Madhubani: Police on Monday arrested two people accused of raping a minor girl in a village in Madhubani district. SP Yogendra Kumar, said the two accused, identified through CCTV footage, forcibly took the girl on a motorcycle to an isolated location along NH27, where they allegedly raped her.
The girl confided in her mother, who initially approached the village panchayat for justice. The panchayat decided on a compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh for the victim's family, but, dissatisfied with it, the mother took the matter to the police on Monday.

1 2 Pune: The city crime branch on Saturday arrested three men involved in robbing gold jewellery worth Rs 30,000 from a jewellery store in Sainathnagar in Wadgaon Sheri. The men had threatened the store owner with a sharp weapon and a firearm. Crime branch (unit IV) senior inspector Ajay Waghmare said, "We established the identity of the robbers from the CCTV footage and took them into custody from their hideout in Indiranagar in Gultekdi following a tip-off." The arrested men were identified as mastermind Ganesh Lagas (37), Sunny Khandekar (24), and Anil Visare (26), all residents of Upper Indiranagar in Gultekdi. Lagas induced his friends Khandekar and Visare to assist him in robbing the jeweller for fast money. "Analysis of CCTV footage revealed that Lagas was riding a scooter, while his accomplices were pillion. We have recovered the scooter and transferred the custody of the robbers to the Chandannagar police for further action," Waghmare added. Senior inspector Seema Dhakane of the Chandannagar policesaid the jeweller attacked the robbers with a stool and raised an alarm after they walked into the store and demanded jewellery. "But the robbers threatened him with weapons and robbed two earrings. They fled the spot after the incident created commotion," Dhakane said. An FIR relating to the robbery was registered. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Latur police arrested on Aug 3 members of a criminal gang that targeted grocery shops and stole premium items. They recovered property and vehicles worth Rs 24.8 lakh. Latur SP Amol Tambe said the accused are habitual offenders with a clear modus operandi — exclusively targeting grocery shops at night for costly articles. Police also linked the gang to thefts in Beed, Parbhani, and Karnataka's Bidar district. Search operations are ongoing to nab the remaining suspects. It started with foiling the gang's plan of an armed dacoity in Bhada police station limits on Aug 3. According to the police, some residents spotted the gang members moving suspiciously that night. A joint team of Bhada police and villagers chased down the suspects, nabbing five of the 8. They were caught travelling in a goods carrier and were armed with sharp weapons and other tools used for shop burglaries. Three other members managed to escape. Bhopal: A special court under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in Raisen district has sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting and impregnating his minor daughter. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000. Case records state that the convict's wife had died during the Covid-19 lockdown, after which he began living alone with his daughter. The abuse took place over a prolonged period, leading to her pregnancy. The incident came to light in Nov 2024 when the minor, complaining of abdominal pain, was taken to the district hospital and was found to be pregnant. She delivered a child the same day. A DNA test confirmed the convict as the biological father of the newborn. The prosecution submitted that the assaults occurred over several years, and the last incident took place a few months before the birth. Based on the testimony of witnesses and the forensic report, the court found the accused guilty. In its judgment, the court noted that the case involved a grave breach of trust by a guardian and warranted exemplary punishment.
