Indian Premier League Player of the Tournament (MVP) Winners List from 2008 to 2025 Season: Mumbai Indians prolific batter and India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav was named the 'Most Valuable Player' (Player of the tournament) of the Indian Premier League 2025 season that concluded on Tuesday with Royal Challengers Bengaluru winning their maiden title. RCB handed Punjab Kings a six-run defeat in the finals of IPL 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to become the new IPL champions.
MI, which were eliminated just before the last hurdle in the second Qualifier against PBKS, were carried single-handedly by Suryakumar's batting in the middle-order. Having won just one out of the first five matches, MI saw a turnaround in their fortunes when Suryakumar's batting started to click.
He became the first MI batter to score 700 + runs in a single season. In 16 innings, SKY amassed 717 runs at an average of 65.18 while striking at 167.91 with five fifties under his belt. In all those 16 innings, the 360-degree batter scored above 25 in each inning. He is also only the second MI player to be awarded MVP after Sachin Tendulkar won it in 2010. The orange cap holder of that season, Sachin, had scored 618 runs, taking MI to their first final.
Andre Russell, Sunil Narine (both for Kolkata Knight Riders) and Shane Watson (for Rajasthan Royals) are the only three players to win MVP award twice in their careers.
Apart from Tendulkar and Suryakumar, Virat Kohli, Harshal Patel and Shubman Gill are the only three Indians to be adjudged as the Player of the Tournament in IPL.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi Hits Towering Sixes In U19 NCA Camp Ahead Of England Tour

Last Updated: Suryvanshi will open the innings for the Ayush Mhatre-led India U-19 team in the upcoming five youth ODIs and two youth Tests against England. 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, after making headlines for his explosive batting for Rajasthan Royals in the recently concluded 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League, has kicked off his preparations for India's upcoming U19 tour of England. The India U-19 team will travel to England later this month to take on the hosts in five youth ODIs and two youth tests. The first youth ODI will be played at County Ground in Hove on June 27. 17-year-old Mumbai batter Ayush Mhatre will lead the India U-19 team. The Mumbai-based top-order batter was announced as India's captain last month. He will open the inning with Suryavanshi. Suryavanshi, who won the Superstriker of the Season award in IPL 2025 for amassing a total of 252 runs in seven matches for Rajasthan Royals with a strike rate of 206.55, has kicked off his preparations ahead of the month-long tour. In a video going viral on the internet, the left-handed batter can be seen hitting towering sixes during the NCA U19 camp in Bengaluru. Here's a look: Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the U19 NCA camp. 👏 — Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) June 7, 2025 In IPL 2025, Suryavanshi made his debut against Lucknow Super Giants on April 19 in Jaipur and opened his account with a first-ball six. During RR's 10th league match played against Gujarat Titans at Sawai Mansingh Stadium on April 28, Suryavanshi hammered a 35-ball century and helped RR chase down the target of 210 runs in 15.5 overs. By crossing the 100-run mark in just 35 balls, Suryavanshi became the youngest batter (14 years, 31 days) in history to score a century in a T20 match, and he also broke the record of being the fastest Indian batter to score an IPL century. In that match, Suryavanshi hammered 11 sixes, which helped him equal the record of hitting the most sixes in an IPL match by an Indian batter. In RR's last match of the IPL 2025 season, which was played at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on May 20, Suryavanshi scored a fifty (57) against Chennai Super Kings. He faced 33 balls during his stay at the crease in the 188-run chase and hammered 4 fours and as many sixes. First Published: June 07, 2025, 15:27 IST

Andre Russell's Accusation: 'India Looks After Test Players, I Was Pushed Out...'

Last Updated: Andre Russell accused the West Indies of pushing him out of Test cricket by labeling him a white-ball specialist. All-rounder Andre Russell has accused the West Indies of 'pushing him out' of the Test set-up by boxing him as a white-ball specialist. The hard-hitting batter, who is considered one of the best to ever grace the IPL, said he has always believed in Test cricket and never turned his back on it till the time it was in his control. Russell made his Test debut before other formats, scoring two runs and taking a wicket against Sri Lanka in Galle in 2010. He never played red-ball international again, becoming an ODI and T20I specialist, and eventually a freelancer globe-trotting around various leagues. 'I believe in Test cricket, but at the end of the day, I'm a professional. It wasn't part of my journey. I have no regrets because it wasn't me that turned my back… " Russell told The Guardian ahead of West Indies' T20I series against England, which got underway on Saturday '…I was basically pushed out of the Test set-up. They saw me as more of a white-ball player and that was that," he added. Told about Virat Kohli's now-famous comments after winning his first IPL trophy after 18 years — that it was still 'five levels' below Test cricket, which is the most respectable format — Russell said that wasn't the case for the West Indies. He said a big reason why cricketers in not just India but also Australia and England love to play Test cricket was because it paid well and allowed them to live a comfortable life. 'I think when you're from India, Australia, England, those places where they look after their Test players, it's totally different to being from West Indies," Russell said. 'Those guys (India, Australia and England) get lucrative central contracts to play Test cricket and play on the biggest stages, of course they want to play. West Indians? You might play 50 or 100 Tests and you know, after you retire, there's not much to show for it. Of course, you want the possibility of living a comfortable life and taking care of your family," Russell said not discounting the financial advantages of playing in T20 leagues. 'If he played for us....': RCB head coach makes a massive statement on KKR player, his name is..... New Delhi: There was a race between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore for Venkatesh Iyer in the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, KKR has bought Venkatesh Iyer for Rs 23 crore 75 lakh. Now looking at the season, it can be said that it was right that Venkatesh Iyer was not bought by RCB, because he was a complete flop this season, while RCB lifted the IPL trophy for the first time. However, RCB head coach Andy Flower believes something else. The RCB coach has told why he went so far for him in the auction? Venkatesh Iyer scored only 142 runs in 11 matches for KKR this season. His average was very poor. Apart from Venkatesh Iyer, RCB bought Josh Hazlewood and Phil Salt at his price, both of whom remained match winners for the team till the end. Now RCB head coach Andy Flower has supported Venkatesh Iyer and said that if he had played for RCB, he would have performed well. Venkatesh was with KKR last season and played well, but this time his bat did not work. Hyderabad got a better deal At the price at which KKR bought Iyer, Delhi added two important players – Tristan Stubbs and Mukesh Kumar – to the team for the same amount. Both these players kept giving match-winning performances for Delhi Capitals throughout the season and played an important role in taking the team to the playoffs. Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Andy Flower said, 'We rate Venky (Venkatesh Iyer) very highly, that's why we worked so hard for him. It was because we wanted to value a strong Indian core in our team. We wanted some exciting young cricketers and a left-hander in the top order. We didn't get that. I think if he had played for us, he would have had a really great season.' The kind of performance Venkatesh Iyer has given, it seems that Kolkata Knight Riders will release him. Even if they buy him again at a lower price in the auction.
