US Priest Accused Of Having Sex With Teen Stripper, Paying Nearly $400,000 In Hush Money
Jones said the relationship began in 2009 when she was 17 years old and working at a strip club Sullivan regularly visited
A 61-year-old Catholic priest in Alabama is under investigation after being accused of having a sexual relationship with a stripper and paying her nearly $400,000 to keep silent about it.
Robert Sullivan, pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Homewood, Alabama, was accused by Heather Jones, now 33.
Jones said the relationship began in 2009 when she was 17 years old and working at a strip club Sullivan regularly visited. She claimed he offered financial support in exchange for 'private companionship," which included sex, The Guardian reported.
Jones described how Sullivan, who initially introduced himself as a doctor, frequently took her shopping, dining, drinking, and to hotels in at least six cities across Alabama over several years. She also said he bought her a phone and paid for her rehab treatment while she struggled with addiction and depression.
In 2024 and 2025, Jones alleged that Sullivan paid her nearly $120,000 through more than 125 Venmo transactions. In addition, she received $273,000 through two wire transfers of $136,500 each from an attorney's office as part of a non-disclosure agreement (NDA).
Jones shared bank records, an email from Sullivan's church address, and a copy of the unsigned NDA to support her claims. She came forward because she fears others could be vulnerable to similar exploitation, as Sullivan continues to work closely with families and children in his parish.
The Catholic Diocese of Birmingham confirmed that Sullivan has been placed on 'personal leave" while an independent review board investigates the allegations. The diocese has also forwarded the matter to the Vatican's office that handles clergy misconduct cases.
Bishop Steven Raica, leader of the Birmingham Diocese, said there was not enough evidence to open a criminal investigation, but a diocesan inquiry is ongoing in line with Church law and policies. He also assured that the woman has received appropriate support from the diocese's Victim Assistance Coordinator.
Sullivan has served as a priest for more than 32 years and was previously president of John Carroll High School for six years.
The case remains under review, and Sullivan is barred from public ministry until the investigation concludes.

'We Will Erase': Israel's Ben Gvir Video Taunting Imprisoned Palestinian Leader Sparks Outrage
Barghouti, a senior member of the Palestinian Fatah party, has been in Israeli custody for over 20 years A video published by Israel's far-right national security minister Itamar Ben Gvir on Friday has caused widespread anger after showing him confronting Marwan Barghouti, the most high-profile Palestinian prisoner held by Israel. In the video shared on the social media platform X, Ben Gvir is seen surrounding Barghouti inside a prison cell along with two other people, including a guard. The minister addresses Barghouti directly in Hebrew, saying, 'You will not defeat us. Whoever harms the people of Israel, whoever kills children, whoever kills women… we will erase them." אני קורא הבוקר שכל מיני 'גורמים בכירים" ברשות לא כ"כ אהבו את מה שאמרתי לארכי מחבל מרואן ברגותי ימ"שאז אני אחזור על זה שוב ושוב בלי להתנצל – מי שיתעסק עם עם ישראל, מי שירצח לנו ילדים, מי שירצח לנו נשים, אנחנו נמחק אותו. בעזרת השם. — איתמר בן גביר (@itamarbengvir) August 15, 2025 Barghouti, a senior member of the Palestinian Fatah party, has been in Israeli custody for over 20 years after being sentenced for his involvement in attacks during the early 2000s. Israel considers him a 'terrorist" and convicted him for his role in the second intifada, or uprising, from 2000-2005. In his video, Ben Gvir's wrote, 'Anyone who messes with the people of Israel, anyone who murders our children, anyone who murders our women, we will wipe them out. With God's help." According to AFP, sources close to Ben Gvir said the meeting took place 'by chance" during an inspection visit to Ganot prison in southern Israel, but did not specify when the video was filmed. The Palestinian Authority condemned the video strongly. In a statement from its foreign ministry via the official Palestinian news agency Wafa, the confrontation was called 'an unprecedented provocation." The Palestinian mission to the United Nations added that Barghouti is 'enduring extremely harsh humanitarian conditions in his solitary confinement cell," losing over half his weight due to 'deliberate medical neglect and mistreatment." Hamas political bureau member Izzat al-Rishq also spoke out, saying Ben Gvir's actions show 'there is no meaning of savagery left that has not been embodied by" the Israeli minister. Barghouti remains a highly influential figure among Palestinians and is sometimes described by supporters as the 'Palestinian Mandela." 7-year-old boy falls into drain while chasing kite in Delhis Welcome area
New Delhi, Aug 15 (PTI) A seven-year-old boy fell into an open drain while trying to catch a kite in Northeast Delhi's Welcome area on Friday evening, prompting a search and rescue operation that was later suspended due to darkness, police said. According to the police, the incident took place near Lakdi Market Puliya, where the boy, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was playing in the area. 'We received a call in the evening regarding a child falling into a drain. A team immediately reached the spot and found that the boy had slipped into the water while chasing a kite," a senior police officer said. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) was alerted and a search and rescue operation was launched with the help of local divers and personnel from the Fire Department. However, the operation had to be called off late in the evening due to poor visibility. 'The search will resume early Saturday morning with additional manpower and equipment," the officer said, adding that efforts are being made to block the flow of water in certain sections of the drain to aid the search. The police said all possible assistance is being provided to the boy's family, and further investigation is underway.
