Walking is one of the simplest ways to achieve effective results in order to stay fit and to boost your overall health. But there are some tips and tricks that should be kept in mind to achieve better results by avoiding errors that can be made by us.
Even today, people make small mistakes that minimize the effect of walking and may not lead them to achieve the desired results. Thus, it may also cause a sense of discomfort in them and may even lead to severe injury as well. From skipping warmup in the morning to taking wide steps, here are the 10 common mistakes that one should avoid in order to get the desired results and benefits from walking.

walking mistakes
that you should avoid
Ignoring warm up and cool down steps
During a walk, skipping your warm-up and cool-down might seem harmless but it is a blunder that can lead to stiffness, reduced performance and even injury.
The fact that warming up helps to increase your heart rate, loosen joints and prepare your muscles for activity. You should do a few minutes of light stretching or slow-paced walking for more benefits. On the other hand, cooling down helps the body to ease back to its resting state, reduces muscle soreness and supports recovery at a fast pace.
Ignoring these steps and jumping on walk or stopping directly may feel time-efficient at first but it can lead to severe results after a long run.

Walking with motionless arms
Walking with motionless arms might seem like a small detail but it can have a huge effect on your walking efficiency and posture. These hand movements control your natural momentum and can affect your body's balance. Swinging arms in a relaxed and controlled motion helps to propel you forward, engages your upper body and supports a smoother and more effective stride. Thus, its another advantage is that it also encourages better posture and burns more calories.
To get desired results from walking, let your arms swing naturally at your sides in rhythm with your steps.
Taking long steps
When we cover long steps, it might feel like we are covering more ground but it can actually affect your walking efficiency and increase the risk of injury. It can put extra strain on your joints especially your knees and hips and can lead to muscle fatigue or a sense of discomfort. It also disrupts your natural rhythm that makes your walk less smooth and more tiring than usual.
Instead, focus on shorter and quicker steps that keep your feet landing beneath your body.
This helps in maintaining a better balance, reduces impact and boosts your overall walking performance.
Regularly focusing downward
Regularly focusing downward while walking can have a negative affect on your posture and balance. Constantly looking at the ground can cause neck and shoulders to hunch forward which can lead to tension, discomfort and even long-term posture problems.
It also limits your awareness of your surroundings and increases the risk of trips or falls. To walk more confidently and comfortably, keep your gaze forward for about 10 to 20 feet ahead with your head up and shoulders at a relaxed position.
This simple adjustment helps to promote a better alignment, improves breathing and helps in maintaining steady and safe steps throughout your walk.
Poor back posture
Poor back posture while walking can lead to discomfort, muscle strain and decreased walking efficiency.
Slouching or rounding your shoulders can lead to unnecessary stress on your spine and muscles which can cause pain in your neck, shoulders and lower back over a period of time. It also affects your balance and breathing by making your walk less effective and you may feel more tiring. To avoid these issues, always aim to keep your back straight, shoulders relaxed and chest open.
Good posture supports better movement, reduces injury risk and helps you get the most out of every step.
Engaging in light walking
Engaging in light walking might feel comfortable but if your pace is too slow then you are not challenging your body enough to gain the full health benefits from the walk. Walking at a very low intensity can limit calorie burn, cardiovascular improvements and muscle strengthening. Though gentle walks are great for relaxation or recovery days but to improve fitness and stamina, it is important to pick up your pace and walk briskly enough to raise your heart rate.
Finding the right intensity helps you make every step count and accelerates progress toward your walking goals.
Skipping proper hydration
Skipping proper hydration during your walks can lead to fatigue, muscle cramps, dizziness and decreased performance. When you are even walking at a slow pace, your body loses fluids through sweat and breathing especially in warm weather. Failing to drink enough water before, during and after your walk can affect your energy levels and may lead to slow recovery.
Staying well-hydrated helps to regulate the body temperature, maintain joint lubrication and keep your muscles working efficiently.
To achieve results from your walking routine you have to make drinking water a regular part of your preparation and cool-down process.
Continuing to walk despite pain
Continuing to walk despite pain can do more harm than good. Ignoring discomfort or injury while walking will affect the problem in a negative way which can lead to longer recovery time or chronic issues.
Pain is your body's way of telling that something is not right, so pushing through it affects damaging muscles, joints or ligaments. It is important to listen to your body and rest when needed. Taking a break or modifying your routine can help to prevent severe injuries and keep you on track for long-term walking success.
Using a mobile device while walking
Using a mobile device while walking can distract you from your surroundings and affect your natural walking rhythm.
Constantly looking at your phone may cause you to walk slower, take shorter or uneven steps and may even lead to losing proper posture. It also increases the risk of trips, falls or collisions with obstacles or other people. Staying focused helps you to maintain good form, improves your safety and allows you to fully enjoy the benefits of your walk.
Try to limit phone use to breaks or stop walking briefly if you need to check messages or navigate.
Wearing inappropriate footwear
Wearing inappropriate footwear can seriously impact your walking experience and can even lead to a sense of discomfort or injury. Shoes that lack proper support, cushioning or fit can cause blisters, foot pain and strain on your joints. Ill-fitting shoes may also affect your walking posture and gait that increases the risk of falls or long-term issues like knee or back pain. To protect your feet and improve your walking performance, choose shoes specifically designed for walking or running with good arch support and a comfortable fit.
The right footwear helps you walk longer, safer and more comfortably.

Linda McMahon begins ‘Returning Education to the States' tour in Louisiana: Where does the state stand on education?

