Harry and Meghan extend Netflix deal amid plans for new content

Euronews5 days ago
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have renewed their partnership with Netflix in a fresh multi-year deal, continuing their collaboration through Archewell Productions.
The couple say the agreement reflects their mission to create 'thoughtful content across genres that resonates globally.'
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed the extension on Monday (11 August), with Netflix gaining first-look rights on upcoming projects. The renewed deal includes the return of "With Love, Meghan", a lifestyle and cooking series starring the Duchess of Sussex, as well as a new documentary short Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within, which centres on an orphanage in Uganda.
'My husband and I feel inspired by our partners who work closely with us and our Archewell Productions team to create thoughtful content across genres that resonates globally, and celebrates our shared vision,' Meghan said in a statement.
Also on the slate is Meet Me at the Lake, a feature adaptation of Carley Fortune's romantic novel about a decade-spanning love story sparked by a chance encounter.

This latest agreement is a continuation of Harry and Meghan's post-royal streaming ventures, which began with a widely publicised Netflix partnership in 2020 – reported at the time to be worth around $100 million (€86.2 million).
Previous Archewell-produced projects for the streaming platform include the docuseries Harry & Meghan, Heart of Invictus, Live to Lead, and Polo.
Bela Bajaria, Netflix's chief content officer, praised the couple's storytelling efforts: 'Harry and Meghan are influential voices whose stories resonate with audiences everywhere. The response to their work speaks for itself.'
But not all of that response has been glowing.
While Harry & Meghan performed strongly with 23.4 million viewers following its 2022 debut, "With Love, Meghan" has had a rockier journey. Despite being billed by Netflix as its most-watched culinary show this year, it pulled in just 5.3 million views – placing it outside the platform's top 300 most-viewed shows in the first half of 2025.
Critics did not hold back. Reviews of the first series called the show 'out of touch', and its polished, curated aesthetic drew ridicule across social media platforms.
Memes and TikToks poked fun at the former actress's on-screen persona, with some viewers calling the series overly staged.
Still, Netflix is backing a second season – set to air later this month – as well as a holiday special in December, inviting audiences to 'join Meghan in Montecito for a magical holiday celebration.' The series is also linked to her lifestyle brand, As Ever, which includes products like rosé wine and jams.

How Taylor Swift's new era sparked the biggest branding trend of 2025

ADVERTISEMENT 'The Life of a Showgirl' era is upon us, and it has once again revealed to what extent Taylor Swift is a modern day pop Stakhanovite. After all, who can deny that she's the hardest-working star in the business, with her upcoming album being her ninth of the 2020s (when you count the re-recorded albums)? The announcement of her newest record, which hits shelves on 3 October, also shows that she continues to be a marketing genius. The carefully orchestrated rollout for the pop superstar's 12th album started on Tuesday, at precisely 12:12am ET. It was teased with a trailer for her partner's podcast, with only the title of the new opus offered up. The album image was blurred, and all fans could see was a mint-green briefcase labelled 'T.S.'. It was clear from the get-go that the colours orange and green were dominant, but beyond that and a few teaser images with a glittery orange padlock, nothing. Then came the release of the full 'New Heights' podcast episode, and all the questions were answered: what the cover looked like, when it was coming out, the reasoning behind the colour palette, what sort of sourdough Taylor prefers... Everything. Fans went into full meltdown mode, dissecting all the Easter eggs and clues regarding the release, prepping their outfits for a potential Showgirl tour, and even scrapbooking. The cultural earthquake had well and truly hit, and even the Empire State Building joined in, glowing in the upcoming album's signature orange tint. But because this isn't just show business – it's fully business - this week has seen countless major companies going into marketing overdrive following the announcement of 'The Life of a Showgirl', predominantly because of Swift's ability to generate buzz. Oh, and dollars. Them too. It has been well documented that Swift's record-breaking Eras Tour was a real economic event. The tour became the first to cross the billion-dollar mark and cities (and their surrounding areas) registered sizeable economic boosts after Swift stopped by. It's a gravitational pull that companies can no longer afford to ignore, and the way many have sought to capitalize on this year's orange-themed album rollout has been out in full force. Memes and posts from big brands, corportations and even tourism boards began exploding almost immediately. Everyone got in on it, from United Airlines to ALDI, via Netflix, Starbucks, McDonalds, Duolingo, Walmart, FedEx, NHL teams... Honestly, there are too many to mention at this point – trust us, they ALL started riding the TayTay wave. Even Google and X got in on the action, with the search engine showering those who type 'Taylor Swift' with digital orange confetti, an orange heart and the phrase 'And baby, that's show business for you', while Elon Musk's platform declared that it had a new profile pic... Views and likes on some of these posts skyrocketed, with some going to 6 million and upwards. So, what are the lessons to be learned from this global phenomenon? A) Even a simple colour palette can spark a global marketing trend / branding tidal wave. B) Cynical though it undeniably is, there's strategic commercial value in being reactive and tying your brand to Swift. Swifties aren't just music fans – they're potential customers, ones that are only too happy to see their favourite star's branding popping up everywhere. C) Taylor Swift isn't just a musician who writes great pop songs, performs like no one else and controls her narrative via carefully crafted cryptic marketing and fan-pleasing breadcrumb trails – she's a full-blown entrepreneur. Whether you like her music or not, she's a cultural trendsetter who can dominate fashion trends, tourism economies and even political discourse. To underestimate her influence or reach is to be very foolish indeed. And regardless of the quality of her new album – some of us have our doubts – there's no doubt about it: You don't have to wait until the beginning of October to be in Taylor's new era. It's already begun. We are all just living in it.

