Hunter Dobbins beats Yankees for second time this week as Red Sox top rival New York, 4-3

Hunter Dobbins pitched six shutout innings to beat the Yankees for the second time in a week, and the Boston Red Sox won their fourth straight game on Saturday night, 4-3 over New York.
A week after saying he'd rather retire than pitch for the Yankees because his father was drafted by New York twice before being traded - and then having to defend his dad's story midweek - Dobbins (4-1) struck out five and gave up two singles.
Dobbins earned the victory against the Yankees last Sunday, too, when he worked five innings and allowed three runs, two on a first-inning, two-run homer by Aaron Judge.
Judge went 0 for 4 with three strikeouts on Saturday, dropping his major league-leading average from .390 to .384.
Greg Weissert got the final three outs for his second save despite giving up a run. Austin Wells flew out to the track in center with two runners on.
Carlos Rodón (8-5), who entered 7-1 with a 1.90 ERA in his previous 10 starts, gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits in five-plus innings.
Boston grabbed a 1-0 lead on Anthony Volpe's throwing error in the first that allowed Rob Refsnyder to score on Carlos Narváez's infield hit. Trevor Story had an RBI double in the fourth and Romy Gonzalez added one in the fifth.
Jasson Domínguez and Wells had consecutive RBI singles in the seventh for the Yankees.
Key moment
The Yankees were down by two runs and had two runners on with Judge looming on deck in the seventh when Red Sox catcher Narváez, who had a walk-off hit in the series opener against his former team, picked Domínguez off second to end the inning.
Key stat
Boston has won four of five against the Yankees this season.
Up next
Yankees LHP Max Fried (9-1, 1.84 ERA) is slated to face Red Sox RHP Brayan Bello (2-1, 3.96) in the series finale on Sunday.

Phillies left-hander José Alvarado is reinstated following 80-game suspension for positive drug test

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia Phillies left-hander José Alvarado returned from his rehab assignment with Triple-A Lehigh Valley and was reinstated from the restricted list before Tuesday night's game against Seattle. Alvarado's return follows an 80-game suspension for violating baseball's performance-enhancing drugs policy. Alvarado is ineligible for the postseason, possibly impacting manager Rob Thomson's decision on who to use as closer in the final weeks of the regular season. Alvarado was 4-1 with seven saves and a 2.70 ERA before being placed on the restricted list by Major League Baseball on May 18. Among other closer options in a deep bullpen are Jhoan Duran and Jordan Romano and set-up men Orion Kerkering and Matt Strahm. Alvarado, 30, has 52 career saves, including a career-high 13 in 2024. At the time of Alvarado's suspension, Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said the positive test was caused by a weight loss drug Alvarado took during the offseason. 'It's not something he did knowingly,' Dombrowski said. 'I believe that, the way he talked to me.' Alvarado allowed no runs in five rehab appearances with Lehigh Valley. He allowed four hits, struck out four batters and issued four walks across five innings. To make room on the 26-man roster, right-hander Nolan Hoffman was optioned to Lehigh Valley. Left-hander Josh Walker was designated for assignment to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. Alvarado was the second player suspended this year under the big league testing program after Atlanta outfielder Jurickson Profar. ___ AP MLB:

The Rams signed offensive lineman Mike McAllister to a one-year deal, the team announced Tuesday. The Rams also announced they waived wide receiver Mario Williams with an injury designation and placed outside linebacker Keir Thomas II on injured reserve. McAllister returns to the Rams after spending time on their offseason and practice squad rosters in 2023 and 2024. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2023. McAllister has never played in a regular-season game. He played five seasons at Youngstown State, appearing in 30 games for the Penguins with all 17 starts coming at center.
