Government to make audit of production facilities a must for e-rickshaws manufacturers
Tightening norms to make e-rickshaws and e-carts safer and to ensure that they comply with quality standards, the govt will make it mandatory for all manufacturers to undergo audit of their production facilities, with the latter being required to maintain proper quality control over their products from April next year. Grant of type approval for a new model will be granted only after audits of manufacturing facilities by vehicle testing agencies. This will ensure that only genuine players with proper facilities and quality control manufacture these vehicles, which have become the most popular mode of last-mile connectivity. Officials said the new norms will also help eliminate players who are only assembling accessories and motors after importing them and drive out fly-by-night firms. The road transport ministry has issued a draft notification detailing these mandatory provisions to be introduced in the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, after extensive consultations with industry associations. 'This request has come from the industry bodies. There is a need to have regulations as e-rickshaws and e-carts are becoming very popular across urban and rural areas. There is a need to ensure that only good quality e-rickshaws ply on roads,' said an official. For greater safety, the ministry has proposed to reduce the validity of a 'fitness certificate' for these vehicles to just one year compared to the current provision of three years. This provision for obtaining a fitness certificate every year is aimed at ensuring that electric vehicles are maintained properly and don't run at speeds beyond the permissible limit of 25 kmph. The ministry has also made it mandatory for all such vehicles manufactured after April 2027 to have lithium-ion batteries in place of acid lead batteries, windscreen wipers, features for greater stability and a mechanism to ensure that motors can't be tweaked to drive them at more than 25 kmph. As per govt data, over 16 lakh e-rickshaws have been registered across the country in the past five years, and there are more than 400 e-rickshaw manufacturers in India at present.>

Addressing a "bhoomi pujan" and letter-of-intent distribution ceremony for new units in Sehore's Badiyakhedi, the CM said the state was preparing its agriculture and industry to compete globally under PM Narendra Modi's "India First" vision. Over 400 representatives from various industrial sectors participated in the Saturday's event. Besides, Yadav said under the leadership of Modi, the country's role in the world was becoming increasingly significant in this changing era. "India, once called the 'Golden-Bird' is now roaring like a 'Golden-Tiger'," he said. "New industrial ventures are being launched almost every other day in Madhya Pradesh, creating job opportunities for the youth," he said. Continuing this trend, the CM said, new industries involving an investment of Rs 2,000 crore would be established in Badiyakhedi. "A system to procure one lakh MT vegetables will soon be implemented in Sehore, benefiting two lakh families in the district," he said. Additionally, Sehore will benefit from the "Parvati-Kali Sindh-Chambal Project", and is set to become a part of the Bhopal Metropolitan Region in the coming years. Yadav acknowledged the challenges faced while setting up industries and affirmed the state govt's commitment to supporting industrialists in every possible way. Yadav performed Bhoomi-Pujan for six major industrial projects in Sehore, including Asia's largest single-location transformer manufacturing unit to be set up by CG Power and Industrial Solutions Ltd at Jahangirpur on 18.26 hectares with an investment of Rs 888 crore. Surat: The number of applications for school fee assistance for children of unemployed diamond artisans in Gujarat has crossed 1.20 lakh, as the counting of forms continues across the state. Forms have been submitted from districts and cities where the diamond cutting and polishing industry operates. According to preliminary figures, around 78,000 forms were received in Surat, followed by 14,000 in Bhavnagar, 12,000 in Botad and 4,000 in Amreli. An additional 12,000 forms came from other smaller towns and districts. The forms were first collected at schools and are now being forwarded to the District Industries Center (DIC) for processing. By July 23, around 65,000 forms from Surat schools were counted, with 13,000 more added later. Officials said the next step is to scrutinize the applications for eligibility and forward them to the Surat Diamond Association (SDA) and other district-level diamond associations for employment verification. The associations will confirm whether the applicants were employed at the units mentioned in the forms. Once verification is complete, the DIC will approach the govt for grants, and officials are considering arranging additional funds to accommodate a potential increase in the number of eligible beneficiaries. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo The diamond industry employs about 12 lakh workers in Gujarat but has faced a severe downturn for the past three years due to falling demand and prices of natural diamonds.