A fermented fancy: Why is Pamela Anderson selling pickles?

2025 is turning out to be the year of the Pamelanaissance. The former Baywatch star wowed us in The Last Showgirl, a film which made our Top Movies of Far – and which may or may not have inspired Taylor Swift for the title of her new album. Then there was her starring turn in Naked Gun, in which she shines opposite Liam Neeson. Now, there's a bit of a pivot: Anderson is moving from the set to the pantry, as she's selling artisanal pickles. Yes, you read that correctly. The 58 year-old actress and pop culture icon has teamed up with Los Angeles lifestyle brand Flamingo Estate on a limited-edition release, 'Pamela's Pickles' - jars of spicy and floral pickles retailing at $38 (€32) a pop. Apparently, the base recipe comes from Anderson's great-aunt Vie. The actress added a personal flourish with dried rose petals, while Flamingo Estate layered in pink peppercorn, guajillo chile and smoky sea salt, along with regenerative organic Espelette pepper. Doesn't sound too bad... But why in fermented hell is Pamela Anderson selling them? What with her recent big screen renaissance, surely things can't be that bad? Well, it's all for a good cause as 100 per cent of the proceeds from the vegan pickles will be donated to the California Wildlife Center (CWC), a wildlife medical treatment and rehabilitation facility that provides medical care for more than 4,000 wild animals each year. So it's a bigger dill than just another celebrity hawking prepaid budget wireless providers or peddling vagina-scented candles. Une publication partagée par Flamingo Estate, Los Angeles (@flamingo_estate) The new pickled product comes days after Anderson responded to comparisons made between her cookery series, Pamela's Cooking with Love (on Prime Video), and Meghan Markle's With Love, Meghan (Netflix). Both shows debuted earlier this year, with Anderson's series debuting one week before Markle's. Last week, during the show Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Anderson was asked if Markle had copied her. 'On a scale from one to 10, how much of a rip-off did you feel like With Love, Meghan was of your show, Pamela's Cooking with Love?," Cohen asked the actress. Anderson replied: 'One – I didn't. (...) I didn't invent cooking shows. She's just doing her thing.' Euronews Culture has watched both shows, and we can safely say that Anderson's is the superior one. At least she doesn't create asinine welcome baskets masquerading as lifestyle hacks in which she cracks open a bag of store-bought pretzels only to transfer them into a clear bag with a handwritten label that makes it look like the duchess has actually made an effort. Elsewhere, Anderson has recently hit the headlines for her rumoured romance with Liam Neeson. The two actors have reportedly become the new 'it couple" of 2025, and the internet has been going wild over the A-list liaison. Their love affair recently got some backing from Oscar-winner Jamie Lee Curtis. The Freakier Friday star, who starred alongside Anderson in The Last Showgirl, told VT in an interview: 'With all due respect to pop culture, if love has found [its] way into that relationship - God bless them both - leave them the f*ck alone.' She added: 'Both of them have had hardship, and they're both beautiful human beings. If they actually have found an intimate love with each other, we should all go to bed tonight feeling better.' Feeling better... and with pickles in our online shopping cart.

Queen B was listed as one of a half dozen people on a team that won the Emmy for Best Costumes for Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Programming for 'Beyoncé Bowl', her Western-themed halftime show on Netflix's Christmas NFL game between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans. The award was among a handful of so-called juried Emmys announced yesterday that are determined outside the regular voting process and given out by committees, with no official nominees. They are usually highly technical and are announced in advance. The awards will be handed out at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony which will take place on 7 September - one week before the 2025 Primetime Emmys. Beyoncé has been nominated for 10 other Emmys in the past but never won - making this special Emmy her first.
