Rao praised Syama Prasad Mookerjee as the founder of the Jan Sangh and the architect of the 'one nation, one law' vision.
He said the abrogation of Article 370 is a significant tribute to Mookerjee's nationalist ideals, which continue to inspire BJP workers and people across India.
Speaking to ANI, N Ramchander Rao said, 'Syama Prasad Mookerjee is the founder of the Jan Sangh and laid the roadmap for 'one nation, one law.' Today, the entire country appreciates his thoughts and ideas. Therefore, the abrogation of Article 370 is a great tribute to him. Today, the workers of the BJP and the people of this country remember Syama Prasad Mookerjee for his nationalist views and ideas.'
Syama Prasad Mookerjee was the founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the ideological parent organisation of the BJP.
Born on July 6, 1901, in Calcutta, was a multifaceted personality, patriot, educationist, parliamentarian, statesman, and humanitarian. He inherited a legacy of erudition and nationalism from his father, Sir Ashutosh Mookerjee, an esteemed Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University and Judge of the Calcutta High Court.
In 1940, he became the acting President of the Hindu Mahasabha and declared complete independence for India as its political goal.
Mookerjee resigned from the Bengal Cabinet in November 1942, protesting against the Governor's interference in administration and criticising provincial autonomy as ineffective.
His humanitarian efforts during the Bengal famine of 1943, including relief initiatives, highlighted his commitment to serving society.
Post-Independence, he joined the interim government under Jawaharlal Nehru as Minister for Industry and Supply, where he laid the foundation for India's industrial growth by establishing iconic institutions like the Chittaranjan Locomotive Factory, Sindri Fertiliser Corporation and Hindustan.
However, ideological differences led to his resignation, after which he founded the All-India Bharatiya Jan Sangh (1951) to champion nationalist ideals.
According to the BJP's official website, on the issue of the Delhi pact with Liaquat Ali Khan, Mookerjee resigned from the Cabinet on April 6, 1950. Later, on October 21, 1951, Mookerjee founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in Delhi and became its first president.
Mookerjee went to visit Kashmir in 1953 and was arrested on May 11. He died under detention on June 23, 1953. (ANI)

10 votes registered at BJP district office address, Thrissur LS polls held on fraudulent list, alleges V.S. Sunil Kumar
V.S. Sunil Kumar, former Minister and LDF's 2024 Lok Sabha candidate from Thrissur, has alleged that the last General Elections in the constituency were conducted using a fraudulently prepared voters' list. Speaking to mediapersons in Thrissur on Thursday (August 14, 2025), Mr. Sunil Kumar claimed that 10 votes were registered under the address and number of the BJP Thrissur district committee office. 'In booth no. 42, at the address 'Deendayal Mandiram,' votes were added without even a house number. None of these individuals are permanent residents there,' he said. The CPI leader further alleged that BJP State vice president V. Unnikrishnan, a native of Malappuram, also led efforts to manipulate the voter rolls. 'His vote was registered at the address of the BJP Thrissur district vice president,' Mr. Sunil Kumar said. 'The BJP's victory in Thrissur was achieved through a voter list that was unjustly created,' he said, adding that 'such a mandate cannot stand' and demanded that the Election Commission cancel the electoral rolls. The CPI was continuing scrutiny of the voters' list and would come up with more details on the manipulations, he added.

Using ‘dirty phrases' like ‘vote chori' is an attack on electors, election staff: EC
With the Opposition alleging discrepancies in electoral rolls in the country, and the Congress campaign against 'vote chori', the Election Commission of India said Thursday using such phrases was not only an attack on the electors, but also on the integrity of lakhs of poll workers. In a statement, the poll body said: 'If anyone has any proof of any person actually voting twice in any election, it should be shared with ECI with a written affidavit rather than colouring all the electors of India as 'chor' without any proof'. 'Trying to create a false narrative by using dirty phrases like 'Vote Chori' for our electors, is not only a direct attack on the crores of Indian electors but also an assault on the integrity of lakhs of election staff.' It added that the principle of one person one vote had existed since the first general elections held in 1951-192. The EC's statement comes after Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, on August 7, presented findings of the Congress's study of the electoral rolls of the Mahadevapura Assembly segment of the Bangalore Central Lok Sabha constituency. Giving details of the alleged 'vote chori', Gandhi said at the press conference that over 1 lakh votes had been 'stolen' using duplicate voters, false and invalid addresses, bulk voters in a single address, invalid photos and misuse of the registration form for new electors, the Form 6. In response, the EC termed the allegations misleading and, through the office of the Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer, sought a written affidavit with the details of the allegations. Since then, the Congress and other Opposition parties have made more allegations regarding discrepancies in electoral rolls in other states as well. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), too, has levelled allegations about Gandhi's constituency of Rae Bareli, Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee's Diamond Harbour seat, and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav's Kannauj constituency. At a press conference on Wednesday, BJP MP Anurag Thakur said there were 2.69 lakh doubtful voters in Rae Bareli.
