Encounter underway near LoC after infiltration bid in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch
The encounter began late Tuesday night in the Kalsian-Gulpur area of the Degwar sector, after troops of the Indian army intercepted a group of two to three terrorists attempting to infiltrate from across the border.
During the exchange of fire, two terrorists are believed to have been neutralised, but their condition whether dead or injured was not immediately clear. The official confirmation on the development is awaited as the operation is still in progress.
The Indian army's White Knight Corps also confirmed the development in a post on social media platform X: '#WhiteKnightCorps Contact with #Terrorists Suspected movement of two individuals was observed by own troops along the fence in gen area of #Poonch Sector. Gunfire exchanged. Operation under progress.'

Satna suicide case: Youth held for abetment; ex-MLA's wife booked for negligence
BHOPAL: Four days after a 24-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide using a licensed pistol at the residence of former Congress MLA Nilanshu Chaturvedi in Satna, police arrested a youth from Banda district in Uttar Pradesh for abetment to suicide. Police also booked the former MLA's wife, Archana Sharma, under relevant sections of the Arms Act for mishandling a licensed weapon—the pistol, which was registered in her name, was used in the suicide. The arrested youth, Arvind Yadav, was reportedly in a relationship with the deceased, Suman Nishad. Suman, who worked as domestic help along with her mother at Chaturvedi's house, allegedly shot herself in the right temple with the licensed firearm on July 29. The pistol belonged to Archana Sharma, who has now been booked under the Arms Act for negligence in storing the weapon. According to police, Suman and Arvind were in a relationship. Her family recently arranged her marriage to someone else, which reportedly caused tension. Investigators said Arvind gifted her a mobile phone, which was earlier found by her family, leading to frequent arguments. Chhattisgarh court grants bail to Kerala nuns in trafficking, conversion case
Raipur: A special court in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district on Saturday granted bail to three people, including two Catholic nuns from Kerala, who were arrested on charges of human trafficking and forced religious conversion. The court granted conditional bail, including a directive that the accused surrender their passports and not leave the country. (PTI) The three—Sisters Preethi Merry and Vandana Francis from Kerala, and Sukaman Mandavi—were arrested by Government Railway Police (GRP) at Durg railway station on July 25, following a complaint filed by a local Bajrang Dal member. The court granted conditional bail, including a directive that the accused surrender their passports and not leave the country. Defence lawyer Amrito Das said the court granted bail on the condition that each accused furnish a bond of ₹50,000 with two sureties, cooperate in the investigation, surrender their passports, and not travel abroad. While there were additional conditions, the final detailed order was still awaited, he said. Das added that the prosecution had not sought custody of the accused for further interrogation and that the girls in question were sent home. Principal district and sessions judge (NIA court) Sirajuddin Qureshi had reserved the order on Friday after hearing their bail pleas. The complaint alleged that the trio was involved in forcibly converting three young women from Narayanpur and trafficking them. The arrest has triggered a major uproar, with opposition parties including the Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist), or CPI(M), condemning the action and alleging religious targeting. The delegation said it had also approached the union home minister and written to the Prime Minister regarding the case. Meanwhile, 21-year-old Kamleshwari Pradhan—one of the three women allegedly trafficked—accused Bajrang Dal activists of coercing her into giving a false statement against the nuns. She also alleged that police failed to properly document her version of events and said her family has been practising Christianity for the past four to five years. The three women approached the Narayanpur district police superintendent's office on Saturday to file an FIR against Bajrang Dal members.
