GTA 6 map:India has taken a major leap in the global gaming landscape with its role in building a central part of Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), one of the most anticipated video games in development. While fans around the world await its release, a team of developers in India is shaping a major in-game location, signalling a shift in how large-scale titles are developed across borders.
Rockstar India, based in Bengaluru, has taken charge of creating an entire city within GTA 6 called 'Vice Beach'. This location will be part of the core map that players will explore once the game goes live. This assignment is not a supporting task. Instead, it involves leading the design and construction of a major urban area in the biggest gaming world.

Among the nearly 6,000 developers contributing to GTA 6 worldwide, around 1,615 are from India. This makes Rockstar India the largest single contributor by headcount across Rockstar's studios globally. In comparison, Rockstar's offices in the United Kingdom collectively have over 2,600 developers, while those in the United States add more than 1,400. However, India's responsibility stands out not because of numbers, but because of the scale of the project assigned.

Perplexity makes longshot $34.5 billion offer for Chrome

Artificial-intelligence startup Perplexity on Tuesday offered to purchase Google's Chrome browser for $34.5 billion as it works to challenge the tech giant's web-search dominance. Perplexity's offer is significantly more than its own valuation, which is estimated at $18 billion. The company told The Wall Street Journal that several investors including large venture-capital funds had agreed to back the transaction in full. Estimates of Chrome's enterprise value vary widely but recent ones have ranged from $20 billion to $50 billion. U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta is weighing whether to force Google to sell the browser as a means of weakening Google's stranglehold on web search. Mehta last year ruled that Google illegally monopolized the search market and is expected to rule this month on how to restore competition. The Perplexity offer could be an attempt to signal to the judge that there is an interested buyer, should he force a sale. In a letter to Sundar Pichai, chief executive of Google parent Alphabet, Perplexity said its offer to buy Chrome is 'designed to satisfy an antitrust remedy in highest public interest by placing Chrome with a capable, independent operator." Google hasn't indicated a willingness to sell Chrome. In testimony this year, Pichai told the judge that forcing the company to sell it or share data with rivals would harm Google's business, deter it from investing in new technology and potentially create security risks. Chrome has roughly 3.5 billion users worldwide and accounts for more than 60% of the global browser market. Founded in 2022, San Francisco-based Perplexity recently released its own web browser, called Comet, to some of its users. Two subsidiaries of News Corp, parent of the Journal, have sued Perplexity. Perplexity told Pichai that, as part of the proposed acquisition, it would maintain and support Chromium, the open-source project that supports Chrome and other browsers. It also said that it would continue placing Google as the default search engine within Chrome, though users could change settings. The Justice Department filed the antitrust case against Google in 2020. In addition to forcing a sale of Chrome, the judge is considering limiting Google's ability to pay to be the default search engine on devices and browsers and requiring it to share data with rivals, among other things. In weighing potential remedies earlier this year, Mehta questioned how much new AI chatbots might be whittling away at the traditional search business, of which Google has 90% market share. Google has proposed a narrower set of remedies that would modify its exclusive agreements with Apple, as well as Mozilla and Android, to allow for more competition. It has said it will appeal the judge's ruling. Analysts say the judge is unlikely to force the company to sell Chrome, though he gave little indication of which way he was leaning. During closing arguments earlier this year, he asked whether doing so would be 'a little cleaner and a little bit more elegant" than other remedies aimed at improving search competition.

How Fortnite maker Epic Games scored partial victory against Apple, Google in Australia

An Australian federal court has ruled that Apple and Google 's app stores are uncompetitive, handing a partial victory for Epic Games that develops Fortnite game. The ruling is part of a long-running global legal dispute where Epic has accused the tech giants of anti-competitive behaviour. This comes a week after a US court rejected Google's appeal in the antitrust lawsuit brought by Epic Games, a decision that affirms Google's Play Store and payment systems are illegal monopolies. According to news agency Reuters, In Australia, Epic Games specifically argued that the app stores' fees for game downloads were too high and that the companies prevented users from downloading alternative app stores. The Australian court found that the app stores had no protections against anti-competitive behaviour. However, the judge's summary also noted that the smartphone makers had not intentionally broken the law. It's a win for developers, says Epic Games In a post on X, Epic Games celebrated the decision by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo 'The Epic Games Store and Fortnite will come to iOS in Australia! Apple said it 'strongly disagreed' with parts of the court's decision, adding that it 'faces fierce competition in every market.' Google welcomed the rejection of some of Epic's claims but disagreed with the court's characterization of its billing policies, stating it would review the full decision before deciding on its next steps. Meanwhile, a ruling in the US court will force Google to make changes to its Android ecosystem within the next three years. The company is now required to distribute rival app stores through its own Google Play Store and provide competitors with access to its complete app catalog. Additionally, Google is barred from forcing developers to use its own billing system and from entering into revenue-sharing agreements to pre-install its store on devices. In response to the 'total victory,' Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney announced that the Epic Games Store for Android will launch directly within the Google Play Store. Bill Gates sceptical on electric trucks; Musk says Tesla Semi coming in 2026

