Dortmund reject Chelsea's offer for Jamie Gittens

Borussia Dortmund have rejected a offer from Chelsea for their winger Jamie Gittens.
"We spoke over the phone, but in the end we didn't come to an agreement because we have different ideas about the player's current value," Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl said on Wednesday in a press conference.

According to media reports, Chelsea have offered €55 million ($63.08 million) for the player.
Instead of a move to the Premier League, the 20-year-old Gittens will play for Dortmund at the Club World Cup in the United States from June 14 to July 13.
"Jamie definitely makes our team better. We're glad he's here," Kehl said.
However, Gittens himself reportedly has already reached an agreement with the London club and a move to England after the Club World Cup is not off the table.
"We're in a good exchange and we'll see how things develop in the future," Kehl said.
Gittens has a contract with Dortmund until 2028 and the German club is reportedly demanding €65 million to release him.
"I assume that his market value will not fall," Kehl said.

Boca Juniors defender Ayrton Costa to miss Club World Cup after being denied US visa
Associated Press BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Boca Juniors defender Ayrton Costa will miss the Club World Cup after he was denied a visa to enter the United States, the Argentine team said Thursday. Costa did not make the trip to Miami with his teammates on Sunday because his visa application was still being processed at the U.S. embassy in Buenos Aires, but he was still included on the roster to play in the tournament that starts Saturday. Boca Juniors confirmed that the 25-year-old Costa was denied a visa, but did not provide details on the reasons. Costa was involved in a criminal case over an attempted robbery in 2018 in Bernal, Argentina. His absence leaves coach Miguel Russo without one of his expected starters for the match against Benfica on Monday in the team's Group C opener. The group also includes Bayern Munich and Auckland City of New Zealand. Also, defender Marco Pellegrino, who signed ahead of the Club World Cup, is recovering from a muscle tear. Harvey Elliott helps England make winning start in Euro Under-21 against Czechs
In a week that England's senior side have hardly covered themselves in glory, perhaps the under-21s could make it another memorable summer? While Lee Carsley has played down his youthful squad's chances of emulating Dave Sexton's back-to-back triumphs in becoming European champions in 1982 and 1984, a convincing and mature victory over a boisterously backed Czech Republic team hinted that it may not be beyond the realms of possibility. Goals from Harvey Elliott and Charlie Cresswell sandwiched by another from Jonathan Rowe were enough to allow England to take a commanding position in Group B after brief hopes of a comeback from the Czech Republic. Victory over Slovenia, who were beaten 3-0 by Germany in their opening match, on Sunday would assure a place in the quarter-finals. But while Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson managed to pick up a booking after just 17 seconds for a misjudged tackle, England made an encouraging start with the captain, James McAtee, employed as a false 9 in the absence of Liam Delap, who is one of several players missing due to Club World Cup commitments. Omari Hutchinson forced Czech Republic goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek into a reaction save at his near post before Vaclav Sejk was inches away from connecting with a cross that fizzed across the face of goal at the other end. It didn't take long for Nwaneri to make an impact, producing a cheeky nutmeg before setting off on a mazy run that saw his shot deflect just wide. Cresswell sealed the victory minutes later when he headed in Scott's corner to give Carsley the perfect start.
