Dylan Harper's mom goes viral at 2025 NBA Draft after Spurs selection

The post Dylan Harper's mom goes viral at 2025 NBA Draft after Spurs selection appeared first on ClutchPoints. New San Antonio Spurs guard Dylan Harper had a night to remember at the 2025 NBA Draft, but it was his mom, Maria Harper, who unexpectedly became the star of the show. As the 19-year-old shooting guard made his way across the stage after being picked second overall by the San Antonio Spurs, the cameras zoomed in on his family—and social media exploded with excitement. Advertisement Fans took to platforms like X to express their admiration for Maria's grace and elegance during her son's big moment. The reactions were a wonderful blend of awe and appreciation, with many people declaring her the true star of the evening. Her appearance alongside Dylan and his brother, Ron Jr., during a live interview with ESPN's Monica McNutt only fueled the viral excitement. But beyond the fleeting fame, Maria Harper has been a cornerstone in Dylan's basketball journey. A former Division I player at the University of New Orleans, she shifted gears to coaching nearly thirty years ago. Maria wasn't just a coach; she was a constant source of support for Dylan, guiding him from first grade all the way through his senior year in high school. Advertisement Their strong connection was clear when she talked about his 'determination, hard work, and humility' during the ESPN interview. Dylan, who shone at Rutgers and followed in the footsteps of his father, five-time NBA champion Ron Harper, has made it clear in past interviews that his mom was his first and most significant coach. Interestingly, Ron Harper Sr. remained seated in the crowd while Maria took the spotlight with Dylan during the broadcast. This choice highlighted the family dynamic, with Dylan crediting his mom for pushing him to excel and keeping him grounded. Maria supported Dylan's development as a student-athlete and as a person in her role as a former athlete, coach, and mentor. Advertisement Now that Dylan is beginning a new journey with the NBA, he will always remember his draft night—not only because he was drafted by the Spurs, but because this was a truly special moment demonstrating the power of a parent's support. Padraig Harrington, Stewart Cink beat weather delay, tie for lead at 2025 U.S. Senior Open

The 45th U.S. Senior Open features a couple of familiar names tied atop the leaderboard as well as some familiar afternoon summer weather at the Broadmoor. Padraig Harrington, who opened his second round Friday with three birdies on his first four holes, went on to post a 3-under 67. Meanwhile, Stewart Cink shot 4-under 66. Those two are tied for the lead at 6 under overall in Colorado Springs, Colorado. For Harrington, it's his second straight 67. He was the 18-hole leader alongside Mark Hensby, but Hensby isn't scheduled to tee off for his second round till 1:43 p.m. local time (4:34 p.m. ET) on Friday. Harrington is the 2022 U.S. Senior Open champ. Cink is competing in this event for the first time. They were in the same threesome the first two days alongside Justin Leonard. Harrington even got a read from Cink on the par-5 ninth hole, where Harrington drained a long putt. "The one on 9, I got a lovely read off Stewart. I don't think I would have given it as much break, so that was nice," he said. "We're seeing that a lot lately, aren't we, people getting reads? That was advantageous. They're the breaks you get when things are going well." Soon after they finished, the U.S. Golf Association suspended play due to dangerous weather in the area. Fans were told to exit the grandstands and take shelter immediately. The horns just sounded, halting play in the second round of the U.S. Senior Open at The guess on how long the delay will last. Being in the early wave and beating the weather delay is a bonus, according to Harrington. "This is the advantage of having a late-early tee time. It gives you an extra, I probably got close to 24 hours before my next round, so it's time to rest and get your head in place because it's going to be a long weekend from now for sure," he said. "When you're at the top of the leaderboard all week, it's always a stressful week." The Broadmoor is hosting the Senior Open for a second time. Earlier in the week, the USGA awarded the venue two future Opens. A year ago, the Senior Open went to a Monday finish due to dangerous weather during the final round in Newport Country Club in Newport, Rhode Island. Defending tournament champion Richard Bland is not in the field, as his commitment to LIV Golf has him in Dallas this week.
