Morocco : 30 years after the first edition, the HCP launches the National Family Survey

Thirty years after its first edition in 1995, the High Commission for Planning (HCP) is launching the data collection phase of the National Family Survey 2025, which will be conducted in the field until the end of September this year. According to a statement, the process involves «a sample of 14,000 households, representative of both urban and rural areas as well as all regions» of the country. The aim is to gather data «on the structure, organization, and dynamics of Moroccan families» to «better understand the transformations» and assess their effects «on the demographic, socio-economic, and cultural behaviors of the population».
At the same time, this process will «provide an integrated database to better support the development of public policies in the areas of social development, intergenerational solidarity, education, housing, and equal opportunities», the same source adds, emphasizing «the confidentiality of the personal data collected».
In this context, the statistical institution has called for «strong participation from the households that will be approached to ensure the success of this national operation», the results of which will shed more light on family realities in Morocco and support appropriate family policies, in line with concrete needs.

Mohamed Tops List of Most Common Surnames in Ceuta
Doha – Mohamed has secured the top position as the most common surname in Ceuta, according to data released by the Spanish National Statistics Institute (INE) for 2024. According to local media, a total of 7,750 residents of the Spanish North African enclave carry Mohamed as their first surname, while 7,479 have it as their second surname. Additionally, 1,731 people in Ceuta have the double surname combination of Mohamed Mohamed. The Spanish surname García takes third place with 2,217 and 2,059 people having it as first and second surnames respectively. Eid al Adha: Morocco Announces Recommendations for Safe Road Travel
Rabat – The Moroccan National Motorway Company (ADM) has warned that the motorway network will experience a significant increase in traffic during the Eid al Adha holiday. The highway authority said it offers a series of recommendations to ensure travelers' safety, noting that heavy traffic could be expected on Thursday and Friday between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. Traffic could also be high on Monday, June 9, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., said the same source. The statement urged travelers to plan their trips in advance, check real-time traffic conditions by downloading the ADM Traffic app. In addition, the Moroccan authority called on citizens to verify and recharge their Jawaz Pass balance before using the motorway. Eid al-Adha : Inmates can receive family visits but without meal baskets
On the occasion of Eid al-Adha, the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR) announced that, starting the Monday following Eid, inmates in Moroccan penitentiaries will be allowed visits from family, friends, as well as representatives from diplomatic and consular missions for foreign detainees. However, these visits will not include the delivery of food parcels. Additionally, a special meal program will be provided to the inmates during this period, the Delegation stated in a press release on Wednesday. Given the deep religious and social significance of Eid al-Adha in Moroccan society, the celebration will take place within the prisons without performing the sacrificial ritual. This decision respects the royal directive to abstain from carrying out the Eid sacrifice, the statement added.
