Bengaluru: A 19-year-old delivery agent was allegedly abducted and brutally murdered by a group of five men following his failed relationship with a student, police said Sunday.
Preetham R, from Prashanth Nagar in Devanahalli town, was employed by an online grocery firm on Sulibele Road. Authorities have apprehended five suspects in connection with the murder: Srikanth, Shiva Kumar, Charan, Sanjay, and Kaushik. The suspects are aged 22-25 years and reside at Gantiganahalli and neighbouring areas.

"Preetham was apparently unable to accept the termination of the relationship and made repeated attempts to reconnect with the young woman," a senior police officer said. "These persistent efforts were perceived as harassment by the woman, who informed her family members about the situation."
Among those alerted was Srikanth, the woman's cousin, who alongside his friends reportedly confronted Preetham about his behaviour. Despite warnings, Preetham allegedly continued his pursuit.
Police indicated that Srikanth and his accomplices forcibly removed Preetham from the vicinity of his workplace around 10.30pm May 2 and stuffed him into a vehicle. What followed was a horrific two-hour ordeal during which the victim was driven to multiple locations while being subjected to assault.
"The suspects admitted to repeatedly striking the victim with their fists and feet while inside the moving vehicle. They also stopped at an isolated location to continue the assault. The violence was particularly concentrated on the victim's facial area, resulting in severe disfigurement," an investigating officer said.
When Preetham eventually lost consciousness, the assailants, reportedly realising the gravity of their actions, abandoned his body near the govt primary school at Neeragantipalya village, Devanahalli.
Preetham's father, Ramachandra H, visited his son's office around 6am Saturday as his son, whose shift would end at 3am, had not returned home. He learned about the abduction from his son's colleagues. During the search for his son, Ramachandra received information about an unidentified body discovered near Neeragantipalya.
"The family had difficulty in identifying Preetham due to the extensive facial injuries," a police official said. Preetham's body was found by around 7.15am, after which Ramachandra filed a formal complaint.
Ramachandra's complaint also alleged that this was not the first violent encounter between his son and the suspects, claiming that Srikanth and his associates had physically assaulted Preetham around five days before the fatal incident.
All five suspects were taken into custody Sunday evening. Police said they were labourers engaged in various occupations.
"They are currently being held for further questioning as the investigation continues. We are working to establish a complete timeline of events and determine the precise circumstances that led to this tragic outcome," a senior officer said.

Hustle culture or harassment? Techie shares her traumatic experience at dream startup: 'Was gaslighted for 3 years'

Starting a career with a startup has become increasingly common among young graduates, promising rapid learning, diverse responsibilities, and the chance to be part of something from the ground up. But beneath this appealing exterior often lies a turbulent and unpredictable reality—one that blurs personal boundaries, disregards employee safety, and prizes image over integrity. In 2022, a fresh graduate took her first step into the corporate world, joining a high-profile Indian SaaS startup focused on identity verification. Backed by elite investors and founded by business school alumni, the company appeared to embody promise and prestige. However, the glitter faded quickly. Within weeks, she was subjected to disturbing acts of misconduct. A senior leader, much older and in a position of power, made a non-verbal demand for physical contact—an inappropriate and humiliating request. Just days later, at a company event, the same man assaulted her while she was intoxicated, physically picking her up and ignoring her repeated pleas to stop. The immediate aftermath was marked by disbelief and betrayal. Her attempt to seek help through the HR department resulted in shallow assurances but no real action. Despite being encouraged to file a formal complaint, fear held her back. New to the workforce and only 21, she didn't feel safe challenging the very people in control of her career. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Elegant New Scooters For Seniors In 2024: The Prices May Surprise You Mobility Scooter | Search Ads Learn More Undo When she confronted the man who harassed her, he downplayed the incident with manipulative justifications and thinly veiled threats, suggesting he'd walked away from similar situations before. As she refused to stay silent, the retaliation began. Excluded from meetings, projects, and informal gatherings, she was systematically isolated and humiliated. The psychological toll deepened with each passing day. The hostile environment wasn't limited to a single incident or individual. Even her female reporting manager crossed boundaries by asking extremely personal and inappropriate questions during the first week. It was clear that workplace harassment had been normalized within the company's culture. This culture of manipulation and gaslighting chipped away at her mental and physical health. Frequent illnesses, anxiety, and emotional breakdowns became part of her daily life. Conversations felt like navigating a maze filled with hidden traps. She found herself alone in a place that publicly celebrated trust and safety. Ironically, the startup continued to build its brand around mental health awareness and inclusivity while silencing voices like hers. Senior leaders mocked women's safety laws behind closed doors. When she raised concerns with one of the co-founders, he offered only passive resignation, acknowledging the abuse while doing nothing to address it. Three years later, she still bears the scars—emotional, mental, and professional. Her confidence eroded, her personal life was disrupted, and her career was derailed before it truly began. While the startup continues to promote its polished image and attract investments, she's left grappling with lasting trauma. Her story is a stark reminder that "culture" is not built through slogans, TED Talks, or branding campaigns. It's revealed in how power is wielded when no one is watching—and in whether people feel safe when they speak up.

Kota bank fraud: ICICI bank employee altered customer mobile numbers; stole Rs 4.58 crore over 3 years

ICICI employee swindles over 4.5cr from Kota city branch, arrested KOTA: In a major bank fraud, a relationship manager of ICICI Bank, Sakshi Gupta, has allegedly siphoned off Rs 4.58 crore from customer accounts in Kota city. The accused worked at Shriram Nagar branch of DCM area in Kota and committed the fraud during the 2020-23 period. She was arrested by the Udhyog Nagar police on May 31 following investigation. The crime first came to light on Feb 18, following which the branch manager lodged a complaint with the police. According to police, for around two-and-a-half years, Sakshi withdrew funds fraudulently from over 100 accounts of 41 customers. She purportedly invested the money in the stock market, but suffered heavy losses. To prevent customers from noticing, she changed the mobile numbers linked to several accounts to numbers belonging to her relatives, ensuring that transaction alerts and OTPs were not received by the real account holders. Bank manager Tarun Dadhich subsequently filed a complaint against her. According to Udhyog Nagar police station SI Ibrahim, the fraud was first reported on Feb 18. From 2020 to 2023, Sakshi had systematically transferred funds from various customer accounts, in some cases using an elderly woman's account, who was unaware of the activity, as a 'pool account'. She had transferred over Rs 3 crore into this account. Police probe confirmed that Sakshi misused debit cards, PINs and OTPs for these unauthorised transactions, and even activated overdraft facilities on 40 accounts without consent. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo She also prematurely closed fixed deposits of 31 customers, channelling Rs 1.34 crore into unauthorised accounts. In addition, a fraudulent personal loan for Rs 3.4 lakh was disbursed. Many transactions were conducted through insta kiosks and various digital banking platforms, with the accused using debit cards of four customers for ATM and internet banking activity. Funds from these frauds were also sent to Demat accounts as part of an attempted cover-up, police said. A statement issued by the ICICI Bank said, "The interest of our customers are of paramount importance to us. Immediately upon discovering the fraudulent activity, we filed an FIR with the police. We have a zero-tolerance policy against any fraudulent activity and thus suspended the employee involved. We would like to reassure that genuine claims of impacted customers have been settled."
