Sinclair, Martin, Guay among inductees to Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 2025
Wheelchair racer Michelle Stilwell and softball player Darren Zack will join them in the athlete category, while NHL coach Ted Nolan and sport leader Martha Billes will enter as builders.
The class of 2025 will receive the Order of Sport at an induction gala Oct. 29 at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Que.
The Sports Hall of Fame has inducted over 750 Canadians, including three horses, since opening 70 years ago.
Last year's inductees included hockey player Vicki Sunohara, tennis player Daniel Nestor and figure skater Patrick Chan.
Canadians are encouraged to nominate people for the Hall of Fame. A selection committee reviews submissions and votes to recommend inductees to the Hall's board of governors.

Dylan Samberg excited for continued growth with Winnipeg Jets

(AP Photo/Gareth Patterson) Jets defenseman Dylan Samberg says he's excited to be back in Winnipeg for another three seasons. On Wednesday, the club announced it reached a new deal with Samberg hours before the two sides were scheduled for an arbitration hearing. 'There's some nerves that go into it, especially as you get down to the deadline and what not, but I'm glad we were able to agree on a deal and get things moving forward,' Samberg said. Samberg's new deal will pay him $5.75 million annually for the next three NHL seasons. 'You always want to have longer term… but sometimes it just doesn't work out that way [when] both sides just can't agree,' he said. 'I have on year of proving myself and I want to continue to add more years onto that and prove that I belong here.' The 26-year-old was drafted by the Jets in the 2nd round of the 2017 draft. Samberg made the full-time jump to the NHL three seasons ago and established himself as a top-4 blueliner during the 2024-25 campaign while setting career highs in goals and points. 'It's a tough league, and everyone wants to get there,' Samberg explained. 'It's hard to make it to the league, but it's even harder to stay there.' Samberg says he was happy with how he handled moving up to the Jets second pairing and logging more minutes against other team's top lines. In fact, he tied for sixth in the NHL in plus/minus rating. 'I'm excited for next year, and I want to continue to grow on that second pair,' he said. 'Playing alongside Neal Pionk has been awesome, and all the guys have been great to me over the years.' The Winnipeg Jets won the Presidents' Trophy after finishing with the best regular season record in the NHL but fell to the Dallas Stars in the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. The team is heading into the 2025-26 campaign with Winnipeg native Jonathan Toews joining the fray and top-line winger Gabe Vilardi re-upping on a six-year deal. 'It shows that guys want to stay here,' Samberg said. 'We're very tight-knit and very close and had a fun year. It's always fun when you're winning, and we want to continue to do that.' Samberg added he's looking forward to putting down roots in Winnipeg for another few years. 'It reminds me a lot of home—just less trees up there,' the Minnesota native said. 'The weather's the same from where I grew up, and everything's pretty much the same. Everyone's really been nice and welcoming, which is great.' 'I think we have a really good group here and a really good chance of making something special.'

By Anonymous celebrity gossip insider Deuxmoi gets so many submissions daily from around the world that when the New Yorker received photos of former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and American pop star Katy Perry having dinner at swanky Montreal resto Le Violon on Monday night, she didn't think much of it. But when TMZ's report the following morning took off and created a worldwide firestorm that resulted countless memes and an Entertainment Tonight date map pinpointing every stop on their supposed non-date/date, Deuxmoi told The Gazette she may have miscalculated the significance of the soirée. 'I found out about it before TMZ broke the story, and I didn't think anyone else would have this information because it was just coming from a restaurant in Montreal,' she said via phone interview. 'I did not expect TMZ to break it, so I received a text on Monday night about the sighting and I sat on it until the next day.' Deuxmoi is one of the Internet's biggest hot spots for celebrity gossip and candid photos. The Instagram page alone has more than two million followers, and the brand has spun out into merch, an app, a podcast and a novel. But what the self-professed 'curator' didn't expect, and this is where her experience in dealing with mountains of blurry celeb rendezvous photo submissions came in handy, was that there was more than one amateur paparazzi in Danny Smiles's resto. 'Little did I know that someone else at the restaurant sent a picture to TMZ, because my source was a different source than TMZ's source,' she said. That set off alarm bells. 'There were a lot of people at this restaurant. It wasn't empty, so I think they wanted to be seen,' she said. 'If you see where they were sitting, you could see they were sitting very close to the bar, so people were seated up and down the whole bar and their table was right next to that. It looked like that to me. So it's not like they were tucked away in a corner or in a booth. They were out in the open.' Celebrities of Perry's stature are usually pretty careful about being seen. Trudeau was also front and centre at her Bell Centre show on Wednesday night, adding even more fuel to the social media fire. For Canadians, a former prime minister spending time with an American pop star is big news. For Americans like Deuxmoi, Perry is the main draw here. Earlier this July, she announced she was splitting with longtime partner, actor Orlando Bloom. They have one child together. Perry also received a lot of media attention earlier this year, much of it negative, for joining Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin suborbital space flight. Because Trudeau news rarely makes a ripple down south, Deuxmoi said it's harder to get Intel on this week's date compared to when it's two twentysomethings involved. 'She's a pop star, but she's not, you know, like a Sabrina Carpenter or Chappell Roan. She's seasoned so people aren't talking about her as much. So the information is trickling in,' she said. In general, Deuxmoi added that although she has fans around the world willing to risk getting caught snapping a celeb in public for a moment of internet infamy, she rarely gets any submissions from Montreal. 'I gotta say, not really anything. I'm not shocked.' After searching for the word Montreal in her DMs, she landed on a few names. 'Joe Jonas once. Ryan Reynolds was there in May,' she said. 'And that's it. And I get sightings seven days a week.'

Oil Kings name ex-Oilers captain Smith as head coach

A former Oilers captain is the new head coach of the Edmonton Oil Kings. The major-junior Western Hockey League club introduced Jason Smith as its latest bench boss on Thursday morning. Smith played 1,008 games over a 15-season National Hockey League career, parts of eight of them with the Edmonton Oilers. 'I am extremely excited to join one of the elite organizations in the CHL (Canadian major-junior umbrella organization),' Smith said in a media release. 'Edmonton has been home to me before as a player, and I can't wait to get back and be a part of the city again.' Smith replaces Luke Pierce, whose contract the Oil Kings declined to renew in April. Smith also played for the New Jersey Devils (the team that drafted him in 1992), the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Philadelphia Flyers and the Ottawa Senators before retiring in 2009. He's been in the coaching ranks since 2014, when he worked as an assistant with the Senators. Smith has previous WHL head-coaching experience, serving as bench boss of the Kelowna Rockets for a little more than two seasons and as an associate coach for the Prince George Cougars. He most recently worked as an assistant coach for Philadelphia's minor-league affiliate, the American Hockey League's Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the last four seasons. 'Jason is a proven leader and will be a great cultural fit for our staff and players,' Kirt Hill, the Oil Kings' general manager and president, said in the release. 'He brings a wealth of knowledge as not only a coach but through his years of playing experience, and we're excited for this next chapter of Oil Kings hockey.' Smith joins an Oil Kings coaching staff that, besides Pierce, is intact from last season, including Kyle Chipchura as an assistant coach and manager of player development, Devan Praught as an assistant coach, Adam Filmon as video coach and manager of hockey operations, and Smith's former Oilers teammate Ladislav Smid as development coach.
