Cops urge those with info on missing UK national to come forward
In a statement Tuesday (June 3), Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said that the police had received a missing person report on the disappearance on Monday (June 2).

The UK's Daily Mail reported that the 25-year-old software engineer was last seen in Healy Mac's Irish Bar in Bangsar at 8pm on May 27 when he sent his best friend Owen a photograph of the outlet's quiz night poster.
'Those with information are urged to contact their nearest police station or Pantai police station chief ASP Khairul Nizam Ramle at 014-700 0672,' he said, adding that he urged the public to not speculate on the matter as well.

UK arrests 280 in crackdown on illegal delivery riders
LONDON: British authorities arrested almost one in five people they checked in a week-long crackdown on migrants working illegally as delivery riders last month, the government's interior ministry said on Saturday. Immigration enforcement officers stopped and questioned 1,780 individuals between July 20 and 27 and 280 people were arrested, the interior ministry said, adding asylum support was being reviewed for 53 of those detained. The operation was part of a push by the government to tackle illegal migration which also includes new legal requirements for companies to verify workers' immigration status. As well as the arrests, civil penalty notices were issued to 51 businesses, including car washes and restaurants, which could face fines for employing illegal workers, the ministry said. Police seized 71 vehicles, including 58 e-bikes, and confiscated 8,000 pounds (US$10,751.20) in cash and 460,000 pounds worth of illicit cigarettes. The interior ministry said immigration enforcement teams would receive a 5 million-pound funding boost for the work tackling illegal working. Last month, the government struck a new deal with food delivery firms, including Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat, to share information aimed at preventing illegal working. In the 12 months to July, Britain returned 35,052 people with no right to remain, up 13 per cent on the previous 12 months. France this week agreed to accept some undocumented migrants who arrive in Britain by small boats with Britain accepting from France an equal number of legitimate asylum seekers with family ties in the country.

Villarreal sign former Arsenal midfielder Partey
LONDON: Villarreal have signed Ghana international Thomas Partey on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract with Arsenal, the LaLiga club said yesterday. The 32-year-old defensive midfielder has agreed a season-long deal and will join the Villarreal squad in training on Friday. Partey was charged last month with raping two women while he was a player for the Premier League club. He is accused of five counts of rape relating to two women, plus a charge of sexual assault against a third woman, between April 2021 and June 2022. "The club is aware that the player is currently involved in legal proceedings in England. The player vehemently defends his innocence and denies all charges against him," Villarreal said in a statement. "The club respects his presumption of innocence as a fundamental principle and is awaiting the verdict of the courts, which will be responsible for clarifying the facts of the case. In accordance with British law regarding ongoing proceedings, the club will not comment further on this matter." Partey made 167 appearances for Arsenal, scoring nine goals after joining from Atletico Madrid in 2020.
