The world's first ethanol-to-jet fuel production plant, developed by LanzaJet Inc, is expected to start operations by the end of September, following multiple delays.As per Bloomberg, the $200 million facility, located in Soperton, Georgia, was initially scheduled to begin production last year.Chief Executive Officer Jimmy Samartzis confirmed the revised timeline in an interview, attributing the most recent delay to equipment issues not related to the core technology. 'My hope is that by the end of the third quarter we are fully operating,' he said.'The modifications we made to the equipment that was hindering us, unrelated to the technology itself, should satisfy what we need.'LanzaJet received funding from the US government to develop the plant, which is being watched as a test case for the broader ethanol-to-jet fuel sector.Although the company imported Brazilian sugar-cane ethanol in 2023 to pilot production, it has not yet sold any of its sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on the open market.Production will begin using Brazilian ethanol, despite the company being ineligible for the Inflation Reduction Act's 45Z tax credit.Under current rules, only SAF made from North American feedstocks qualifies, and the ethanol must reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50 per cent. Most US corn-based ethanol does not meet this threshold.'There is only a scant amount of US product that meets the required threshold,' Samartzis said. He added that LanzaJet plans to transition to American feedstocks and is advocating for a lower emissions-reduction requirement of 30 per cent.Since 2021, when US authorities set a target of producing 3 billion gallons of SAF annually by 2030, the domestic market has grown more than sevenfold to 38.7 million gallons in 2024, according to official data.LanzaJet's Georgia facility is expected to produce 10 million gallons of SAF and renewable diesel annually once fully operational.

India opens new consular application centre in Dallas to serve growing diaspora
Agencies The Consulate General of India in Houston has announced the launch of a new Indian Consular Application Centre (ICAC) in Dallas, Texas, bringing essential consular services closer to thousands of Indian-origin residents in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. The new centre, located at 8360 Lyndon B Johnson Freeway, Suite A-230, was virtually inaugurated by India's Ambassador to the United States Vinay Kwatra. The Dallas ceremony was led by Consul General D C Manjunath, who was joined by local elected officials and Indian-American community members. The Dallas ICAC is among nine such centres being opened across the United States to enhance accessibility to consular services. Other locations include Boston, Columbus, Detroit, Edison, Orlando, Raleigh, San Jose and an upcoming centre in Los Angeles. "The launch of these new consular application centres across the US is part of our mission to serve the Indian diaspora more effectively by bringing services closer to their homes," Ambassador Kwatra said during the virtual inauguration. "We remain committed to strengthening the ties between India and its global community." Consul General D C Manjunath said, "Dallas has a large and dynamic Indian community. Opening this ICAC means residents can now access vital consular services quickly without travelling to Houston. It's truly bringing the Consulate to your doorstep." Local elected officials also welcomed the move. Texas State Representative Vikki Goodwin commented, "This new consular centre is an important resource for our Indian-American neighbours, making government services more accessible and convenient." Dallas Indian Association president Rajesh Mehta said, "The ICAC is a game changer for Dallas-area residents. It shows India's dedication to its diaspora and makes a real difference in people's lives." The centre offers services including passport, visa, Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) applications, power of attorney, birth and marriage certificates, attestations, police clearance certificates for foreign nationals, No Obligation to Return to India (NORI), and life certificates, among others. According to the data cited by The Hindustan Times, crude oil imports surged a whopping 51 per cent in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period. The energy commitment reflects New Delhi's bid to rebalance trade ties with Washington, DC, which has been one of the key demands of the Trump administration from India. The data also reflected that India's Liquefied natural gas imports have nearly doubled from $1.41 billion in FY2023-24 to $2.46 billion in FY2024-25. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD It is pertinent to note that this rise in energy imports followed a February Agreement signed between Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the latter's visit to the US. At that time, both leaders committed to expanding energy cooperation. India went on to pledge to boost American energy imports to $25 billion from $15 billion in 2024, while bilateral trade is targeted to more than double from $200 billion to $500 billion by 2030. Indian companies tap into the American energy sector According to the data cited by The Hindustan Times, Indian purchases from America jumped 114 per cent to $3.7 billion in the first quarter of FY2025-26 from $1.73 billion in the same period the previous year. 'This trend is increasing further from July this year. So, in July 2025, India imported 23 per cent more crude oil from the US compared to June 2025. Also, in India's overall crude imports, while the US share was earlier only 3 per cent, in July that share increased to 8 per cent,' one of the people who analysed the data told The Hindustan Times. Not only this, American LNG has also emerged as an attractive market for Indian companies. 'Buying LNG from America is a very attractive proposition for many Indian companies,' said Prashant Vashisht, senior vice president at ratings agency ICRA, told the Indian news outlet. The jump came after Trump reversed former US President Joe Biden's pause on processing LNG export licences soon after taking office. Amid this rise, the US Energy Information Administration expects North America's LNG export capacity to double by 2028, with the US providing most of the increase. India's growing appetite for American energy is also coming at a time when the country is poised to become the largest driver of oil demand in the world. According to the International Energy Agency, India will surpass China as the major driver of global oil demand growth by 2030, with LNG demand expected to jump 78 per cent to reach 64 billion cubic metres annually.

Signs of a sluggish job market and the risk of a reacceleration in inflation due to higher import duties are dueling forces dividing Federal Reserve officials over the path of interest rates.
