If there's nothing to see, why are we talking about her? Because there happened to be a large fire and a jailbreak in New Orleans while 'one of the most infamous dolls on the planet' was in town. Reports of Annabelle going missing and causing 'local disasters' while on tour in May have been proliferating online. Chicago was bracing itself last week after rumours she was coming for them next.
Hang on, hang on. 'Infamous'? 'Disasters'? Explain yourself. Annabelle is haunted, probably cursed. Given to a Connecticut nurse in 1970, she soon started moving around, leaving notes and inflicting 'psychic slashes' on visitors.
Passive-aggressive, huh? I've had roommates like that. Well, the paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren concluded Annabelle was demonically possessed and removed her to their museum. 'Allegedly linked to decades of deaths and grisly paranormal activity,' according to NBC, she has subsequently inspired three films in The Conjuring horror franchise (Annabelle, Annabelle: Creation and Annabelle Comes Home).
I like the 'allegedly' there, as if she may be litigious. Look at her: she'd absolutely take you to the cleaners.
So this Annabelle doll recently went walkabout and bad stuff happened? According to the New England Society for Psychic Research, who organised her tour (called Devils on the Run), Annabelle did not go missing in New Orleans, and she was never in Chicago at all. 'That doll was never out of our sight, never out of our control,' her handler, Tony Spera, confirmed. She remained in her case, which is 'usually secured by crosses and holy water'.
It's fake news, then? Or possibly viral marketing, but social media users aren't buying it. 'Ed and Lorraine told y'all to keep her locked up,' one wrote on the Facebook page for Ghost City Tours, which hosted Annabelle in New Orleans. 'Nobody listened. Look at the aftermath.' TikTok users freaked out at the idea she was missing, and questioned why Annabelle was 'on tour' at all: 'Is she about to drop her first single, I love Satan and killing babies???'
This is just silly, isn't it? Haunted dolls aren't real. Ebay users would beg to differ: there's a buoyant market for them, everything from 'positive, beginner-friendly' Gemma to Vicky, 'a particularly horrid spirit' who hides the TV remote and 'doesn't like men at all'.
Again, I've had roommates like that. There are other celebrity haunted dolls, too: sailor-suited Robert, who lives in Florida and inflicts 'post-visit misfortunes' on disrespectful guests; and Okiku, who is possessed by a dead child and has hair that keeps growing. But Annabelle is the most powerful and we should respect her.
Annabelle's making you say that, isn't she? Blink twice for yes. Shh, she'll hear you!

In honoring Mickalene Thomas this spring as one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people of 2025, 16-time Grammy-winner Alicia Keys called the celebrated American contemporary artist 'a mastermind at conveying poignant messages through striking visuals.' 'Mickalene herself is walking art,' Keys wrote in her paean to the 54-year-old Brooklyn resident. 'She has such a distinct presence and aura that it's impossible not to feel inspired by her. The art and the artist both are bold, fearless, and fierce.' But Thomas' former fiancée Racquel Chevremont, who continued to partner professionally with Thomas following the pair's 2020 breakup, says the artist sexually harassed her, created a 'hostile' and 'abusive' working environment and shorted her out of millions of dollars over the course of their decade-long relationship. That's according to previously unreported court documents obtained by The Independent, which reveal Chevremont wants a minimum of $10 million from Thomas over allegations that include breach of contract, unjust enrichment, retaliation and violations of state and local human rights laws. Thomas's work can also be found in, among other places, MoMA, the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C., and Jay-Z's Manhattan offices. Thomas's 2016 mixed-media rendering of Chevremont, a well-regarded art curator and consultant who joined the Real Housewives of New York cast last year, sold at auction five years later for more than $1.8 million. Messages sent to Thomas's work and personal email addresses went unanswered. Chevremont's legal and management teams did not respond to requests for comment. In a summons and notice filed in New York State Supreme Court on August 8, Chevremont says she is now seeking 'redress for years of exploitation, nonpayment and unlawful conduct.' 'From 2012 to 2022, Ms. Chevremont, who is also Ms. Thomas' former fiancée, contributed immeasurably to Ms. Thomas' artistic and commercial success, acting as a strategic advisor, and liaison to galleries, collectors, and institutions,' the filing contends. 