Three students have been arrested in connection with the murder, while the search for the fourth is underway.
Three students were arrested for allegedly killing a boy by deliberately ramming their Range Rover into a two-wheeler in Chennai, according to a report.
One of the arrested persons was the grandson of a DMK councillor, while the deceased was identified as Nithin Sai, 19, who was a college student.
It was initially assumed to be the case of an accident that took place on Monday; however, a deeper police probe revealed that the youngsters had deliberately hit the two-wheeler, NDTV reported.
Police said a fight broke out between two groups of students over a girl who was involved with two of the boys. Chandru, a student and the grandson of a politician, was asked to handle the situation. Chandru and his group got into a car and tried to scare the other group, who left on two bikes. The main target, Venkatesan, and his friend escaped on one bike. But the car chased the second bike and hit it, killing Nithin Sai, who was sitting on the back seat, and injuring the rider, Abhishek, according to the police, the report said.
Nithin suffered serious head injuries and succumbed to it on the spot.
Four persons have been arrested so far on charges of murder and other sections, while the cops are searching for the fourth student who was present in the car during the alleged crime.

Consenting Adults Have Right To Choose Partners, Live Together: Delhi High Court

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has called the right of two consenting adults to choose each other as life partners and live together "a facet of their personal liberty and privacy" being immune to the family's disapproval. "The Supreme court has repeatedly affirmed this position and directed the police to safeguard such couples from intimidation or harm," Justice Sanjeev Narula said on August 5. The court, as a result, directed the police to provide protection to a young couple, who married against the wishes of their families and were now being threatened. "The right of two consenting adults to choose each other as life partners and to live together in peace is a facet of their personal liberty, privacy, and dignity protected under Article 21. Family disapproval cannot curtail that autonomy," the order highlighted. The couple sought the court's intervention to ensure their safety in living together, claiming threats, coercion and interference being extended by the family members. The court was urged to direct the woman's family not to harm them or interfere in their peaceful cohabitation. The plea said the woman's family was against their relationship and allegedly issued repeated threats of physical harm. It said due to the hostility and fearing for her safety, the woman left her parental home on July 18 after informing her mother about her intention to marry the man. The couple married in a temple on July 23 on their own free will and has been living together happily, it added. The high court then directed the station house office of the police station concerned to designate an official and sensitise him or her of the court order and provide immediate assistance to the couple in case of any complaint or threat. "The directions issued herein, particularly those concerning police protection, are purely preventive in nature, aimed at ensuring the petitioners' safety and safeguarding their right to life and liberty. They shall not be construed as an expression of opinion on the truthfulness of the petitioners' claims, nor as any endorsement," it said. US Priest Accused Of Having Sex With Teen Stripper, Paying Nearly $400,000 In Hush Money

Last Updated: Jones said the relationship began in 2009 when she was 17 years old and working at a strip club Sullivan regularly visited A 61-year-old Catholic priest in Alabama is under investigation after being accused of having a sexual relationship with a stripper and paying her nearly $400,000 to keep silent about it. Robert Sullivan, pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Homewood, Alabama, was accused by Heather Jones, now 33. Jones said the relationship began in 2009 when she was 17 years old and working at a strip club Sullivan regularly visited. She claimed he offered financial support in exchange for 'private companionship," which included sex, The Guardian reported. Jones described how Sullivan, who initially introduced himself as a doctor, frequently took her shopping, dining, drinking, and to hotels in at least six cities across Alabama over several years. She also said he bought her a phone and paid for her rehab treatment while she struggled with addiction and depression. In 2024 and 2025, Jones alleged that Sullivan paid her nearly $120,000 through more than 125 Venmo transactions. In addition, she received $273,000 through two wire transfers of $136,500 each from an attorney's office as part of a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). Jones shared bank records, an email from Sullivan's church address, and a copy of the unsigned NDA to support her claims. She came forward because she fears others could be vulnerable to similar exploitation, as Sullivan continues to work closely with families and children in his parish. The Catholic Diocese of Birmingham confirmed that Sullivan has been placed on 'personal leave" while an independent review board investigates the allegations. The diocese has also forwarded the matter to the Vatican's office that handles clergy misconduct cases. Bishop Steven Raica, leader of the Birmingham Diocese, said there was not enough evidence to open a criminal investigation, but a diocesan inquiry is ongoing in line with Church law and policies. He also assured that the woman has received appropriate support from the diocese's Victim Assistance Coordinator. Sullivan has served as a priest for more than 32 years and was previously president of John Carroll High School for six years. The case remains under review, and Sullivan is barred from public ministry until the investigation concludes. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
