Mexican ex-world champion boxer Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr arrested by US immigration
Chavez, a former world champion and the son of legendary Mexican fighter Julio Cesar Chavez, was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in Los Angeles on Wednesday after authorities determined that he was in the country illegally, Homeland Security said in a statement.
Homeland Security, which oversees ICE, said the 39-year-old fighter has 'an active arrest warrant in Mexico for his involvement in organised crime and trafficking firearms, ammunition and explosives'.
The Mexican public prosecutor's office said in a statement later on Thursday that Mexico had issued an arrest warrant for Chavez in 2023 'for organised crime and arms trafficking'. US authorities informed Mexico that they have begun the procedure to send him home, it added.
Homeland Security said Chavez is believed to have ties to the Sinaloa cartel, one of six Mexican drug trafficking groups designated as terrorist organisations by the United States.

Chavez's arrest comes days after his lopsided loss to YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in a cruiserweight bout before a sell-out crowd at the Honda Centre in Anaheim, California.

Michael Madsen, Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill star, dies at 67
Michael Madsen, whose menacing characters in Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill made him a stand-out in Quentin Tarantino's films, has died. He was 67. Madsen was found unresponsive in his home in Malibu, California, on Thursday morning and pronounced dead, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Watch Commander Christopher Jauregui said. He is believed to have died of natural causes and authorities do not suspect any foul play was involved. Madsen's manager Ron Smith said cardiac arrest was the apparent cause. Madsen's career spanned more than 300 credits stretching back to the early 1980s, many in low-budget films. But his most memorable screen moment may have been the sadistic torture of a captured police officer – while dancing to Stealers Wheel's 'Stuck in the Middle with You' – as Mr Blonde in 1992's Reservoir Dogs. Sean ‘Diddy' Combs denied bail after mixed verdict clears him of top sex crimes charges
A US judge denied Sean 'Diddy' Combs' request to be released from jail on Wednesday ahead of his sentencing, after the music mogul was cleared of sex-trafficking and racketeering charges that could have put him behind bars for life but found guilty of lesser prostitution-related offences.