1 2 US Secretary of Education Linda McMahon has set out on a national mission she says will restore decision-making in education to the states. Framed as both a listening exercise and a showcase of local innovation, her 'Returning Education to the States' Tour will span all 50 states, beginning in Louisiana, a state where pockets of progress in literacy are emerging against a backdrop of persistently low overall rankings. Literacy Gains in the Spotlight In Louisiana's capital, McMahon visited Jefferson Terrace Academy, a public Pre-K–8 school, where she joined a literacy roundtable discussion with teachers and administrators. She also toured Great Hearts Harveston, a K–9 charter school, accompanied by State Superintendent Dr. Cade Brumley, Senator Bill Cassidy, and Congresswoman Julia Letlow. She praised Louisiana's improvement in national reading scores, calling the state 'a rare bright spot' and a model for how innovation and student-focused policies can deliver results. A troubling overall education picture of Louisiana While literacy outcomes provide reason for optimism, Louisiana's broader education performance remains one of the weakest in the country. According to the latest Education Week rankings, the state earned a D+, joining seven others below a 'C.' Only New Mexico and Nevada received lower grades. This position is not new. Louisiana has spent decades in the bottom tier despite a long list of reform efforts, including governor-led initiatives on teacher evaluation, expanded charter school access, and the adoption of alternative accountability models. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Knee pain treatment prices might surprise you Knee pain| search ads Find Now Undo Yet, these policies have done little to move the state's standing in national comparisons. The challenges behind the numbers Critics say that past reforms too often targeted teachers as the root cause of underperformance, rather than addressing systemic issues such as funding, resource allocation, and economic disparities. Many argue that the diversion of resources toward private and charter schools has left public schools struggling, while constant changes to testing and evaluation systems have created instability. Louisiana also faces entrenched socioeconomic hurdles—nearly a quarter of high school students do not graduate, the state ranks 49th in the percentage of college graduates, and education funding has remained largely stagnant over the past decade. These conditions compound the difficulty of delivering consistent academic progress. Areas of Improvement and next steps There have been recent positive developments. Investments in early childhood education are increasing, and teacher preparation now includes yearlong internships for those in traditional education programmes. However, these reforms remain limited in scope and are slow to produce measurable results. Education experts suggest that Louisiana must look to high-performing states, which consistently pair academic achievement with strong economies, robust per-pupil spending, early learning access, and high rates of college participation. Addressing community-wide economic challenges, they say, is just as important as classroom reform. Will the tour drive real change? McMahon's tour is designed to gather and share best practices from across the country, but whether it leads to a genuine shift in education governance remains to be seen. For Louisiana, the challenge is turning its literacy momentum into a comprehensive strategy that lifts performance across the board. The first stop on this national journey may have celebrated a win, but the broader test lies in whether federal attention and state innovation can converge to move Louisiana out of the nation's bottom ranks—and keep it climbing. Raj HC nullifies marriage aswife hid her schizophrenia

Jaipur: The Rajasthan High Court has annulled a marriage on the grounds that the wife concealed her serious mental illness at the time of marriage. Soon after their marriage, the man discovered that his wife was suffering from schizophrenia, a crucial fact that was hidden from him. The man from Chittorgarh and the woman from Kota married on April 29, 2013. Shortly after their marriage, the man noticed alarming changes in his wife's behaviour. He argued in court that she exhibited strange and unacceptable conduct, along with physical symptoms such as trembling hands. The in-laws claimed finding a prescription in her belongings indicating that the woman had been undergoing medical treatment. "The husband believed the illness made consummation of the marriage impossible and that the fact was deliberately concealed by the woman's family," said Uma Shankar Acharya, the husband's counsel. As tensions between both families grew, the woman's parents took her back home. The man then sought to have the marriage declared void under Section 12 of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955. When a family court in Kota dismissed his application on Aug 28, 2019, he appealed to the high court. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like They Were So Beautiful Before; Now Look At Them; Number 10 Will Shock You Reportingly Undo During the family court proceedings, the woman denied having any serious mental illness and asserted she only experienced temporary depression due to a family accident shortly before the marriage. She alleged her husband and in-laws demanded dowry and harassed her. After reviewing witness statements, medical records and other evidence, the high court's division bench, comprising justices Inderjeet Singh and Anand Sharma, concluded that the woman had schizophrenia prior to the marriage and was on medication. The bench deemed this a "material fact" essential for marriage and its concealment constituted legal fraud under Section 12(1)(c) of the Hindu Marriage Act. The judges stressed that schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder that can significantly impact married life. Citing previous Supreme Court rulings, they affirmed that such an illness directly affects marital rights. Ultimately, on July 31, the high court declared the marriage void from its inception, freeing the man from all associated criminal charges and financial obligations, including maintenance and dowry harassment cases. Fire safety: Centre asks city hospitals to follow regulations

Chandigarh: Terming fire safety in hospitals and nursing homes in Chandigarh as a matter of the "utmost importance," director general of fire services, ministry of home affairs, GoI, wrote a letter to the UT chief secretary, calling for fire safety audits and inspection of all govt and private hospitals as well as nursing homes. An action taken report (ATR) is to be submitted within 60 days. The chief secretary has forwarded the directives to the MC, which deals with fire safety and related aspects. The development is crucial for Chandigarh, where several hospitals have received notices for failing to comply with fire safety norms laid down by the municipal corporation. Although the civic body conducts fire audits from time to time, many prominent buildings in the city have not obtained the fire safety NoCs till date. The letter from the director general of fire services to the chief secretary reads, "Fire safety in hospitals and nursing homes is a matter of utmost importance, given the critical nature of these institutions. Any fire-related incident on such premises can lead to tragic consequences, including loss of lives and disruption of essential health services. In this regard, this directorate has issued multiple advisories and communications highlighting the need for urgent attention towards this issue. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like I Lost My Passport in Rome.
