Court allows MACC to amend asset freeze notice for Daim's widow
The assets include two commercial properties at St Mary Axe and One Crown Court, three luxury residences at Bryanston Square, Bryanston Mews, and Lancaster Gate, two residential units at Gloucester Place, and a CAF Bank Limited (UK) account held by The Ilham Foundation.
Judge Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid granted the application after deputy public prosecutor Maziah Mohaide explained that the amendments involved adding details to the notice of motion dated May 30, 2025. These changes included updating property addresses, title numbers, and purchase values to comply with UK enforcement standards.
Meanwhile, lawyer Syed Afiq Syed Albakri, representing Na'imah, disclosed that six companies, including The Ilham Foundation, had sought to intervene in the MACC's asset freeze application. However, Maziah objected to their involvement.
Judge Azhar directed the prosecution to file an affidavit in response to the intervention request by July 25, with the six companies required to submit their replies by August 6. Case management was scheduled for August 8.
On May 22, MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that eight investigation papers were initiated based on new information from external agencies regarding undisclosed assets linked to Daim, his family, and proxies.
Azam stated that the latest findings revealed assets not declared during the 2023 probe.

State civil servant remanded for alleged abuse of power in land misappropriation
KUALA TERENGGANU: A state civil servant in Terengganu has been remanded for five days starting today over allegations of abusing his position in government land applications. The remand order, issued by Magistrate Iffah Nabihah Mohd Ishak, follows an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the Magistrate's Court here. The suspect, a man in his 50s, was detained yesterday afternoon after arriving to give a statement at the MACC Terengganu office. A source revealed that initial investigations suggest the offences occurred between 2019 and 2023, involving manipulation of land plans and processing land-related matters for his children's benefit. Following the arrest, MACC Terengganu seized two plots of land in a district within the state, measuring around 9,000 and 6,000 square feet, for further investigation. Terengganu MACC director Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid confirmed the arrest, stating the case is being probed under Section 23(1) of the MACC Act 2009.

Mohd Fuad is first Sabahan to be the state's MACC director
KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) Penang director, Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah, is set to take over as Sabah MACC director, replacing Datuk Karunanithy Subbiah. Fuad, the first Sabahan to hold the post, is expected to take over in the first week of August, according to MACC officials, as congratulatory messages were shared on social media. Karunanithy, the longest-serving director at Sabah MACC, having held the position since March 2019, will be the commission's Penang director. Fuad had previously served in Sabah and was an integrity officer with the Chief Minister's Department in 2019. Most state MACC directors serve two to three years in each posting. A predecessor, Abdul Aziz Abdul Jalil, also served for about six years as the state director between 1970 and 1976, when the graft-buster was still the Anti-Corruption Agency. When contacted on Monday (July 14), Karunanithy confirmed that he will be transferred and expects the handing over of duties ceremony to be on Aug 7. "Many Sabahans will be happy and proud with Fuad's appointment as Sabah director," he said.
