Reliance Infrastructure shares rally 35% in one month
By Aditya Bhagchandani Published on June 4, 2025, 09:34 IST Shares of Reliance Infrastructure have soared over 34.5% in the past month, currently trading at ₹345, compared to ₹256 a month ago. The sharp upward momentum comes on the back of strong Q4 results, key defence sector developments, and strategic partnerships. In a significant breakthrough, Reliance Infrastructure has become the first private Indian company to develop 155mm artillery ammunition under DRDO's design-cum-production partner programme. The firm has indigenously designed four variants of this ammunition, with production-ready supply chains involving ten domestic companies. The company expects orders worth ₹10,000 crore from the Ministry of Defence over the next decade, with export potential worth another ₹10,000 crore. Additionally, the company is setting up a ₹5,000-crore Dhirubhai Ambani Defence City in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, to bolster its ammunition and explosives manufacturing capacity. A new collaboration with Germany's Rheinmetall will further boost the company's global footprint in defence production. On the financial front, Reliance Infrastructure reported a Q4 consolidated net profit of ₹4,387.08 crore, a dramatic turnaround from a ₹3,298 crore loss in Q3. Adjusted EBITDA stood at ₹8,876 crore, up 681% sequentially. The consolidated net worth jumped 44% sequentially to ₹14,287 crore. Despite an insolvency petition by IDBI Trusteeship Services, the company clarified it has fully paid ₹92.68 crore to Dhursar Solar Power, settling claims related to a tariff agreement. Why IonQ Stock Soared 47% in May
IonQ shares soared last month as the CEO compared it to Nvidia. The company also got a boost from its first-quarter earnings report and its acquisition of Lightsynq. Trading at a lofty price-to-sales ratio of over 100, the stock could easily fall from here. 10 stocks we like better than IonQ › Shares of IonQ (NYSE: IONQ), a developer of quantum computers and related platforms, were soaring last month, primarily in response to favorable coverage in Barron's, and an article that said it was aiming to be "the Nvidia of quantum computing." Additionally, the company reported first-quarter earnings that were generally in line with estimates and benefited from a broader risk-on sentiment in the market as worries about a trade war and a weakening economy faded. According to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence, the stock finished the month up 47%. As you can see from the chart, shares surged on the Barron's report on May 22, but then gave up some of those gains the following week as bullishness in the stock seemed to fade following an Nvidia's earnings report that did not highlight quantum computing. Quantum stocks generally rallied last month, as some investors bet that it could be the next big technology after artificial intelligence (AI), but IonQ, which is the most valuable of the group of quantum stocks, got a particular boost on May 22 thanks to the coverage in Barron's, as IonQ soared 37% that day. In an interview with Barron's, CEO Niccolo de Masi said, "We're in the business of quantum just like Nvidia and Broadcom are in the business of classical GPUs," adding, "I believe IonQ will be the Nvidia player. There will be other people that copy us and follow us; they have always copied and followed us." It was a bold statement coming from a company that earlier in May reported just $7.6 million in revenue in its first quarter, or less than 0.1% of what Nvidia and Broadcom reported. IonQ also continues to lose money as it invests in its technology. In the first quarter, the company reported a generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) net loss of $32.3 million, and an adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) loss of $35.8 million. Last month, the company also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KISTI), a technology research institute and supercomputing center. According to the MOU, the two companies will work together to collaborate in multiple areas to advance quantum computing. IonQ is now targeting revenue of $75 million-$95 million for the full year following its acquisition of Lightsynq, though justifying a market cap of $10 billion at that level of revenue seems difficult, especially when the company reported flat growth in the first quarter. Investors bullish on quantum computing might consider taking a small position in the stock, but it could easily plunge, considering it's been bid up on mostly hype. India cenbank may deliver third straight rate cut as inflation undershoots
By Swati Bhat MUMBAI (Reuters) - India's central bank is widely expected to deliver a third consecutive rate cut on Friday as muted inflation provides ample space to focus on boosting economic growth further. A strong majority of economists, 53 of 61, in a Reuters poll expect the Reserve Bank of India's monetary policy committee (MPC) to cut the repo rate to 5.75%. Two respondents see a cut of 50 basis points and the remaining six expect no change. "Despite no pressing need for a third successive rate cut on June 6, we expect the MPC to cut - an opportunistic move amid the lower-than-expected inflation outcome and outlook, and retain the stance as 'accommodative'," Barclays economists wrote in a note. "The RBI may be tempted to lower inflation forecasts, but it may be prudent not to," they added. Retail inflation has slowed faster than expected and dropped to a near 6-year low of 3.16% in April. The RBI expects it to average around 4% during the year but many economists expect it to be lower. On the growth front, India's GDP surged 7.4% in the March quarter, much faster than forecasts and driven by construction and manufacturing. Full year growth for 2025 financial year that ended in March is estimated at 6.5% and the RBI expects the pace to be retained in fiscal 2026, though the outlook faces challenges given a global slowdown and U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff uncertainties. "RBI's estimate of neutral real rates is between 1.4% and 1.9%. In an environment of softer global growth, the neutral real rate is likely to be closer to 1.4%," IDFC First Bank chief economist Gaura Sen Gupta wrote. "The risk of overheating of the economy remains low with persistence of a negative output gap as indicated by persistently low core inflation and low current account deficit," she added. Economists and traders expect the RBI to continue focusing on enhancing monetary transmission by keeping system liquidity in a surplus. Since January, the RBI has infused nearly $100 billion into the banking system. "Apart from 25 bps cut in repo rate, there could be some probability of widening of the corridor to 50-basis between repo and SDF (standing deposit facility) rate," said Gopal Tripathi, head of treasury and capital markets at Jana Small Finance Bank. A sharp fall in India's treasury bill yields indicates that the central bank could widen the policy rate corridor at its meeting, five bond traders said last week. Indian lenders have also urged the central bank to revert to overnight liquidity management operations and sought easier cash reserve requirements, four sources familiar with the matter said.
