
T-Mobile CEO Sievert reveals which of his rivals' customers he is gunning for

Some of those good feelings were directed at T-Mobile customers. Sievert said, "The quality of our customers continues to improve at a rapid pace." And speaking of quality, the quality of the T-Mobile network was also discussed. With accolades heaped on T-Mobile 's network, most recently by Ookla with its Speedtest Connectivity Report for the U.S. during the first half of this year, Sievert knows exactly which of his rivals' customers he is going after. If you said AT&T, go to the corner and stand there, looking at the wall, for the rest of the day. The rival carrier Sievert is talking about is Verizon. And things will only improve for T-Mobile . On August 1st, T-Mobile will close on its acquisition of UScellular's nearly 4 million customers, its retail stores, and 30% of its spectrum in the 600 MHz, 700 MHz A Block, PCS, AWS, 2.5 GHz, and 24 GHz (mmWave) frequencies. The executive said that the T-Mobile network will get better after the deal closes. T-Mobile will pay $2.4 billion in cash and assume $2 billion of UScellular debt to acquire its assets.
Sievert added that the new T-Satellite service is off to a great start. Over 250,000 emergency texts were sent during the floods in Texas. Speaking with Yahoo Finance, Sievert was asked why T-Mobile isn't taking advantage of its success by raising prices. He stated that T-Mobile customers are moving up to pricier rate plans on their own. He said, "The highest rate plans we offer that are packed with the most value for customers, have doubled in their popularity over the past year. I mean, that's amazing. In one year, they've doubled in their popularity."
Before you T-Mobile customers get totally relaxed, Sievert isn't completely ruling out a rate hike. "We're open-minded about it over the long haul," he said, "But I'd much rather attract people up the rate card with fantastic value." He also said that in the past, consumers choosing a wireless carrier had to choose between choosing between the best network and the best value. He says that it is unprecedented that one company can offer both. Of course, he is talking about T-Mobile .

Has T-Mobile 's "all-in-one" T-Life app started to grow on you after the "Un-carrier" (more or less) clarified that big privacy controversy from a couple of months ago while adding (or bringing back) some highly requested features? Until then, you'll obviously be allowed to continue using your existing debit card and account "as usual", which is certainly nice of T-Mobile . Once the Money app disappears, you won't technically be forced to migrate to T-Life either (which is also nice), as the T-Mobile Money website will live on and let you access "all your banking needs" from any device. Then again, the user experience is likely to greatly differ between the two ways to access the T-Mobile Money service, and perhaps more importantly, the mobile network operator will offer you a key benefit to embrace the move to T-Life. We're talking 4 percent APY (Annual Percentage Yield) on your entire checking account balance through November 30, 2025, which is significantly better than the current 2.5 percent rate. CPU on the current iPhone line performs 385 times better than the one that powered first iPhone
The iPhone has undoubtedly come a long way since it was first released more than five years ago. There is no question that the world changed with the launch of the iPhone on June 29, 2007. As the proud owner of the OG iPhone in 2007, I could see that once Apple replaced the iPhone's connectivity with AT&T's slow-as-molasses EDGE with cutting-edge 3G speeds, the device would become a mobile monster. Things were so slow with EDGE connectivity that the only way to watch a YouTube video clearly was when you could find a Wi-Fi connection around you. Even worse, if you were using the Safari browser, you could not make or receive a call at the same time. If someone tried to call you while you were checking out the New York Times website, for example, your incoming calls went right to voicemail. In the case of an emergency, that is not good. The OG iPhone was also equipped with 128MB of RAM compared to 8GB on all iPhone 16 models (for Apple Intelligence purposes). The rear camera on the OG iPhone was 2MP compared to the 48MP Wide camera on the iPhone 16 Pro Max (along with the 48MP Ultra-wide camera and the 12MP Telephoto camera). What about the processor? The original iPhone was powered by an ARM11-based SoC from Samsung with a clock speed of 412MHz. For the iPhone 3GS released in 2009, Apple used an ARM Cortex-A8 core Samsung CPU (APL0298C05). Apple moved to a 64-bit architecture for the first time with the A7 chipset used to power the iPhone 5S in 2013. The chip was built by Samsung. The next year, Apple made a shift to TSMC for the A8 chipset used on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. This SoC was built on TSMC's 20nm process node. The A9 was a bit unusual since both Samsung and TSMC built the chipset for Apple. The latter built it on its 16nm process node while Samsung used its 14nm process. Despite Samsung's use of a slightly more advanced process node, one benchmark test revealed that TSMC's version of the A9 SoC provided iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus users as much as two additional hours of battery life. This led to the so-called "Chipgate" scandal, and some of those buying new iPhones were demanding a model using TSMC's chipset. We even showed you how to determine which SoC was inside your iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus. Apple said the actual variation in battery life between the two chipsets was 2%-3% in TSMC's favor and this was actually backed up by benchmark tests. According to Japanese tech blog PC Watch, using Geekbench to monitor the performance of iPhone CPUs, starting with the OG model in 2007, there is an annual improvement rate of 40%. Overall, from the OG iPhone to the iPhone 16 series, the iPhone CPU has increased in performance by 384.9x. With the improvements we could see with the A19/A19 Pro application processors, the improvement from the OG iPhone to the latest iPhone series could take the improvement to 500x or higher. The A19/A19 Pro will both be built using TSMC's third-generation 3nm process node. Next year's A20 application processor should be the first A-series chips built by TSMC using its 2nm process node. As the process node gets smaller, so does the size of the transistors used on a chip. That increases the transistor density, which measures the number of transistors that can be packed into a specific area of a chip. This number is expressed as millions of transistors per square millimeter (MTx/mm²). A higher transistor density means a chip is, in theory, more powerful and energy efficient than chips with a lower transistor density. After 2nm, TSMC is expected to start mass production of 1.4nm chips during the second half of 2028.

UScellular gets a new name once the T-Mobile deal closes August 1st
This Friday, August 1st, the transaction between T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular will close. T-Mobile is paying $2.4 billion in cash and will assume $2 billion of UScellular debt. In return, 4 million UScellular customers will move to Team Magenta, and T-Mobile will also take possession of UScellular's retail stores and 30% of its spectrum in the 600 MHz, 700 MHz A Block, PCS, AWS, 2.5 GHz, and 24 GHz (mmWave) frequencies. Thanks to the additional spectrum being received, the transaction will improve T-Mobile 's network, especially in rural America. But what will happen to UScellular, once the fifth-largest wireless carrier in the country? First of all, UScellular will be getting a new name and some new executives. As soon as the deal closes this coming Friday, Douglas W. Chambers will become the interim President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the post-closing business, which will be named Array Digital Infrastructure, Inc. The company's business will focus on a portfolio of 4,400 towers owned by Array, along with its holdings of the remaining spectrum after T-Mobile takes over the agreed-upon airwaves. Chambers, currently UScellular's Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, will oversee the operations and strategic initiatives related to the towers and the airwaves belonging to Array. Chambers says, "I am honored to assume the role of interim CEO of Array at this pivotal time for the company, We have a great opportunity ahead of us and I look forward to working with the Board and our management team to continue to strengthen our tower business, seek opportunities to monetize our retained spectrum, and work towards closing the announced spectrum transactions." As part of the shakeup, UScellular will be changing its New York Stock Exchange symbol from USM to AD. The USM symbol had been used by UScellular since it went public back in 1988. To go along with the name change, the company will introduce a new website and a new logo. The firm will remain headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. -LeRoy T.