Electric heavy-duty trucks have been a topic of debate among industry leaders for years. While Microsoft founder Bill Gates has expressed skepticism about the practicality of fully electric 18-wheelers, Elon Musk , CEO of Tesla Inc., remains confident in their future. 'Tesla Semi is not just feasible, it's the future of trucking,' Musk has said, affirming that his company's all-electric Semi truck will hit volume production next year. His bold claim comes amid growing global interest in electrifying freight transportation to cut emissions and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. As Tesla gears up to ramp production in 2026, industry watchers are eager to see whether the Semi can deliver on its promises and truly compete with traditional diesel trucks. Bill Gates' skepticism on electric 18-wheelers Bill Gates has consistently argued that fully electric 18-wheelers face fundamental limitations, focusing on the technical challenge of batteries for heavy-duty long-haul trucks. He has stated that the high energy density required to move large payloads over long distances with batteries results in trucks carrying more battery weight, which in turn reduces their efficiency and practicality. Gates believes this makes electrification particularly tough for heavy freight, cargo ships, and passenger jets. Even with ongoing progress in battery technology, Gates maintains that batteries alone are unlikely to solve the unique needs of long-haul, heavy trucking, and has suggested that alternatives like hydrogen fuel cells or synthetic electrofuels may be more practical for these larger, energy-intensive applications. He's also noted that these synthetic fuels could be used in existing engines, minimizing the need for wholesale changes in infrastructure. Elon Musk's vision for Tesla Semi Elon Musk, meanwhile, has reaffirmed that Tesla's all-electric Semi truck will begin volume production in 2026. The company has constructed a dedicated production facility near Gigafactory Nevada with an expected annual output of 50,000 units when fully ramped. While actual output in the first year may be lower, Tesla's leadership, including Dan Priestley, head of the Semi program, has publicly shared that the company is preparing for full-scale manufacturing to start in 2026. Tesla's Semi, since its unveiling in 2017, has promised a range of 500 miles per charge, top-tier acceleration and torque, and a gross vehicle weight comparable to that of traditional diesel trucks. Tesla's strategy goes beyond the US: the company has signaled intentions to expand the Semi's market into Europe, where stricter emissions regulations and dense logistics routes present both challenges and opportunities. In addition, Tesla continues to invest in its Megacharger high-speed charging network designed to address heavy-duty fleets specifically. Tesla's expanding electric vehicle lineup Tesla is not only pushing into the heavy-duty sector. The Cybertruck, a full-size electric pickup, officially launched production at Gigafactory Texas in late 2023, with three drivetrain variants now on the US and Canadian markets. Reports also point to Tesla exploring a smaller electric pickup and an autonomous 'Cyber Cab,' specifically aimed at the ride-hailing segment, reinforcing its aim to diversify its electric portfolio further into transportation classes previously dominated by internal combustion. Challenges ahead for electric freight trucks The main challenges for electric heavy-duty trucks include the need for a robust high-capacity charging infrastructure and sufficient grid capacity, as current networks cannot always support the rapid, high-power charging required for long-haul fleets. Heavy batteries add significant weight, reducing payload capacity and fleet profitability, while also limiting range compared to diesel or hydrogen alternatives. High upfront costs, slower charging times, and limited range, often between 100 to 300 miles for most models, affect operational efficiency. Additionally, sourcing affordable, renewable electricity is still a hurdle, and while hydrogen fuel cell trucks offer lighter weight and faster refueling, they face infrastructure gaps and higher production costs. The road ahead for Tesla Semi Truck The positive momentum behind electric heavy-duty trucks is clear, with thousands of units already deployed in regional routes and last-mile logistics in 2024 and 2025, spurred by lower battery costs, new product launches, and increasingly favorable policy and regulatory landscapes. But for truly widespread, long-range electrification, especially in the heavy-duty, long-haul segment, substantial challenges remain. As both startups and legacy manufacturers invest in solutions, options like hydrogen and advanced synthetic fuels will likely complement batteries, especially for the most demanding trucking applications.