'Despite these work-related contributions, Ms. Chevremont was paid improperly for more than a decade, both as an employee and under a written agreement effective January 1, 2021, as well as for compensation prior to 2021 and for multimillion-dollar deals she negotiated on Ms. Thomas' behalf.' Chevremont was reportedly entitled to a 20 percent cut on sales of commissioned works she helped land. The filing further accuses Thomas of having 'illegally diverted significant funds and business opportunities from her and Ms. Chevremont's jointly-owned entity' to her own LLC. 'In addition to diverting funds and not properly compensating Ms. Chevremont, Ms. Thomas also subjected Ms. Chevremont to a hostile and abusive work environment as well as quid pro quo harassment,' the filing alleges. Following their split, it says Thomas 'repeatedly and improperly pressured Ms. Chevremont to resume their romantic relationship, and ultimately terminated Ms. Chevremont's employment, in violation of New York State and New York City Human Rights Laws, when she made it clear that this would never happen.' Chevremont is asking a judge to award her 'not less than' $10 million, plus interest, attorneys' fees and court costs. While they were together, Thomas and Chevremont billed themselves as ' Deux Femmes Noires,' and used their resources and connections to boost young Black and LGBT artists. The two first met in 2002, began dating in 2011, and were engaged in 2019, on New Year's Eve. Raised in the Bronx, Chevremont has appeared in ad campaigns for L'Oréal, Fila and Benetton. She has two children with ex-husband Corey Baylor, a New York City financier, and became the second-ever LGBTQ+ cast member on RHONY when she signed on for season 15. 'My entire adult life has been about representation and using whatever platform I have to get the voices of queer folks of the diaspora out there,' Chevremont told GLAAD in June 2024. 'What better way to do so if not as a member of this iconic franchise?' Bravo, which produces and broadcasts the reality series, announced at the time that Chevremont would be 'living out a fairytale' onscreen, and would not 'let past rumors from the New York art scene get in the way of her happily ever after." Her current fiancée, motorcycle-riding forensic neuropsychologist Mel Corpus, was dubbed ' ludicrously hot ' by Vogue. Tiny feet seen dangling out of blanket being carried to dumpster where murdered boy, 5, was dumped
A man was caught on camera carrying what appeared to be a child wrapped in a blanket before a little boy's body was found in a Los Angeles dumpster. The body of Elyjiah Hearn, 5, was discovered in a dumpster in Panorama City about 7am on July 12. The child was covered in a blanket similar to the one shown in surveillance footage from the night before. The disturbing video showed the man walking along Titus Street accompanied by a woman. Feet and legs could be seen dangling from under the blanket as the man carried it along the street and out of view. Brycson Malik Gaddis, 20, the ex-boyfriend of the boy's mother, was arrested on July 16 and charged with murder. A search warrant for Gaddis' home described the footage and noted the similarities to the blanket Elyjiah was found in. 'The victim was wrapped in a multi-colored blanket, in which he was later found deceased. Bryscon was accompanied by Kemia Hearn,' who is the boy's mother, it stated. Police said there were signs of blood on the bathroom sink, drain, backsplash, and inside a tote bag on a bed during an initial search of the home. Elyjiah had suffered a fractured jaw, fractured ribs, and a lacerated liver, an autopsy found. Hearn, 24, was questioned by police in the days after her son's death, but released without charge. Gaddis pleaded not guilty in the Los Angeles Superior Court in Van Nuys on Monday, and is behind bars after failing to post $2 million bond. He has a long criminal history, with carjacking, assault, and domestic violence charges in the past year alone. The carjacking and assault charges were from last July, but the case against him and two others involved were dropped on December 16. In February, he was charged with domestic violence and false imprisonment for allegedly beating his then-girlfriend and locking her in their apartment on two occasions. Gaddis skipped a court date in April and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest. Police didn't find him before Elyjiah was killed. Gaddis was wearing an ankle monitor, but the battery was dead and he didn't get it recharged as he was required to. Hearn's family claimed Gaddis also abused her, and police were called multiple times about domestic violence incidents.

