Wales U20s boss Richard Whiffin believes rising Ospreys star Morgan Morse will come back stronger after his shock omission from the summer tour to Japan.
Morse is one of the brightest backrow prospects in the British game, with many pundits expecting the Ospreys backrower to tour with Wales this summer. The 20-year-old also remains eligible to represent Wales U20s in the U20s World Cup later this month but instead will get the summer off.
"In terms of Morgan, he is being looked after," said Whiffin.
"He was in the selection mix for the senior squad and Matt Sherratt has gone down the route of picking incredible experience in terms of Taulupe Faletau and Aaron Wainwright with more than 150 caps. "In terms of the Welsh Rugby Union and Ospreys' point of view, we had the conversation last year in terms of that being his last Under-20s World Cup.
"It was his third and he was already competing well in terms of URC. We had committed to that plan.

"He will probably be at home frustrated, but he will come back rip-roaring."
Morse is a sensational talent with huge potential and it is only a matter of time before he breaks into the senior national squad.
The powerful backrower scored a long-range try from deep inside his own half for the Ospreys against Cardiff on New Year's Day 2024.

And Whiffin expects Morse to take the season by storm for the Ospreys in 2025/26.
"He will have a pre-season under his belt, which he has not had for the last three years, because he has been with us," said Whiffin.

"Everybody's development is different and he was an early developer.

"He will benefit from having a good rest period and pre-season with Ospreys and will push his international case even further next season."

The 48-year-old has joined Matt Sherratt's new-look backroom team for this summer's two-Test tour of Japan on secondment from Harlequins. Wilson is well acquainted with Welsh rugby having previously coached Wales U20s, the Dragons, Scarlets and Cardiff. The Welsh Rugby Union are currently searching for a new head coach after Warren Gatland's departure midway through the Six Nations, with Scotland defence coach Steve Tandy among the contenders. Wilson has been heavily linked with a permanent coaching role in Wales but the Harlequins boss poured cold water on such suggestions. He has worked with Sherratt previously when he was head coach of Cardiff but the tables have turned, with the Harlequins boss now working underneath his friend. "I was really excited to get the opportunity, Quins were brilliant to allow me to do it," said Wilson. Article continues below "It falls right in my break in terms of finishing with Harlequins and reviews. "It would be a pre-season break for me and us as a group. When I finish this project I get off a flight and back into work at Harlequins. "I first worked with Matt at Bristol and then having seen how good he was I was desperate to bring him to Cardiff. "Then we had a pretty good time together and then we went our separate ways into different projects after a pleasing end by winning a bit of silverware together with Cardiff. "We work well together and dovetail a fair amount, but we are responsible for different areas. I'm very respectful of who is in the head coaching role. "He was very supportive of me in our period together at Cardiff, and likewise with me now. "He's picked up some great experience here and put in some great foundations in a short space of time during the Six Nations." The Welsh rugby landscape has changed significantly since Wilson left Cardiff in 2018, with the men's national side having lost a record 17 Test matches on the bounce. The future of the four professional clubs is also up in the air, with the WRU considering cutting one if not two teams. But Wilson is adamant there is enough talent in Wales to drag themselves out of the hole they find themselves in. "I think of the 100-cappers that have left Wales or retired from international rugby," he said. "We've had the same at Harlequins that we've lost some key players for a number of reasons last year. "We made a commitment to a three-year project and this year we've blooded some youngsters. "You take a little bit of pain on the way but by blooding those youngsters and giving them the experiences that they need. "But you blood those youngsters, bring them through and give them the opportunities, I think you'll see the fruits of that long term. "I know at Harlequins we'll be better for doing that this year and other projects similar. "At Cardiff when we won some silverware, the Tomos Williams' and Jarrod Evans' who played in that final were young kids who we brought through the year before. "They took a bit of pain but that pain came to fruition in the future. "I think it's the same here at the moment. "A number of experienced 100-cap players have left. "What you want in an ideal system is a conveyor belt where the next group are ready and that's I think the project is at the moment is to get more of that group ready to not just play international Test match rugby but to win. "That's the key - it's to win. "I think that's partly what's happening at the moment." Wilson also believes the job of coaching Wales is an exciting one despite recent troubles. "I think there's an exciting project future-wise for whoever will come into that role as head coach," he said. "There's an amazing facility here and platform to build from. "There's an hour and 10 minutes from the Dragons to the Scarlets. "That's a huge advantage and I think using that advantage in Wales and bringing four regions together and aligning as much as possible has got to be the project for the future. Liverpool are set to complete their record-breaking deal for Florian Wirtz imminently, with the German international to complete a medical ahead of his move to the Premier League champions Florian Wirtz is spending some quality time with Jeremie Frimpong before the two officially become team-mates again. Frimpong has already made the switch from Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool, arriving in a deal worth £29.5million. Less than a month after that was confirmed, Wirtz will make the same journey and join the Premier League champions in what will be the blockbuster transfer of the summer. The German international is set for his medical with Arne Slot's side later this week after Liverpool finally reached an agreement to pay an initial £116m - potentially rising to £124.6m. Should those clauses be triggered, the deal will smash the existing British transfer record set when Moises Caicedo joined Chelsea for £115m in 2023. The formalities are still to be completed, with Wirtz expected to complete a medical on Friday before a formal announcement. But before he lands in Merseyside, Wirtz has shared a picture with Frimpong on a boat, basking in glorious sunshine with the full back sharing the post with the caption "my boy". Wirtz signing for Liverpool is a statement of intent for the Reds, who saw off competition from Bayern Munich to land Germany's hottest talent. He had been expected to remain in the Bundesliga and move to Munich, only to decide on a move to the Premier League instead. That decision hasn't gone down well back in Germany, with rivals of all-conquering Bayern even admitting they would have liked to see him stay. Frimpong has been recruited to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold who left for Real Madrid. And Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez is also expected to make the move to Anfield to take over from Andy Robertson, while a striker could also be signed to add to their attacking riches. "We just want good players and ideally you sign them as soon as you can,' Slot said before the summer window opened. But it's not always easy to sign good players, let alone to sign them early in the window. But this club doesn't start working from today onwards. "There is so much hard work being done behind the scenes already this season to find out which targets we have and try to sign them. I have all the confidence that if we've addressed the right player that we try to sign that player.' He added: "But let's see when that's going to happen and if that's going to happen because I'm very happy with the squad we already have. Radical changes you will probably not see because that would be a bit weird if you won the league.'
