Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the items were seized in raids conducted by the Brickfields Criminal Investigation Department and Commercial Crime Investigation Department from 2017 until this year. 'A total of 138 investigation papers were opened, involving offences such as vice-related activities at massage parlours, illegal gambling and entertainment outlets,' he told reporters at a disposal ceremony here yesterday. ACP Ku Mashariman said the items were disposed of in accordance with legal procedures following the conclusion of trials and sentencing of the suspects. 'This process not only ensures compliance with the law but also helps free up storage space and prevents theft or misuse of case items,' he added. 'One of the major cases involved the seizure of US$400,000 (RM1.6mil) in counterfeit US currency,' ACP Ku Mashariman said. 'We busted a group of foreign nationals last year who attempted to sell the fake notes by offering an exchange to ringgit at lower rates.' The suspects had packaged the forged currency in sealed plastic to make it appear genuine. 'They were later convicted and sentenced to a year and three months in prison,' ACP Ku Mashariman said.

KUALA LUMPUR: Some RM721,239 worth of case items, including pornographic Video Compact Discs (VCDs), fake cash and mobile phones have been disposed of by the police. Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the items had been seized in raids by the Brickfields Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) from 2017 until this year. "The case items were seized and subsequently 138 investigation papers (IP) were opened. "Among the cases were from anti-vice raids on massage parlours, as well as illegal gambling and entertainment outlets," he told reporters during the the case disposal ceremony on Friday (July 25). The case items were being disposed of following the end of the legal process, which ended in the conclusion of trials and sentencing of the suspects, he said. "The disposal of the case items is in line with legal procedures and processes. "It will also free up space in our evidence storage and prevent any theft of case items or any of it going to the wrong hands," he added. Among the items being disposed of were pornographic VCDs, contraband, mobile phones, forged cash and computers, ACP Ku Mashariman said. "The forged cash seized was worth US$400,000 (RM1.6mil). We busted a group of foreigners last year trying to sell these notes, claiming they could exchange US dollars to ringgit at a lower rate. "The suspects would wrap up the cash in plastic, to make it seem that the dollar notes were real. "The suspects were subsequently charged and sentenced to a year and three months in prison upon conviction," he said.

Grim task: Around 30 policemen were deployed to conduct the search at a partially-­opened apartment block in Bangsar, leading to the discovery on Wednesday afternoon. — Bernama KUALA LUMPUR: The body of a man found in a lift shaft that was under construction has been confirmed to be that of missing British man Jordan Michael John Johnson-Doyle (pic). 'The remains were visually identified by an uncle of the deceased, who confirmed the identity via tattoos on his body,' said Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa. Johnson-Doyle's cause of death was identified as 'chest injury due to fall from height'. 'No elements of foul play were found at the scene. The case has been classified as a Sudden Death Report,' Comm Rusdi said in a statement yesterday. News of the 25-year-old software engineer's disappearance was reported in the Daily Mail on June 1 which stated that Johnson-Doyle, who was backpacking alone throughout South-East Asia, had not been heard from since May 27. His last known location was a pub in Bangsar on May 27, when he sent a picture of a poster from the pub to a friend. Johnson-Doyle's mother was quoted in the story as saying that she had been speaking to her son every day until the morning of May 28 when his Find My iPhone indicated that it was 'last seen 11 hours ago'. His body was found on Wednesday at a partially-­opened apartment block in Bangsar. Firefighters were called in to remove the remains. Police launched a large-scale search on Wednesday at the apartment block in Bangsar, focusing their search on areas still under construction. Around 30 policemen were deployed to conduct the search, along with the building's contractors, leading to the discovery on Wednesday afternoon. The search was focused there after police traced Johnson-Doyle's last known whereabouts. It is estimated that the distance between the pub, where he was last seen, and the apartment block is around 650m. Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood previously said that police received a report on Johnson-Doyle's disappearance on June 2.

PETALING JAYA: Police are urging those with information on missing United Kingdom national Jordan Michael John Johnson-Doyle to come forward to assist in finding him. 'Those with information are urged to contact their nearest police station or Pantai police station chief ASP Khairul Nizam Ramle at 014-700 0672,' he said, adding that he urged the public to not speculate on the matter as well.

KUALA LUMPUR: A brawl between two groups of men at a nasi kandar restaurant along Jalan Telawi, Bangsar early Friday (April 25) caused over RM5,000 in damage, say police. Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the incident, which took place around 5.40am, involved eight to 10 men. 'As a result of the fight, a glass panel was shattered, dining tables were dented and a decorative Quran display on the wall was destroyed. 'Frightened customers fled the premises, leaving behind unpaid food bills amounting to approximately RM1,000. "We believe the restaurant suffered about RM5,000 in losses,' he said in a statement on Sunday (April 27). Initial investigations revealed that the incident was sparked when a woman, who was part of one group, was harassed by another group, he said. "We have taken statements from three witnesses and have identified several suspects and are tracking them down. "The case is being investigated under Section 148 and Section 427 of the Penal Code for rioting and causing mischief," he said.
