Otto Lopez had two hits and drove in two runs, and Xavier Edwards singled twice, doubled and had an RBI for the Marlins.
Alcántara (4-8) allowed three runs and six hits, walked two and struck out four. The 2022 NL Cy Young Award winner has completed six innings in three of his last four starts.
Anthony Bender tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of Alcántara, Calvin Faucher got the last two outs in the eighth and Ronny Henriquez pitched the ninth for his second save.

Elder (2-4) allowed five runs and 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings.
The Braves struck quickly against Alcántara on Austin Riley's RBI single in the first.

Braves' $65 Million Superstar Mentioned As Trade Candidate In Recent Report

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Atlanta Braves have been one of the more disappointing teams in baseball this season. They began the year with World Series expectations, but now look like a postseason afterthought. As a result of the struggles, the Braves could turn into aggressive sellers at the trade deadline next month. It's unclear whether general manager Alex Anthopoulos is going to sell, but it might make a lot of sense. Thomas Harrigan recently suggested the Braves could use slugger Marcell Ozuna as a trade chip ahead of the trade deadline. MIAMI, FLORIDA - JUNE 21: Drake Baldwin #30 of the Atlanta Braves celebrates with Marcell Ozuna #20 after hitting a three-run home run against the Miami Marlins during the ninth inning at loanDepot park on... MIAMI, FLORIDA - JUNE 21: Drake Baldwin #30 of the Atlanta Braves celebrates with Marcell Ozuna #20 after hitting a three-run home run against the Miami Marlins during the ninth inning at loanDepot park on June 21, 2025 in Miami, Florida. More"Anthopoulos has made it clear that controllable assets like Sale, who has a 2026 club option, aren't going anywhere," Harrigan wrote. "But if he's forced to reassess the club's Deadline approach, we could see Atlanta trade away its pending free agents. Ozuna is by far the best player on that short list, which also includes relievers Raisel Iglesias and Rafael Montero and outfielder Alex Verdugo. "While Ozuna's power numbers have dropped off in 2025, he's still reaching base at a .379 clip. He's also not far removed from producing 79 homers and a .552 slugging percentage across 2023-24, making him an appealing middle-of-the-order bat for contending teams in need of offensive reinforcements." Trading Ozuna makes more than enough sense for the Braves. With his contract expiring at the end of the year, it seems unlikely the Braves will pay the money to re-sign him. With that in mind, it seems like the rest of the season will be Ozuna's last games with the Braves. Trading him would net the Braves a few solid prospects in return rather than losing him in free agency for nothing. If Atlanta is open to selling, trading Ozuna makes more sense than anything. Coastal Carolina coach says CWS ejection was unwarranted and he was wrongly accused of bumping ump

Associated Press OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Coastal Carolina coach Kevin Schnall, tossed from the game along with first base coach Matt Schilling in the first inning of the College World Series finals Sunday, said his ejection wasn't justified and he was wrongly accused of bumping an umpire. Walker Mitchell was at bat with two outs and Sebastian Alexander had just stolen second base when Schnall went to the top steps of the dugout, gestured at plate umpire Angel Campos with three fingers and began shouting at him. The NCAA said Schnall was arguing balls and strikes, was given a warning and thrown out when he did not leave immediately. Instead, Schnall went onto the field to continue arguing. The Tigers won 5-3 for their second national championship in three years. When Schnall was arguing with Campos, one of the base umpires ran toward the confrontation and fell on his back. 'If you guys watch the video, there was a guy who came in extremely aggressively, tripped over Campos' foot, embarrassed in front of 25,000, and goes 'two-game suspension' and says 'bumping the umpire,' Schnall said. 'There was no bump. I shouldn't be held accountable for a grown man's athleticism. Now it's excessive because I was trying to say I didn't bump him. 'It is what it is. If that warranted an ejection, there would be a lot of ejections. As umpires, it's your job to manage the game with some poise and calmness and a little bit of tolerance.' A spokesman said the NCAA stands by its original statement on the incident when asked for comment on Schnall's remarks about bumping an umpire. The NCAA in its initial statement on the incident said Schnall and Schilling engaged in 'prolonged arguing,' which is to result in a two-game suspension. Schnall would miss the first two games of the 2026 season. Schilling was thrown out for the comments he made while arguing, the NCAA said. If an assistant is ejected, he automatically also is suspended for one game. Schilling also got an additional two-game suspension under the 'prolonged arguing' rule, the NCAA said. That means he will miss the first three games next year. Associate head coach Chad Oxendine took over Schnall's duties. Schnall said he couldn't hear Campos' initial warning when he was arguing balls and strikes from the dugout. 'As a head coach, it's your right to get an explanation for why we got warned,' Schnall said. 'I'm 48 years old and I shouldn't get shooed by another grown man. When I came out, I got told it was a warning issued for arguing balls and strikes, and I said it was because you missed three. At that point, ejected. If that warrants an ejection, I'm the first one to stand here like a man and apologize.' That wasn't going to happen. 'I'm not sorry for what happened,' he said. 'I'm sorry for this being over. I'm sorry for how it ended.' ___ AP college sports: recommended in this topic

Heliot Ramos drives in four runs as Giants rally to beat Red Sox 9-5

Associated Press SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Heliot Ramos doubled home two runs to highlight San Francisco's decisive seventh inning after an earlier two-run single, and the Giants rallied to beat the Boston Red Sox 9-5 on Sunday. Casey Schmitt and Mike Yastrzemski each hit solo home runs in the fifth against Red Sox starter Luis Giolito and Willy Adames connected in the eighth. With Adames and Schmitt each aboard on hits to start the seventh, Tyler Fitzgerald bunted home the tying run to chase reliever Greg Weissert (2-2) and San Francisco went ahead when Red Sox second baseman Romy Gonzalez missed a routine catch on Yastrzemski's liner off Justin Wilson. Rob Refsnyder hit a two-run homer in the fifth and González homered one out later for the Red Sox, then the Giants cleared the fences twice in the bottom half to tie the game at 4. Ceddanne Rafaela homered in the sixth for Boston. After the Red Sox went ahead in the first on a fielding error by Ramos in left field, he delivered with the single in the third. Thousands of fans from the sellout crowd of 40,350 lined up more than three hours before first pitch to receive a Jung Hoo Lee giveaway jersey. Giants lefty Robbie Ray struck out seven and walked one over five innings, allowing three earned runs and eight hits. Erik Miller (4-0) pitched the seventh for the win. Key moment Boston's Jarren Duran and manager Alex Cora were ejected in the eighth after Duran argued a tag call at second base that had been upheld on replay review. Duran singled to right and was out at second on a throw by Yastrzemski to shortstop Adames. Duran, visibly shown swearing, was tossed by second base umpire Doug Eddings as the outfielder walked toward the dugout. He then turned around and tried to approach Eddings before being held back. Cora rushed out to argue and also was ejected. Key stat The Giants improved to a majors-best 15-2 in home day games. They have hit 44 home runs in afternoon contests this year. Up next RHP Walker Buehler (5-5, 5.95 ERA) pitches for Boston in Monday's series opener in Anaheim against the Angels. The Giants have a day off Monday before RHP Justin Verlander (0-4, 4.45) tries again Tuesday for his first victory. ___ AP MLB: recommended
