targeting him were being circulated on social media with the intent to incite communal hatred. The accused allegedly spread claims that the complainant was involved in the religious conversion of over 20 Hindu women, selling obscene content, and converting female employees at his office. Further, it was alleged that preperations were on to get a 24-year-old Hindu married to the complainant's brother, and that she stopped following Hindu customs like applying vermilion or visiting temples, and instead began attending church prayers regularly. Based on the complaint, a case was registered at the Surathkal police station on July 13 under Sections 352, 353(1), and 353(2) of the BNS. A police team led by Surathkal inspector Pramod Kumar and sub-inspector Raghunath Naik, along with HC Annappa Vandse, traced and arrested Ram Prasad on Monday. During interrogation, the accused is said to have confessed to the offence. He was produced before the II JMFC court in Mangaluru, which remanded him in judicial custody. Another accused in the case, Lokesh Kodikere, was already arrested in an unrelated case registered at Padubidri police station, and is currently lodged in Udupi District Jail, Hiriyadka. He will be produced before the court through a body warrant, police said.

Bangladesh On Edge As Yunus Unleashes Unfettered Assault On Intellectuals, Critics Of Radical Islam- Analysis
That Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of Bangladesh's Interim Government, continues to be suspicious of the civil society in the country has been proven once again with the arrest of reputed fellow economist, 71-years-old Professor Abul Barkat. A former Chairman of Janata Bank, Barkat was arrested by the Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police in connection with a corruption case on July 10. His bail plea was rejected as Bangladesh's Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) said that Barkat, arrested in connection with a 297 crore Taka embezzlement case involving Annontex Group, might go into hiding or influence witnesses and disrupt the investigation, if granted bail. Barkat has been one of the few sincere advocates for minority rights in Bangladesh's history. Unlike many who only spoke about minority issues, he provided detailed research exposing the injustices faced by the minorities. Analysts reckon that this may be the reason behind the actions taken against him. In his publication titled 'Political Economy of KHAS Land in Bangladesh' published in January 2001, Barkat's research revealed how the Enemy Property Act was and is still used to seize properties of the minority Hindu population in the country. In his study 'The Political Economy of Agricultural, Land, and Water Reforms in Bangladesh', he further detailed that over 11.3 million Hindus were forced to leave the country from 1964 to 2013. He highlighted that on an average, as many as 2,30,612 Hindus left Bangladesh each year (632 daily) and, if the trend continues, the Hindu community in Bangladesh may disappear within the next two decades. Barkat has also been an unflinching critic of radical Islam and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI). He was arrested on the basis of a fabricated case filed with the ACC, now a blueprint of Pakistan's ISI. Notably, the research by Barkat found varying daily disappearance rates of Hindus during different periods: 1964–1971 (705 per day), 1971–1981 (521 per day), 1981–1991 (438 per day), 1991–2001 (767 per day) and 2001–2012 (674 per day). Barkat had alerted that there would be no Hindus in Bangladesh in the coming 30 years if the current level of exodus continued. The Bengali book by Abul Barkat on Political Economy of KHAS Lands in Bangladesh - 'Bangladeshe Khasjami-Jala: Daridra-Boishommyo Bemochener Rajnoitik Orthoniti' (The Khas Land in Bangladesh: Political Economy of Inequality and Poverty Alleviation) - published in March this year is a comprehensive research work on the subject. Besides Barkat, it has been authored by eminent economists like Sheikh Ali Ahmed, Faisal M Ahmed, and Muhammad Sazzadul Karim. The book attributes that today, around 4.5 million people in Bangladesh remain landless, often entrapped in poverty and social marginalisation. Though the government has introduced land distribution initiatives, complex legal frameworks and systemic corruption is causing much damage and delay. Now, identification and management of 'Khas Land' (Government Land) and water-bodies, distribution of the same to the landless and poor people, retention of such land and water-bodies by the landless, and pertinent rules and practices within the prevailing socio-politico context of Bangladesh constitute prime issues of agrarian reform. Sadly, 2.6 million acres of the original ownership of the Hindu community has been occupied by the rich segments of the Bangladeshi society who are an integral part of the power structure. Yunus is using the ACC to mount arrest on intellectuals, supporters of the Awami League, religious minorities and on common Bangladeshis. The desperate attempts seem similar to those made in the West Pakistan just before the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971. Yunus is deliberately doing this to keep himself at the frontline. He has a total control of the media and continues to engage in political repression by suppressing dissent. Yunus has now also figured out well how to control the masses. It is pertinent to point out that Barkat has repeatedly received death threats from extremist outfits since 2004 because of his research and writings on the economics of fundamentalism in Bangladesh. Deeply hurt and outraged, every conscientious citizen of Bangladesh fears that his arrest without a warrant is an attempt to enable those crimes to be carried out under state custody. Statistics reveal that 136 people have been murdered in Dhaka alone from January to April, this year. Nationwide, the number exceeds 1200. In contrast, during the same period, the murder count in Dhaka was 55 (2021), 54 (2022), 51 (2023) and 47 (2024). On July 10, the world witnessed the brutal murder of Lal Chand, a local businessman, with the perpetrators not only crushing his body and head with stones but also dancing on his corpse. Bangladeshis are fighting for survival in Yunus's totalitarian regime - this was certainly not the 'change' the student-led movement wanted for common people of the country with no past to mourn and no pride to defend. Barkat has been arrested by the Bangladesh authorities for speaking up for the minorities and exposing land grabs and attacks on Hindus by extremists. In today's Bangladesh, the illegitimate, unelected, non-transparent interim administration of Yunus - backed by the Pakistani and Chinese intelligence through the JeI - has made defending human rights a punishable offence.

Odisha Student Suicide: Principal Ignored Internal Committee's Sexual Harassment Report
Fakir Mohan College Principal Dillip Ghose is accused of having deliberately ignored the Internal Committee report based on a 22-year-old student's complaint of sexual harassment. Odisha Student Suicide: In a new twist in the case of an Odisha student, who died after self-immolating due to a lack of action on her sexual harassment complaint, it has now been revealed that the principal of her college had ignored a report which warned of inappropriate behaviour by the Head of Department (HoD). The 22-year-old student from Balasore, who studied at Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College, attempted self-immolation over inaction by the college administration on her sexual harassment complaint against the head of her department. She was admitted to AIIMS Delhi after being referred from the Balasore District Headquarters, but succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday. The principal of the college, Dillip Ghose, was arrested on Monday in connection with the case. According to reports, Ghose deliberately ignored a report by the college's Internal Complaint Committee (ICC), which conducted an inquiry after the student's complaint and found that the conduct of the HOD, Sameer Sahoo, was inappropriate. The committee had recommended Sahoo's immediate removal from the HoD position, suggesting that such action could have prevented the tragic outcome. The report was submitted to Ghose, but no action was taken. Instead, the principal allegedly tried to shield the accused and even attempted to reinstate him. would be forced to die by suicide if the college failed to respond to her plea for justice. Despite the gravity of the allegation and the student's desperate warning, no action was reportedly taken against the accused, and the student set herself on fire outside the principal's office. The inaction by college authorities raised serious questions on the principal's role in the case, as he allegedly influenced the investigation in favour of the accused. ICC member Minati Siri said that the victim would have been satisfied had proper action been taken.
