High teas, artisan markets and drag brunches: What's happening in Toronto this Mother's Day
Did you forget Mother's Day is this weekend? Don't worry, we've got you covered.
If you're scrambling to make last minute plans — or just want to find something to do before taking mom out for dinner — there are plenty of events, free and ticketed, going on around Toronto Sunday.
High tea at a castle
Casa Loma will be hosting a Mother's Day high tea. Book a table and enjoy a selection of premium teas, pastries and sandwiches, plus a tour of the castle. Reservations are required, and tickets cost $75 per person.
Shopping in the park
The weather's getting warmer, and the Toronto Artisan Market is headed back outdoors at Trinity Bellwoods Park downtown, with dozens of local artists selling all sorts of goods from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
As an added bonus, enjoy the cherry blossoms while you browse the stalls.
Decorate a cake together
Take mom to Le Dolci Culinary Classroom in the Junction Area for a delicious masterclass. Guests will be provided with a pre-baked cake and buttercream icing so you can skip the hard part and focus on decorating your own special cake — which you get to take home at the end. The class takes place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Take a walk through the flowers
Sunday is the final day of Fleurs de Villes SPRING, a five-day floral display in the Bloor-Yorkville neighbourhood. Over 30 floral installations, created by Toronto florists, are set up along a scenic trail that's free to walk. Perfect for a Sunday stroll and a photo shoot.
Breakfast at the zoo
The Toronto Zoo is hosting a special Mother's Day breakfast that starts at 8:30 a.m. The ticketed event includes exclusive early morning access to the snow leopards habitat, breakfast with a show, and a special gift for every mother in attendance.
Brunch at a drag show
Head out to East York for a special brunch buffet and drag show at Fantasy Farm Event Centre and Banquet Hall. This is the second annual Mother's Day drag brunch at the venue. This year's lineup includes Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga impersonators and Jada Hudson of Canada's Drag Race fame. Tickets are available here.
Listen to — and paint — some records with mom
Head to STACKT Market near Fort York for a special Mother's Day painting workshop Sunday for an afternoon of music and art. For $30, guests are given paint, brushes and a record as a canvas to create their own vinyl masterpiece while a special Mother's Day playlist bumps in the background. The workshop runs from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Go fishing
Mother's Day isn't just about brunch, flowers and cakes. And that's why the province of Ontario has made fishing free for all this weekend, no license required. So why not hit the water for some quality time. You might even catch Mother's Day dinner.
Motherless Day party
Mother's Day can be a hard day for some.
For those who've lost their mother, a special party is being held downtown to help honour their parent's memory. The Parentless Club is hosting a Motherless Day party at Waterworks Food Hall downtown Sunday, where people can come together to support each other through the day, enjoying snacks and activities.

Edmonton Oilers' Skinner relishes rematch against Florida Panthers' Bobrovsky
Article content Florida's Sergei Bobrovsky, 36, with his two Vezina trophies, his Stanley Cup ring and his 429 career regular-season wins, 10th most all-time. And at the other end of the ice we bring you Edmonton's decade-younger Stuart Skinner, 26, with his 104 wins and craving a manhole-sized championship ring on his big hands. Article content Article content Last June it was a mixed bag for both goalies in the Stanley Cup Final matchup. Article content Bobrovsky, the fastest goalie in history to reach 400 total wins, in just 707 games, beating Henrik Lundqvist's 727, stopped 50 of the first 51 Oiler shots in Games 1-2 of the 2024 playoff in Florida and only gave up four goals in the first three Panthers wins. He looked unflappable, certainly on shots along the ice, and then he crashed and almost burned, giving up 15 in three straight losses to the Oilers before reverting to form in Game 7 in Florida and giving up just Mattias Janmark's breakaway in the first period. Skinner was beaten nine times in the first three games, all losses, but just five times in games 4-6, all Oilers routs, before only Carter Verhaeghe and Sam Reinhart scored in the Game 7, 2-1 Panthers' win. Article content In the series, Skinner actually had better numbers. He lost the game that counted most but he had a .909 save percentage through seven games, so certainly gave his Oiler team a chance at the big prize. Bobrovsky, more up and down, was .899. Article content But Bobrovsky won the last game and was smiling in the handshake line while Skinner was trying to mask his disappointment and not doing too well at it. Article content 'In the lineup I remember how kind he was to somebody who had just lost,' said Skinner, who also had some nice words for Bob, lodge brother to lodge brother. Article content 'You just congratulate the guy. It's goalie to goalie. I thought he stole a couple of games for them. That was my main message to him, telling him he was a huge part of them winning the Cup. And that he had made it really hard on us,' he said. Article content '(Saying congratulations) is hard to do in the midst of feeling crushed, in the midst of crying, though. But you have to be a man about it in a moment like that. It's one of the best days of their lives. I'm not going to have a little pity party,' he said. Article content 'I hope it's different in the handshake line this time around. I mean that's the dream right? But we've got a lot of work to do,' said Skinner. Article content 'Yeah, great game. I watched it again to get the emotions out of it,' he said. Article content 'As a goalie my perspective is to give your team a chance to win. We kept it at one. That's just not me, it's our D, our forwards tracking back. But again, it's hockey. You need a bit of luck to win it,' said Skinner, who will try to change the script this time around.

Early morning alcohol service returns to Calgary for 2025 Stampede
People will once again be able to drink booze with their breakfast during the 2025 Calgary Stampede. Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) said on Tuesday that Calgary bars, lounges, taprooms and restaurants have the option of starting liquor service at 8 a.m. during the event, which runs from July 4 to 13. The blanket approval also allows liquor licensees along the parade route to start serving booze at 7 a.m. on the day of the Stampede Parade: Friday, July 4. In addition, private Stampede events can apply for individual approval from the AGLC to start serving drinks at 6:30 a.m. Closing hours for liquor service are not changing and all other rules guiding the service remain in effect. The AGLC occasionally grants early service hours for major international sporting events or major community events. The organization has given permission for extended liquor hours for the Calgary Stampede since 2014.
