Delhi Assembly Monsoon Session to run on 100% solar power in push for green energy
This milestone makes the Delhi Assembly the first in the country to operate solely on solar energy.
Speaking at the inauguration of the solar plant and the new e-Vidhan initiative, which aims to make the Assembly paperless, Mr. Meghwal said, 'Delhi Assembly will be the first where sustainability, self-reliance, and digital empowerment go hand in hand. This fusion of climate responsibility and administrative reform must begin at the heart of democratic institutions.'

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta described the initiative as a model for how legislative institutions can champion environmental stewardship. Highlighting the historic significance of the Assembly building, constructed in 1912 and once home to the country's first Parliament, Mr. Gupta said it is 'an example of how tradition and progress can go together'.
He said that the rooftop solar project is expected to yield savings of up to ₹15 lakh per month, or approximately ₹1.75 crore annually, with potential surplus electricity generation through net metering. 'The financial savings generated through solar energy will be reinvested in developmental work for the welfare of Delhi's people,' the Speaker said.
The Monsoon Session's opening day will also see the tabling of two reports from the Comptroller and Auditor General of India: State Finances for the year 2023-24, and Welfare of Building and Other Construction Workers for the year ending March 2023.
In a key development in education policy, Minister of Education Ashish Sood is set to introduce the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Bill, 2025, which aims to regulate fee hikes in private schools across the Capital.
A trial run of the new e-Vidhan (paperless) system is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Monday, with the official sitting of the House at 2:00 p.m. to be conducted entirely on solar power, without using electricity from conventional sources.

Participants in the protest included environmentalists, students, and concerned citizens from Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Jamshedpur: Prominent politicians from Kolhan on Monday paid rich tributes to Shibu Soren and recalled their first meeting with him. Former CM Arjun Munda , who started his political career with JMM before switching to the BJP, said he was drawn to Shibu in the 1980s. "The charisma of Disom Guru Shibu Soren was like a magnetic pull, which drew me closer to his agitation, against the money lenders and land grabbers, as a schoolboy in the 1980s," he said. Recalling that his family too was a victim of land sharks, Munda, a former Union minister, said a fire was kindled in him as a young boy when he heard about Shibu, a man from Santhal Pargana, who was taking the pain to ensure that adivasi land is not grabbed by crafty money lenders "I physically first saw Guruji during a public rally in Telco area of Jamshedpur, where thousands of Adivasis had gathered to hear their leader, who promised to fight for their rights. As one of the key architects of Jharkhand's statehood movement, he transformed decades of Adivasi assertion into a political force that gave birth to a new state.' Telangana Chief Minister and Congress leader Revanth Reddy hailed Soren's struggles for the formation of Jharkhand and his efforts to address the problems of tribals. JD(U) leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said Soren's 'significant contribution to Jharkhand's politics is noteworthy'. 'His passing has caused an irreparable loss not only to Jharkhand but also to the political and social spheres of the entire country,' Kumar wrote. RJD president Lalu Prasad spoke of 'memories of our joint struggles' for achieving 'social justice and empowerment of deprived classes'. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the former Jharkhand chief minister dedicated his life to the upliftment of tribal society. BJD chief and former Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik, said Soren would be remembered for his dedicated fight for the rights of tribal and marginalised people. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said Soren was a towering figure in Indian politics and a dedicated statesman who served the people with unwavering commitment.