Caring parents killed and young children severely hurt in horror crash while driving eldest son to college
An Ohio couple have been killed in a horror crash that also left their two young children severely injured. At around 1.20pm on Friday, Maria Nunney, 50, and 55-year-old Donald Nunney, who had been driving, both died after their car veered off the road and smashed into a tree in North Carolina. The couple, who had been longtime teachers in Cleveland, were driving with two of their children, 15-year-old Lucia and 9-year-old Leo, to drop off their eldest son, Noah, 19, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Noah was following in a car behind them and watched the horror unfold in front of him. Both of their youngest children survived the devastating crash but are in hospital recovering from severe injuries and 'major trauma,' a GoFundMe for the Nunney family said. Noah had been driving behind the car and pulled over after it crashed into a wooded area as emergency crews rushed to his family. Maria Nunney tragically died at the scene of the accident, 19 News reported. Donald, however, was airlifted to a hospital in Chapel Hill where he later succumbed to his injuries, State Troopers said. The cause of the crash remains unclear and the investigation remains ongoing. 'It's hard to say what caused it. No other vehicles were involved, so there will be no charges,' North Carolina State Highway Patrol Sgt. Tyler Tucker told CBS 17. 'They were just incredible teachers, loving and attentive and committed parents,' Cleveland Teachers Union President Shari Obrenski told the outlet. 'They active in the community. Their loss has hit everyone so hard that it is unimaginable for their family and their children. So shocking and heartbreaking and just devastating.' Noah is sat beside his siblings in hospital while the young family's 'entire world has changed,' Tucker told 19 News. Both children are expected to make a full recovery. Principal Lennox Thompson of Joseph M. Gallagher School, where Donald Nunney was a language arts teacher, said in a statement obtained by WCNC: 'With a heavy heart I regret to inform you that Mr. Don Nunney and his wife passed away yesterday afternoon around 1:30 PM. He and his family got into a single-car accident in North Carolina after dropping off their son Noah to college.' 'We have been informed that 2 of his children were with them - that they were rushed to IC but are stable and will be fine. Don had been a teacher at Gallagher since 1994, servicing generations and generations of families in the community for almost 30 years, and our heart goes out to his family; his wife was a teacher in the District as well at Wilbur Wright,' the statement continued. 'They both were well know in Cleveland, in their own community and moreover, well respected and will be tragedy has hit home at school but the impact on their family - on their children - that is life altering.' 'Maria and Donald were more than amazing and loving parents,' the GoFundMe, created by Georgina and Sandro Galindo, said. The cause of the crash remains unclear and the investigation remains ongoing 'They were also a devoted son and daughter, siblings, caring teachers and friends. They gave so much of themselves to their students and their community.' The fundraised money, which reached more than $130,500 as of Tuesday morning, is set to help the Nunney's four children and help lay the couple to rest. 'Maria and Donald leave behind a legacy of community, family, and love, all rooted in the devotion they had for their children and their family. That legacy will live on through Noah, Diego, Lucia, and Leo, who carry forward the very best parts of who their parents were,' the Galindo's wrote. A friend wrote on Facebook that the pair 'blessed everyone they met.' 'The loss of these two is a loss to the world, but their kids are their greatest legacy,' they said. Another close friend described them as 'the most caring, selfless, and kindhearted souls.' 'Their love for everyone, especially their children, is truly unmatched,' they added.
