Nic Cage Is Raging and Vengeful in THE SURFER Trailer
Here's a quick synopsis before you get into the clip:
In the psychological thriller directed by Lorcan Finnegan, a man returns to the idyllic beach of his childhood to surf with his son. But his desire to hit the waves is thwarted by a group of locals whose mantra is 'don't live here, don't surf here.' Humiliated and angry, the man is drawn into a conflict that keeps rising in concert with the punishing heat of the summer and pushes him to his breaking point.
The Surfer trailer is anxiety inducing, to say the least. It has fitting summer vibes for its release in May. It's safe to say this film does not have the same humor elements as one of my favorite Cage films, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. However, like most Nic Cage, films it has a little touch of weirdness that the film doesn't shy away from. I am getting a cross between Midsommar and Teen Beach Movie.
Cage has been on a wave of interesting films lately. He seems to really just be picking what he finds the most fun and interesting. In my opinion, Nic Cage does best when he picks roles that allow him to be as quirky as possible. Case in point, when he played Professor Paul Matthews in Dream Scenario.
Starring alongside Cage is Julian McMahon, Nic Cassim, Miranda Tapsell, Alexander Bertrand, and Justin Rosniak. The film is directed by Lorcan Finnegan, an Irish filmmaker most known for the film Vivarium, a surrealist sci-fi horror. Catch The Surfer in theaters May 2, and maybe if you live near the coast you can also catch some waves.

Been there, done that. Director Quentin Tarantino, 62, has finally revealed why he decided to scrap 'The Movie Critic' as his 10th and final film. 'No one's waiting for this thing, per se,' the famous filmmaker began on Friday's episode of 'The Church of Tarantino' podcast. 'I mean, I can do it whenever I want. I mean, it's already written. 'It's a little crazy to listen to podcasts and hear all these amateur psychiatrists psychoanalyze as if they f–king know what they're talking about about what's going on with me, about how I'm so scared, alright, of my 10th film,' Tarantino said. ''Oh my god! Oh my god! I'm so fragile about my legacy. What's going on? I'm paralyzed with fear!,'' he concluded. 'I'm not paralyzed with fear. Trust me.'

Spike Lee and Denzel Washington reunite for the fifth time in Highest 2 Lowest, a modern reimagining of Akira Kurosawa's revered 1963 thriller High and Low. Set in present-day New York, Lee casts Washington as David King, a music mogul pulled into a high-stakes ransom plot. Today's theatrical release arrives after the film premiered at Cannes Film Festival, where it earned a six-minute standing ovation (and a rare Rihanna red carpet appearance). This marks Washington and Lee's first film together since 2006's Inside Man, a collaboration Washington says was built on deep mutual trust. 'There was only one person to do this. And I'm sitting next to him,' the actor recently told Vanity Fair. Lee approached the project as 'a jazz reinterpretation of a great film,' adding, 'I knew if I was to do this, it had to be a reimagining. And it was right up my alley—a big, fat, juicy one coming down the middle of the plate. And I feel like I knocked it out.' Washington sees the project as long overdue in his career. 'In [most of] the time I've been an actor, I wouldn't even have been allowed to play a part like this. No white directors were hiring us, and no studios were hiring us,' he told Vanity Fair. 'That's why I called Spike. I trust Spike, and he trusts me.' Lee hopes audiences catch the film on the biggest screen possible. 'No matter how big that TV on the wall in your home is, see it in theaters first,' he says. Washington added, 'In the theaters, in the theaters, in the theaters. I'll keep saying August 15.' Not yet, but soon. After debuting in theaters today, the film will land on Apple TV+ on Sept. 5, 2025, just 19 days later. Until then, you'll need to catch it during its theatrical run. When 'Americana' Will Be Available to Stream and How to Watch
A lot of summer blockbusters have been released lately, like Superman, Jurassic World Rebirth, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. But if you're looking for something a little smaller and a little less CGI, you might want to check out the Western-thriller-heist film Americana. The debut feature from director Tony Tost is about a group of people in South Dakota, who are all trying to get their hands on a valuable Lakota ghost shirt said to be worth a million dollars. The cast includes Sydney Sweeney, Halsey, Paul Walter Hauser, Zahn McClarnon, and Simon Rex. Curious to see pop singer Halsey in an acting role? Intrigued by the idea of Sweeney playing a diner waitress/wannabe country singer? Read on to find out when and where you can check out Americana. Americana will be in theaters starting Friday, August 15. As is usually the case with theatrical releases, early showings will start in many cinemas the day before. But while Americana is hitting theaters now, it's actually a 2023 movie. It premiered at South by Southwest two years ago. According to Deadline, the delay may have been due to financial issues involving one of the film's production companies. If you want to watch Americana at your local theater—woohoo, popcorn! woohoo, helping movie theaters stay in business!—simply look up the showtimes and get going. You can buy tickets from your theater's website, on Fandango, or in person. You will be able to watch Americana at home, it's just a question of when. Americana is distributed by Lionsgate. The John Wick spinoff Ballerina, which was also distributed by Lionsgate, was made available on Video-on-Demand (meaning, you can pay to rent it on a platform like Amazon Prime Video) about a month after its theatrical release. You can expect something similar for Americana. As for streaming, Lionsgate movies tend to go to Starz first, followed by Peacock. To again use Ballerina as a reference point, it premiered in theaters June 6 and is not streaming on either of those platforms as of mid-August.
